Wilhemina “Mena” Zeagler Poole, 79, of Jena, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, in Jena. She was born December 6, 1936 in Catahoula parish to the union of her parents, Coleman Zeagler and Lucy Cockerham Zeagler. Mrs. Mena was a member of East Jena Baptist Church in Jena. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 15, at East Jena Baptist Church with the Revs. Ronnie Tarver and Gary Norris officiating. Interment followed in the Squires Cemetery near Summerville under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Poole, her parents; daughter, Deborah Poole; son Randy Poole, six sisters and three brothers. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Dunaway and husband Joe of Tunica, MS; six grandchildren, Joseph Dunaway and wife Jaime of Memphis, TN, Jacob Dunaway and wife Heather of Aspen, CO, Erin Dunaway of Tunica, MS, Amanda Poole and Haley Poole, both of Jena, and April Mixon and husband Jim of Crowley; nine great grandchildren, Sophie Moryer, Duncan Dunaway, Adelae Dunaway, Riley Bond, Cameron Bond, Samuel Bond, Denton Taylor, Tripp Mixon, Matthew Mixon; one sister, Avis Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, and loving friends. Pallbearers were Joseph Dunaway, Jacob Dunaway, Russell Poole, Kevin Doughty, Stacy Smith and Tracy Smith. Honorary Pallbearers were Charles Ed Doughty, Butch Ford, Dick Zeagler, Wayne Lemaster, Denton Taylor, Riley Bond, Joe Dunaway, Barry Poole and Terry Poole.

Bobby Ray Martin

Bobby Ray Martin, 74, of West Monroe, and formerly of the Whitehall Community, passed from this life on Friday, July 15, 2016. Bobby was raised in Newellton. He served in the United States Army and was a retired offshore toolpusher. He was a member of Cedar Crest Baptist Church and a former member of Ferriday First Baptist Church. Bobby was an avid golfer and former member of Panola Woods Country Club, as well as the LaSalle Golf Country Club. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, July 17, in the chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe with the Revs. Greg Clark and Rev. Don Privett officiating. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Lena Martin; father and mother-in-law, LeRoy and Lorene Campbell; brothers, Teddy Martin and Leymoine Martin; sisters, Lesterea Massey, Dimple Flowers, and Pauline Redd. Survivors include his wife, Susan Campbell Martin, the love of his life for 40 years, whom he married on March 9, 1976; daughter, Jennifer Martin Phillips and husband Trey; grandsons, Martin Gage Breithaupt and Paul Mason Phillips; granddaughters, Abbi Grace Breithaupt and Preslea Claire Phillips; numerous nieces and nephews and other family members. Memorials can be made in Bobby’s honor to Cedar Crest Baptist Church or First Baptist Church of Ferriday, LA.

Howard Ray Ivey

Howard “Charlie Brown” Ray Ivey, 56, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, in Jonesville. He was born October 31, 1959 in Catahoula Parish. Charlie Brown worked in farming and the oil field. He was an avid fisherman. He was an active member of Utility Baptist Church, where he was baptized and professed his life to Christ. He was also a problem-solver that took on projects at work and around the house. His smile and laughter will live in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 20, at Utility Baptist Church of Jonesville with Rev. James Foster and other members of the church officiating. Interment will follow in the Palo Alto Cemetery in Mayna under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. He was preceded in death by his father, Fern Ray Ivey; sister, Patricia Ann Ivey; paternal grandparents, John Howard Ivey and Mildred Trisler; and maternal grandparents, Frankie Leon Reeves and Sadie O. Reeves. Survivors include his son, David Ray Ivey and wife Brandy of Arkansas; mother, Bobby Jean R. Ivey of Jonesville; sister, Bobby Nell Ivey Wilson and husband Johnny of Jonesville; brother, Lonnie W. “Philco” Ivey and wife Lynne of Jena; two grandchildren, Dalton Ray Ivey and Elijah Brent Ivey; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews and special friends, Chris Freeman and family. Pallbearers will be Chris Freeman, Jimmie Smith, Russel Lippman, Aaron Jolly, John Manning, Glen Smith, and Pete Wrocklage. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Utility Baptist Church.

