Mack Hardtner Lutrick, 67, of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, July 25, 2016, in Jena. He was born Wednesday, March 2, 1949 in Jena, to the union of Curtis and Clara Partin Lutrick. Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 28, in the Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Daryl Floyd and Gary Wagoner officiating. Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vernon Lutrick, Curtis “Pete” Lutrick, Jr., James Lutrick, John “Tencie” Lutrick, Earl Lutrick and Albert Lutrick; and sisters, Mary Beavers Thornton and Ruth Beavers Banandi. Survivors include five sisters, Emma Lee Sharp, Illa Mae Cox, Ena Ewing, Margaret Lambert and husband Whitney and Rosemary Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Clint Malcomb, John Cox, Raymond Sharp, Timmy Lutrick, Jack Powell, and Dewayne Ewing.

Cal H. McClary

Cal H. McClary, 39, of Kelly, passed from this life on Friday, July 29, 2016, at the Hardtner Medical Center in Urania following an extended illness. He was born October 6, 1976 in Columbia to the union of his parents, Russell William McClary and Brenda Kay Nugent McClary. Cal served in the United States Marines, having served during Desert Storm in Iraq. He was a member of Kelly Baptist Church. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 31, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Olla with the Revs. Shane Duke, Joe Agulard and Greg Dunn officiating. Interment with full military honors followed in the Beech Creek Cemetery, west of Olla, under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. He was preceded in death by his mother. Survivors include his wife, Crissy Moore Mc-Clary of Kelly; his father, Brother Russell Mc-Clary of Olla; his brother, Gary McClary and wife Kristine of Palisades, TX; his sister, April Cotten and husband David of Olla; and his nieces and nephews, Chelsey Cotten, Clay Cotten, Drew McClary, Kyla McClary, Grayson McClary, and Lauren McClary. Pallbearers were Brad McClary, Jeff McClary, Eddie Emig, Bryan Nugent, Damian Moore and Shaun Moore, with Jason Moore serving as an honorary pallbearer. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Sherron Agnes Harris, 81, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Monday, July 25, 2016 in Jonesville. She was born Friday, June 28, 1935 in Wallace Ridge to the union of her parents, Newt and Loberta Chapman Montpelier. Services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, in the Heard Cemetery of Manifest. Interment followed under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville “Bobby” Harris; two daughters, Donna Clara Harris and Dwanna Sikes; a brother, Gerald Montpelier; and a sister, Louellen Parish. Survivors include one son, Earl Dwayne Harris and wife Elizabeth Ann of Jonesville; one daughter, Dorma Tarver of Monterey; one sister, Glenda White of Gulfport, MS; two brothers, Hinson Montpelier of Jonesville and Larry Montpelier of Vicksburg, MS; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Muriel W. Norris

Muriel Williams Norris, 90, of Pineville, passed from this life on Monday, July 25, 2016, at her residence. She was born June 13, 1926. Mrs. Norris was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and The Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. She was a teacher for 25-plus years, teaching elementary school for East Baton Rouge, Rapides and Grant Parishes. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend that was dearly loved and will be remembered by all that knew her. Mrs. Norris was the widow of the late Rev. Jesse Norris, who preached more than a half-century, including many, many revivals in this area. They were married for 60 years before his death. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 29, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Pineville with the Revs. Jimmy Robertson, Jim Thomasee, Peter Hutchinson, and Danny Greig officiating. Graveside services followed at the Aimoch Cemetery near Summerville with Rev. Gary Norris officiating. Burial was under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Pineville. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Roy and Nina Williams; son, James Norris; and sister, LaVerne Grimes. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Spencer and husband Jerry and Charlene Norris; grandchildren, Wesley Robertson and wife Lori, and Rebecca Seymour and husband Eric; great grandchildren, Paige and Garrett Robertson; sister, Myra White; and a host of other family members and friends. Pallbearers were Wesley Robertson, Don Ottinger, Jimmy White, Ray Boone, and Craig Hamilton. Rickie Donald Wilson, Sr., 66, of Columbia, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Grace Home in Alexandria. He was born September 13, 1949 in Monroe to the union of his parents, James Huey Wilson and Mary Cathlene Boyette Wilson. Rickie worked in the telecommunications industry. He served proudly with the US Army. Music was a huge influence and love in his life and he played several instruments, especially the guitar. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 30, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia. Interment followed in the Westbrooks-Swilley Cemetery at Aimwell under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Patrick Monet Wilson. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Patricia Louise Wilson; two sons, Richard Allen Wilson and wife, Amanda and Rickie Donald Wilson, Jr, all of Beaver Dam, KY; five daughters, Lilly Wilson of Columbia, Brandi Jones and husband Brantley Hayes of Bremerton, WA, Kim Rivera and husband LeeRoy of Odessa, TX, Edrinn Smith of Bowling Green, KY and Stacy Alley and husband Josh of Bowling Green, KY; three brothers, Garry Wilson and wife Barbara of Columbia, Killis Ray Nappier of Grayson and David Bruce Nappier and wife Debra of Haile; sister, Cynthia Doan of West Monroe; twenty-two grandchildren, Lyrick Monet Binkley, Bradley Jones, Samuel Tate Jones, William Nicholas Jones, Hailey Jones, Cloe Rivera, Reece Rivera, Brady Wilson, Brandon Smith, Jessica Lawson, Keylee Wilson, Gabby Wilson, Andi Wilson, Edy Wilson, Madie Wilson, Bryce Wilson, Destiny Wilson, Micaela Carling Keys, Konnor Martin, Justice Alley, Dylan Alley, and Gracen Alley; six great-grandchildren and one expected February 2017; his best friends, Joe Burroughs, Gary Blackwell and Trippy Nix, along with his many music friends which became his extended music family and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers were Richard Wilson, Rickie Wilson, Jr., William N. Jones, Lucas Nappier, Mike Boyette and Duke Medaries. Honorary pallbearers were Jeremy Korn, Matthew Pipes, Ricky Garsee and Timmy Nappier.