Josephine Holmes

Josephine Holmes, 85, of Alexandria, and a native of LaSalle Parish, passed from this life on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at the Lexington House. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Alexandria. Mrs. Holmes was a graduate of LaSalle High School. She is fondly remembered because of her love of crocheting and her love of sports, especially girl’s softball and basketball. Her greatest passion was spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Holmes was an enterprising person, starting her own drive in business in 1965, “Jo’s Drive In”. She is fondly remembered and will be missed by all who knew her. Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 16, from the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Alexandria with Brother Roger LaCaze and Donal Milton officiating. Interment followed in the Greenwood Memorial Park under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Nell Alexander Milton; and sisters, Carolyn Thompson and Cora Mae Bass. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Michael “Mickey” Holmes of Alexandria; daughters, Debbie VanDevelde and husband Andy of Katy, TX, and Sandra Barnhill and husband Greg of Haughton; brothers, Donal Milton and wife Jerry of Olla, and Richard Milton and wife Florence of Jena; sister, Mary Thiels of Alexandria; grandchildren, Scotty Smith, Stephanie VanDevelde, Sarah Cutter and husband Nick, and Victoria Barnhill. Pallbearers were Scotty Smith, Steven Owen, Richard Rougeau, Charles Clark, Elder Wilson, Elder Hardick and Elder Butler. John Mason Hudnall, Jr., 80, of Plantersville, Texas passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 in Conroe, Texas. He was born on March 22, 1936 in Jena, to John and Lillie Hudnall. John was preceded in death by his son, Aubrey Hudnall; parents, John and Lillie Adams Hudnall; brothers, Ed Hudnall and Roy Hudnall; and sister, Catherine Edwards. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Bettie Hudnall; daughters, Juliana Gaetz and husband Ronnie, Eddie Taylor, and Shelly Berger and husband Mark; grandchildren, Troy Taylor and wife Nina, Jessica Weisenhorn and husband Jeff, Rachel Taylor, Josh Hudnall and wife Alexis, John Taylor, Jeremy Taylor and Aaron Hudnall; great-grandchildren, Terrell, Kaylee, Logan, Bailey, and Sadie; and numerous more relatives and friends.

Joshua Abe Hall, 37, of Marion, entered eternal rest on Monday, July 11, 2016, at his residence. Joshua was a native of Pineville. He was a master logger for many years and was known as being a hard worker. He enjoyed making people laugh, riding his motorcycle and loved being outdoors. Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 16, at Hosanna Baptist Church of Ball with the Revs. Bennie Hollingsworth and Sam West officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Ball under direction of Rush Funeral Home of Pineville. Survivors include his wife, Mandi Hall; daughters, Gracie Hall of Pineville, and Hannah Hall of Jena; sons, Landon Hall of Marion and Cutler Hall of Jena; step-daughter, Bella of Marion; step-son, Dillian of Marion; mother, Charlie Slaughter and step-father, Dennis Slaughter; father, Rikki Hall and step-mother, Lisa Leckie; sisters, Janna Gatlin and husband Adam of Pineville, and Mikki Slaughter of Pollock; brother, Jamie Stroud and wife Shan of Pollock; Nona, B. Danny Ray Corley

Danny Ray Corley, 61, of Urania, began his new life with our Lord on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. He was born in Urania on June 19, 1955, to Miriam JoAnn Deen and Donald Corley of Urania. Danny Ray began his career as a carpenter in his mid teens and was a master carpenter by his late twenties. He was an expert woodworker, electrician, plumber, masoner, and roofer. If you live in LaSalle, Caldwell, or Grant Parish chances are you or a family member had the privilege of Danny Ray either building or remodeling your home. His passion for helping people and his love of carpentry went hand in hand and he loved what he did for people. Anything that was broken, he could fix it. Anybody, anywhere in our community knew that if there was a problem, Danny Ray was there to fix it. He was such a gentle and kind man and never met a stranger. Danny Ray had a passion for camping and the outdoors. He was a Boy Scout leader from 1985-1992 and was a member of the Order of the Arrow, an elite group of Boy Scouts that is highly respected. His other passion was history and he loved antiques. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Urania all 61 years of his life. A celebration of his life was held on Sunday, July 17, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 18th, 2016 at the Urania United Methodist Church in Urania, with Rev. Curtis Carroll officiating. Interment followed at Urania Cemetery in Urania, under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home of Ball. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, JoAnn Corley, on July 4th, 2016. Survivors include his wife, Judy Menefee Corley; his daughter, Danielle Corley; his father, Don Corley, beloved brothers and best friends, Jerry Corley and wife Patsy, Wayne Corley and wife Terri, and Mike Corley and wife Teresa. He was a loving uncle to 16 wonderful nieces, nephews, their husbands/wives and many precious great nieces and nephews.

Hugh M. Burnham

Hugh Montgomery Burnham, 88, of Shreveport, and formerly of Jena, went to be with his Lord July 13, 2016. He was born in Hattiesburg, MS, August 26, 1927 to the late Clifton and Grace Burnham. Hugh graduated from Hattiesburg High school in 1945, received Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry from LSU in 1950 and his Master’s Degree in 1965. He served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946. He married Wanda Copeland, now deceased, and had four children. In 1977 he married Frances Richardson. Hugh was employed with Bodcaw Company in Jena as a forester from 1950-1980, was promoted to Executive Vice President in charge of lands, fiber and agriculture. IP purchased Bodcaw and he was transferred to Shreveport, where he was employed as Regional Manager then General Manager from 1980 to 1991 for fiber supply for all IP mills. He retired from IP in 1991 and was employed as Consultant for TL James Company for a number of years. Hugh served as President of Jena Kiwanis Club, and as Chairman of the LaSalle General Hospital Board of Directors and worked with the Boy Scouts. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Shreveport. He loved to travel by RV, cruises, and especially by Amtrak. His other hobbies through the years were fishing, golfing, gardening and especially reading. Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 16, at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel in Shreveport with Rev. Chad Hardbarger and Bro. Keith Lauter officiating. Interment followed at the Jena Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Rose-Neath of Shreveport. Survivors include his second wife, Frances Richardson Burnham of Shreveport; four children by his deceased wife, Nancy and husband Phil Rodrigue of Lake Charles, Bruce and wife Jeanie Burnham of Shreveport, Keith Burnham and partner Mario Gaitan of Austin, TX, and Penny and husband Keith Mayo of Jena; six grandchildren, Tessa and husband Todd Granger of Lake Charles, Nick Nelson of Alexandria, Drew May of Jena, Lauren and Dustin Poole of Jena, Keith Lauter of Omaha, TX, Miranda Lauter of Shreveport; three great-grandchildren, Seth and Bella Granger of Lake Charles, and Benjamin Nelson of Alexandria; one brother, Alan and wife Maureen Burnham of Chuuk FSM; and a nephew, Brian Burnham of Divide, CO.

Robert M. Beech

Robert Marion Beech, 91, of the Mt. Sinai Community, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at his residence. He was born August 10, 1924 in Harrisonburg to the union of his parents, Henry and Amelia Lee Beech. Mr. Beech served his country in the United States army during World War II, and was a retired logger. Last August, he was cited by the Mission House in Jena after serving as a faithful volunteer for more than 35 years. During his retirement reception, Mr. Beech was cited for bagging an estimated 100,000 bags of groceries at the Mission House during his years serving there. At the time of his retirement, Billy Fowler, Mission House Director, stated, “Volunteers like Robert Beech cannot be replaced. God will surely have a special place in Heaven for people like Robert Beech. What a blessing it has been to be around such a great person. His contributions to the Mission House are so many they cannot be identified.” As a volunteer for the mission house for more than three decades, he along with all the original volunteers were voted into the Mission House Hall of Fame. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 15, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Byron Norris and Denver McBroom officiating. Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery of Manifest under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lynda Sue Beech; sons, Timothy Jack Beech and Stephen Bruce Beech; sister, Lavida Patrick; brothers, Tyrus Beech, Vandever Beech, Henry Dee Beech, and Buford Beech. Survivors include his wife, Dorsie Parker Beech of Trout; daughter, June Gann and husband Scotty of Jena; grandchildren, Scotty Gann, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Columbus, GA., Rocky Gann and wife Christina of Chicago, IL., Jacob Beech and wife Rachel of Beaverton, OR., Erin Beech and Tim of Olivehurst, CA. and Melissa Robinson of Jonesville; 13 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Tracy Beech, Jacob Beech, Scott Maxwell, Scotty Gann, Jr., Aiden Gann and Liam Gann. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Fowler, Leroy Shinnick, Johnny Parker, Arthur Parker and his brothers and sisters in Christ from Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

Barbara Mosely Back

Barbara Mosely Back, 74, of the Belah Community near Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, July 24, 2016. She was born May 14, 1942 in Jena, the second daughter born to Roy and Lillian Humphries Mosely. Barbara grew up in Jena and graduated from Jena High School in 1960. She moved away in the mid 60’s and returned to Jena in the late 70’s. She retired from Louisiana Rehabilitation Services in 1999. She was a member of Sanctuary Family Worship Center Church in Jena. Services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Heath Harris and Evelyn Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the Belah-Fellowship Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Roy Lawrence and R. L. Mosely; and a granddaughter, Joan Robertson. Survivors include her children, James K. Robertson, Cindy Tew and Darren Back; sisters, Elizabeth Cupples of Bossier City, Laverne Paul and Kathryn Floyd, both of Jena; grandchildren, Kaitlin Back, Jordan Guinn, Rosaline Ashworth, Crystal Cameron and three great grandchildren. The family requests memorials be made to The Sanctuary Family Worship Center Building Fund of Jena or the American Lung Association.