Louis Daniel Otwell, 69, of Fayetteville, NC, passed from this life on Friday, July 22, 2016. He was born January 17, 1947 in Jena to the union of his parents, Willie Burl and Norma Nugent Otwell. Louis was a truck driver. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, in the Taylor’s Chapel Cemetery at Summerville with Rev. Reid Terry officiating. Interment followed under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include five brothers, Wesley Otwell and Billy Otwell, both of Belah, Ben Otwell and Ricky Otwell, both of Jonesville, and Tom Otwell of Amity, AR; and two sisters, Janice Raulston of Pellcity, AL and Beth Wiggins of Jonesville. His brothers served as pallbearers.

John Leslie Butler

John Leslie Butler, 65, of Jena, entered eternal rest on Monday, August 1, 2016, at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. John was a veteran of the United States Marines. He worked in the oilfields of East Texas and was also a carpenter. He was a member of Jena Church of Christ. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, at Jena Church of Christ with Rev. John Barker officiating. Interment will follow in the Belah Cemetery under direction of Gallagher Funeral Home of Ball. Survivors include his son, Adam S. Butler of Olla; three brothers, Wayne Butler of Jena, Edwin L. Butler of Udall, KS, and Parvin W. Butler and wife Norma Jean of Newton, TX; one sister, Betty Westbrook and husband John F. of Jena; one aunt, Joyce Thompson of Jena; and two granddaughters, Kailey Butler and Bella Butler of Olla.

Margaret Ann Peel, 73, of Olla, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016. She was born Thursday, November 19, 1942 in Oakdale, to the union of her parents, Orval A. and Orelia Bryant Garrett. Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 9, in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, with Rev. Clark Palmer, officiating. Interment followed in the Bethel Cemetery near Colfax under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Survivors include her son, Michael Moss of Urania; grandsons, Michael Glen Moss, and James Moss, both of Austin, TX, Robert Moss of Olla, and Tony Moss of Oak Harbor, WA; and four great grandchildren.

Bradford ‘Brad’ Bates

Bradford “Brad” Keith Bates, 54, of Olla, passed from this life into his eternal home on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Savannah Grand in West Monroe following an extended illness. He was born in Lake Charles on March 8, 1962, to the union of Wayne Lamar Bates and Patsy Ruth Bradford Bates. A 1981 graduate of Jena High School, Brad continued his education at Northwestern State University where he received a Bachelor of Music in 1985, a Masters of Art in Student Personnel in 1988, and finally a Masters of Divinity in Christian Education at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1995. Nothing surpassed Brad’s love for the Lord and Christian music. He has performed piano all over the United States including as a member of the travel team for Centrifuge where he also taught classes. Brad’s walk with the Lord  also brought him to New York, French West India, and Martinique on mission trips. As a member of Olla First Baptist Church he served many years as the pianist. Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 8, at the First Baptist Church in Olla with Revs. Milton Wilson, Greg Dunn and Terry Townsend officating. Interment followed at the Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. Survivors include his parents, Wayne and Patsy Bates; brothers, Patrick Bates and wife Cheryl, and Craig Bates; sister, Rona Barbo and husband Steve; nephews, Morgan Slater Barbo, Britton Kyle Barbo, and Nathan Kyle Bates; niece, Madison Nicole Bates, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Pallbearers were Darrel Black, Troy Black, Brett Bennett, Chad Champlin, Morgan Barbo, and Eddie Stewart. Honorary pallbearers were Britton Barbo and Nathan Bates. Melba D. Humphrey

Melba Darlene Humphrey, 62, of Mooringsport, and a native of Jena, passed away August 1, 2016. She was born February 27, 1954 in Jena, and graduated from Jena High School in 1972. Melba had lived in Mooringsport for the past ten years after moving from Oil City. She was a member of Fresh Oil Worship Center in Oil City. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge. For 18 years, she taught school at Vivian Elementary School, and for five years at North Highlands School, and before that, she was a teacher’s aide for five years. Melba loved reading and working at the church with the youth. She was a loving mom, grand mom and great grand mom, and loved spending time with her family. She was a person who never met a stranger, and would be friends with anyone she met. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, August 5, at Fresh Oil Worship Center in Oil City, officiated by Rev. Ronald Wayne Dunn. Interment followed at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Oil City, under direction of Vivian Funeral Home of Vivian. She was preceded in death by her father, W.R. “Dub” Entrekin; her step-mother, Cindy Entrekin; her maternal grandparents, Belle and Frank Jeter; and her paternal grandparents, Ineta and Andrew Entrekin. Survivors include her two daughters, Tamisa Jackson and husband Mousey, and Donean Holland, all of Mooringsport; her mother Jessie Louis Herrington of Philadelphia, MS; her siblings, Douglas Entrekin and wife Carol of Marrero, Ricky Entrekin and wife Linda of Oil City, LA, Beth Bozeman and husband Mark of Philadelphia, MS, Phillip Entrekin of Shreveport; four grandchildren, Mikey Jackson and wife Lauren, Woody Jackson and fiancé Blair Taylor, Matt Tubbs, and Nick Tubbs, and three great grandchildren; Blakeslee, Kaydence, and Lillian, and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Pallbearers were Mikey Jackson, Matt Tubbs, Kevin Jones, Phillip Entrekin, Ricky Entrekin, and Woody Jackson. Honorary pallbearers were Douglas Entrekin and Nick Tubbs.

Iris McMillin Seyfert

Iris Odell McMillin Seyfert, 92, of Port Allen, and formerly of Jena, passed away peacefully at home after a short battle with cancer. Originally from Manifest, Iris spent many years in Jena raising her family. She moved to Houston, TX for a short time, then to St. Francisville, and then to Port Allen. She was born May 7, 1924 at Manifest to the union of her parents, Luther and Ruth McMillin. Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with Rev. Terry Doughty officating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Rhinehart under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Walter W. Seyfert; son, Walter W. Seyfert, Jr.; grandson, Jonathan Logan Book; and brother, James Shelton McMillin. Survivors include one son, Donald L. Seyfert and wife Laurie of Friendswood, TX; two daughters, Valarie Dietrich and husband Richard of Port Allen, and Leesa Widajewski and husband Gary of St. Francisville; six grandchildren, Lance Roark and wife Melissa, Renee Evans and husband Jason, Matthew Book and wife Amy, Adam Book, Alecia Acevedo and husband Jason, and Sean Seyfert and wife Darcy; nine great grandchildren; and three sisters, Dorothea Drum, La- Verne Watkins, and Verda Reeves. She was born Sunday, March 6, 1938 in Poole Bend, Louisiana, to the union of Welby and Gholda Randall Poole. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 12 in the Cornerstone Apostolic Church in the Aimoch Community with Rev. Daryl Floyd officiating. Interment followed in the Old Siloam Cemetery at Aimwell under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burl Ashley; her parents; and four brothers, Dan Poole, Joel Poole, Aaron Poole, and Olan Poole. Survivors include three sons, Coye Ashley and wife Sherri of Hornbeck, Ricky Ashley and wife Donna of Olla, and Jonathan Ashley and wife Rachel of Olla; two brothers, Norris Poole and wife Geneva and Randy Poole and wife Dianne; three sisters, Juanice Poole and husband Bill, Weda Andrews and husband Larry, and Theda McClure and husband Steve; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Interment will follow in the Woodland Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Linda Kay Freeman Hardy of Jena; his son, James David Hardy and wife Stacy Yvette of Pineville; a daughter, Rebecca Ann Verzwyvelt and husband Vincent of Pineville; brothers, Robert L. Hardy and wife Pam of Dry Prong, George C. Hardy and wife Iris of Jonesville and John D. Bishop Norris Poole