Thomas Owen Hamilton, 86, of Jonesville, passed from his life on Monday, July 18, 2016, at the Oakdale Community Hospital in Oakdale. He was born Friday, April 18, 1930 in Terrahaute, IN, to the union of his parents, Jack and Rose Wilson Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton was a resident of Jonesville and a member of the Good Road Pentecostal Church of Jonesville. Services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, at Good Road Pentecostal Church of Jonesville with the Revs. Brian Taylor, Chris Hamilton and Chad Franklin officiating. Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery of Manifest under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alta Hamilton; daughter, Tammy June Hamilton; granddaughter, Crystal Guice; four brothers, Bill Hamilton, Richard Hamilton, Walter Hamilton, and John Hamilton; and one sister, Dorris Franklin. Survivors include three sons, Billy Ray Woods and wife Fran of Jonesville, James Owen Hamilton and wife Pam of Aimwell, and Robert Andrew Hamilton and wife Charlotte of Olla; three daughters, Judy Catherine Deville, Norma Hamilton, and Donna Book and husband Tommy, all of Jonesville; brother, Frankie Hamilton of Rodgers, AR; two sisters, Ivy Ford of Olla, and Catherine Hamilton of Arkansas; 16 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren. Terry Wayne King

Terry Wayne King, 74, of Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, July 24, 2016, at his residence in the Midway Community. He was born March 28, 1942 in Jena to the union of his parents, Harvey and Clara “Jack” King. Terry was a retired pusher in the oilfield, and served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a great musician and played with several groups, including the band performing at the Jena Senior Citizens Center. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, in the East Jena Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Norris and Terry King, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Belah Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Charles “Doodle” King, H. A. King, Harley “Pud” King, Lee “Bozo” King, Jerry “Flop” King, J. G. King and Jimmy King; granddaughters, Chelsie Fogleman and Ainsley Wilson. Survivors include his wife, Billy Edwards King of Jena; daughters, Carla King Fogleman and husband Daniel and Kristy King LeJeune and husband Trent; sons, Terry DeWayne King, Jr. and wife Kimberly and Carl Anthony King and wife Sybil; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jason King, Terry King, Jr., Derek Wilson, Daniel Fogleman, Carl King, and Dustin Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jena Senior Citizens Band.

Terry Lynn Carr

Terry Lynn Carr, 47, of Groveton, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 in Shreveport. He was born August 31, 1968 in Pasadena, TX to his parents, Horace Leonard Carr, Jr. and Charlene Law Carr. Terry graduated from Groveton High School with the class of 1987 and later married his high school sweetheart, Karen Snyder. He lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his sons. He never hesitated to express his feelings. Terry was the best father that his boys could ever have asked for as a parent. He was the rock that his family stood upon. He had a genuine love for children and he enjoyed reading to his youngest son Gavan about ‘Hank the Cow Dog’ and going to watch Little League baseball games. He also enjoyed watching or playing a little football with his family. Terry also had a deep love for spending time in the Piney Woods and learned many of life’s lessons along with how to hunt and fish. He especially loved to turkey hunt and teaching his son’s about the outdoors. Terry was a life member of Masonic Lodge #284 AF & AM. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, at the River of Life Church in Trinity, TX with Rev. Michael Don Loftin officiating. Interment followed in the Thornton Cemetery in Glendale, TX under direction of Groveton Funeral Home of Groveton, TX. He is preceded in death by his mother, Charlene (Law) Carr. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Karen Carr of Groveton; his three sons, Garet Lynn Carr of Lafayette, Guner Jake Carr of Jena, and Gavan Alexander Carr of Groveton; his father, Horace Leonard Carr, Jr. of Glendale, TX; his brother, Tommy J. Carr and and wife Bridget of Glendale, TX; his nephew, Clay Carr of Glendale, TX; and numerous other relatives and many, many friends.