Bishop Norris K. Poole, 83, of Winnsboro, passed from this life on Friday, August 12, 2016, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria following an extended illness. He was born June 23, 1933 at Wallace Ridge to the union of his parents, Welby J. and Gholda Randall Poole. Bishop Poole was a resident of Winnsboro, and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was in the ministry for over 46 years, serving as pastor at Gum Point Pentecostal Church near Crowley, Rosen Creek Pentecostal Church of Harrisonburg, Wallace Ridge Pentecostal Church of Jonesville; and at the time of his death was serving as Bishop and Senior Pastor at Wayside Pentecostal Church of Winnsboro. A ceremony celebrating his life was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 14, at New Life Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Tommy Cotten, David Poole, Allan Hatten and Charlie Curry officiating. Graveside services were at noon on Monday, Aug. 15, at Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery under direction of Gill First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Olan, Aaron, Loretta, Joel and Dan. Survivors include his wife, Geneva J. Poole; daughter, Sonja Cotten and husband Rev. Tommy Cotten; son, Mark Poole and wife Charlotte; sisters, Theda McClure, Weda Andrews and Juanice Poole; brother, Randy Poole; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.  Pallbearers were Jason Ashley, Joey Andrews, Bradall McClure, Joey Myers, Dan Mc-Clure and Philip Andrews. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her son, Rodney Taylor, and by her grandson, Brandon Taylor. Survivors include her son, John Stott (Kim); her daughters, Tena Taylor Smith (Curtis), Vanessa Taylor Meziel (Jack), and Debra Owings and (Dave); step-daughter, Louise Exline (Connie Mac); her brother, Jim Fish (Francis); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Tasha was a junior at Jena High School where she was loved by each one of her classmates. She was a member of New Evergreen Baptist Church of Jena. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 20, in the auditorium at Jena High School. Interment will follow in Webster Cemetery of Good Pine under direction of Gayden Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include her father, Maurice Hunter; her mother, Jackie Walker; and four sisters, Dominique, Shatoya, Shante and Denikwa Walker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pearl Culp; son, Willie Phillip Culp; daughter, Eva Lou Culp; her parents; and a brother, John Paul. He was born October 10, 1942 in the Old River Community to the union of his parents, Clarence Kuhn, Sr. and Mary Grace Pritchard Kuhn. Alden worked as a rough neck in the oilfield and raised hogs. He was a Mason and member of Michael Dempsey Lodge No. 327 F&AM. Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Survivors include two sons, Gene Kuhn of Huntsville, TX and Vernon Edwin Kuhn of Jena; brother, Clarence “Dutch” Kuhn, Jr. of Whitehall; sister, Jo Ann Wheat and husband Melton of Whitehall and grandchildren, Kenslee Kuhn, Helana Kuhn, Kaley Grace Whatley, Eden Kuhn and Connor Blade Young. Pallbearers were Red Carter (Harold), Jackie Morris, Jr., Jess Whatley, Ben Whatley, Doyle Pritchard and Joe Mark Tarpley. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Flaherty, J. G. Breithaupt and Jerry Lloyd.

Aleana McKeithen Calhoun, 84, of West Columbia, Texas, entered eternal rest on Sunday, August 14, 2016, at Country Village Nursing Home in Angleton, TX. She was born Monday, November 2, 1931 in Urania to the union of her parents, Armond Guy McKeithen and Mallie Althea Kees McKeithen. Aleana was a member of the Gulf Coast Christian Center in West Columbia, TX. She and her husband, Ronald, celebrated their golden (50th) wedding anniversary on May 22, 2016. A memorial service will be held at the Gulf Coast Christian Center at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Aug. 25, with Pastor Bob Hankins officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at the Pine Hill Baptist Church Cemetery near Olla at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 27, with Rev. Dominick DiCarlo officiating. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Margaret Embrey and Roberta Chandler. Survivors include her husband, Ronald Calhoun of West Columbia, TX; one daughter, Diane Kracker and husband Denis of Houston, TX; three sons, Leon Nugent, Jr. and wife Dianne, and Kenneth Nugent and wife Charlotte, all of Angleton, TX and Roger Nugent and wife Toni of Lumberton, TX; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; one brother, David McKeithen of Jena; one sister, Evaleana Coleman of Jena; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Rubin R. Nugent

Rubin Randolph Nugent, 71, of Georgetown, passed from this life on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. He was born May 25, 1945 in Clarks to the union of his parents, Homer and Ethel Douglas Nugent. Rubin was employed for many years by Belden Wire of Jena and was a United States Army veteran, having served one tour of duty in Vietnam. Services were at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the Georgetown Baptist Church in Georgetown with the Rev. Carl Griffith and Bro. Thurman Beavers officiating. Interment followed in the Lincecum Cemetery of Pollock with full military honors, directed by Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vicky Carol Henderson Nugent; his parents; brothers, Ottis Nugent, Tweety Nugent, Lindel Nugent, and Bud Nugent; and sister, Olean Grice. Survivors include two sons, Eric Nugent, and Derek Nugent and wife Lacey, all of Georgetown; daughter, Kimberly Nugent Black and husband Todd; brother, John Rodney “Earl” Nugent of Georgetown; and six grandchildren, Zachary Black, Dalton Provence, Alexis Nugent, Adreana Nugent, Analise Nugent, and Laney Kate Nugent.