Jonathan Paul Jones, 40, of Columbia, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016, at his residence. He was born March 23, 1976 in Urania, to his parents, Denise Murphrey Cox and Robert Benjamin Jones. Jonathan was loved dearly by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed. Graveside services were held at 9 a.m., Thursday, July 21, at the Urania Cemetery in Urania with Rev. Donnie Boney officiating. Interment followed under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. He is preceded in death by a son, Destin Jones, and his grandfathers, William Thomas Murphrey and Robert Benjamin Jones, Sr. Survivors include his parents; his fiancée, Tori Powell; sons, Blake Jones and Tyler Jones; daughter, Taylor Jones; brothers, Bradley Jones, Ben Jones, Dawson Jones, Jesse Cox, Jacob Cox, and Joshua Cox; sister, Casey Toups; and grandmothers, Mary Murphrey and Dee Lois Whiddon. He was born May 7, 1947 in Pineville to the union of his parents, Corbett Reeder and Jessie Irene “Jack” Boyd Reeder. John was a member of Summerville Baptist Church and worked for Entergy in the control room. Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 23, at Summerville Baptist Church with the Revs. Jesse Henderson, Leslie Tam and Craig James officiating. A committal service followed in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Jena under direction of White Oaks Funeral Home of Oakdale. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, John Gale Coker, Sr.; his grandparents, John and Stella Doughty Boyd and William and Minnerva Coutee Reeder. Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Betty Lou Coker Reeder of Jena; one son, John William Reeder, Jr. and wife Kelli of Baton Rouge; stepdaughter, Misty Gray and husband Jason of MerRouge; step-son, Brandon Cahoon and his companion, Jada of Olla; four brothers, Michael Reeder and wife Jackie of Cabot, AR, Billy Reeder of Pollock, Russell Reeder and wife Darlene of Summerville, and Darryl Reeder and wife LaRae of Jena; two sisters, Delores Cooper and husband Bob of Summerville and Jackie Hooter and husband Clifford of Jena; grandchildren, Chris Reeder and Ross Reeder; five step grandchildren, Corbin, Courtney, and Carey Cahoon, Kaitlyn Gray and Trystan McBroom; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Bettye Jo Sandifer, 84, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. She was born March 22, 1932 in Urania to the union of her parents, Jessie Burl and Pearl Doyle Allbritton. Mrs. Sandifer was retired from the Belden Corporation. Services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, at the Good Pine Baptist Church with Rev. Brandon Poole and Jeff Sandifer officiating. Interment will follow in the Renfrow Cemetery near Jena under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by husband, Orvin Sandifer; her parents; son, Larry Gene Sandifer; sisters, Edith Blackshear, Ethel Shankles, Nelda Allbritton and Lou McCarty; brothers, Gilbert Allbritton, Leonard Allbritton, and Earl Allbritton. Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Cooper and husband James of Fairview Alpha; sons, Joe Sandifer and wife Teresa and Jeff Sandifer and wife Mandy, all of Jena; sister, Pearl LaCour of Bossier City; grandchildren, Christy Sandifer, Shelly Johnson, Rae Sandifer, Teacy Kendrick, Amanda Ferguson, Matt Cooper, Morgan Cooper and Allison Sandifer; 12 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Pete McCarty, Kyle Robertson, James Allbritton, Eddie Harrington, Rodney Harrington and Lane Caps. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Cooper, Cole Ferguson, Eli Ferguson, Trent Norman and Waymon Sandifer.

Rev. Jimmie L. Thornhill, 69, of the Midway Community, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at his residence. He was born September 17, 1946, in Alexandria, to the union of his parents, Howard and Marie Thornhill. Rev. Thornhill was founder and pastor of Heaven’s Gate Pentecostal Church in Ball. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 22, at Community Pentecostal Church of Manifest with the Revs. Chuck Fritz, Ronnie House and Fred Thornhill officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Howard Thornhill, John Thornhill and Tommy Thornhill; three infant sisters. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Sallie Jeanette Smith Thornhill of Midway; brother, Fred Thornhill and wife Evelyn of Meridian, MS; sister, Debora Louviere and husband Freddie of Ball; daughter, Viola Thornhill Cazes and husband Joe of Libuse; two special granddaughters, Emily Grace Cazes and Maria Mae Jeanette Cazes; five more grandchildren; six great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends; also survived by special friend Shelton Boothe and Heaven’s Gate Ministries Church family and friends. Pallbearers were William Beck, Thomas Berryhill, Westley Berryhill, Derreck Smith, Joseph Cazes and Scottie Boothe. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Whatley, Rev. Joel Thomas Cripps, 51, of West Monroe, passed from this life on Sunday, July 31, 2016, in Jena. He was born June 11, 1965 in Ruston to the union of his parents, Willie and Virginia Cripps. Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 2, in the chapel of Griffin Funeral Home in West Monroe with Bro. Tom Lowe officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Arcadia under direction of Griffin Funeral Home of West Monroe. He was preceded in death by his sister, Shela Roberson. Survivors include his parents, Willie and Virginia Cripps of Jena; his fiancé, Debbie McIntyre of West Monroe; one daughter, Jami Roberts of West Monroe; one son, Josh Cripps and wife Brittany of West Monroe; one step-daughter, Savannah Wyrick of Ruston; one step-son, Tyler Wyrick and wife Megan, of West Monroe; three brothers, Michael Cripps and wife Cheryl of Calhoun, David Cripps of West Monroe and Steve Cripps and wife Charlotte of Jena; five grandchildren, Dakota Roberts, Skylar Roberts, Maverick Cripps, Isadora Cripps and Maya Wyrick; and a host of extended family and friends. Pallbearers were Tyler Wyrick, Jeremy Cox, Jonathan Vallery, Keith Young, Marcus Cripps, Ben Gaines and Nick Cripps. Honorary pallbearers were Ron Phillips, Steve Thompson and Darrell Nordan.

Olive ‘Mitch’ Futrell

Olive LaVerne Mitchell “Mitch” Futrell, 90, died peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 2016, in Alexandria. Mitch graduated from Jena High School in 1943. She married F.D. Futrell in 1947. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northwestern State College in 1961. Mitch worked in the maternity ward at the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria, LA for many years. She then went to work for Central State Hospital Outpatient Clinic, retiring after 40 years of nursing. A devout Christian, Mitch was deeply involved in her church. Mitch loved to bake, sing with her choir group, God’s Recycled Angels, spend time with family and friends, and could always be counted on when anyone needed her. Survivors include her sister, Lonie Lou “Imogene” Andrews, of Eros; loving daughters, Martha Tiedt and husband, Roger of Pampa, TX, Judy Broussard of Pineville, and Nancy Kute and husband Terry of Charlotte, NC. Mitch was a proud grandmother to her nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and was a beloved aunt to many wonderful nieces and nephews as well. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Daniel “F.D.” Futrell; her sisters, Evelyn “Inez” Taylor, Bonnie Talley, Aldis Etura “Judy” Talley, Ruby Mitchell, Mavis Stevenson, and brother, Oliver Clayton Mitchell, Jr. At Mitch’s request, her body was donated to the LSU School of Medicine for the advancement of science. A public memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 11:00 am, at Palestine United Methodist Church, 306 Tioga Road, Ball, LA. with a luncheon to follow. Bro. Nathaniel Langford will officiate. Memorials may be made to Palestine UMC, in memory of Mitch Futrell, P.O. Box 68, Ball, LA 71405.

Janette Dosher Guinn

Janette Dosher Guinn, 85, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at her residence. She was born August 5, 1930 to the union of her parents, Richard and Julia Finlay Dosher. Mrs. Guinn worked in the clerical profession for the Manifest-Rhinehart Water System and retired at the age of 80. The greatest joy in her life was her love for her Lord Jesus, music, her Oak Grove Baptist Church family, and of course, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her love of music allowed for her to belong to the Oak Grove Baptist Quartet and be the pianist/organist for 65 years. She was her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s biggest fan and never missed any of the activities they were involved in. Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 30, at Oak Grove Baptist Church of Rhinehart with the Revs. Gary Wagoner and Reid Terry officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Louis Guinn; her parents; a sister, Neva Burley; and two brothers, H. D. Dosher and Charlie Dosher. Survivors include her daughter, Jana McEntyre and husband Kenneth of Jonesville; her son, Kent Guinn and wife Cindy of Jonesville; her sister, Margaret Rayburn and husband Bob of Laurel, MS; grandchildren, Heather Terry and husband Reid, Chad Otwell and wife Jessica, Cheryl Kimbrough, Shane Guinn and wife Lynsey, Troy McEntyre, Lyndsie Guinn, and Ray McEntyre; great grandchildren, Rachel Terry, Micah Terry, Noel Kimbrough, Wesley Otwell, Eli Terry, Adassah Kimbrough, Landry Otwell, McKenzi Guinn, Bree Turnage, Blayne Guinn, Lily Griffith-McEntyre, and Kayson Guinn. Pallbearers were Chad Otwell, Troy McEntyre, Ray McEntyre, Bo Little, Lawson Little, and Rick Payne.
