Wanda Sue Orman Stenhoff, 67, of Tullos, passed from this life on Sunday, August 21, 2016, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. She was born December 26, 1948 in Ruston to the union of her parents, Arthur and Opal Loe Orman. Wanda received her beautician’s license and worked many years as a hairdresser. In the last several years she has been a homemaker and a volunteer with the Olla Fire Department. She enjoyed collecting teddy bears and taking care of her mother’s doll collection. Wanda loved dogs and had many through the years. Services were held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24, from the sanctuary of Olla United Methodist Church with Rev. Aaron Carpenter officiating. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Don Stenhoff. Survivors include her special friend, Carl Damron; numerous cousins and great-cousins; members of the Fire Department of Olla and lots of friends. Pallbearers were Shelby Loe, Sr., Shelby Loe, II, Jerrod Douglas, Jake Long, Kendall Normand and Ricky Harris. Wayne Surveal Poole, 71, of Summerville, gained his Heavenly reward shortly after 9 p.m. last Saturday night, August 27, 2016. He was born April 1, 1945 to the union of his parents, Cary Surveal and Elizabeth Octavia Whitehead Poole. Wayne was a carpenter by trade, and of the Baptist faith. Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 29, at Summerville Baptist Church with the Revs. Mickey Hudnall, Glen Roark, and Jess Henderson officiating. Interment followed in the Spring Ridge Cemetery near Aimwell under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Dee Powell, Linda Haye and Elaine Poole. Those left to treasure his memories include his wife: Donna Nell Poole of Summerville; two daughters, Kim Morace and husband Troy of Belah and Kristie Taylor and husband Tebo of Summerville; four sons, Kevin Poole and wife Kristie of Jena, Kerry Poole of Clarks, Kyle Poole and wife Katie of Pollock and Kirk Poole and wife Tracie of Little Creek; two sisters, Reba Randall and husband Thad of Aimwell and Ruby Dannehl and husband Ricky of Enterprise; a brother, Dean Poole and wife Mary Ann of Rosefield; 11 grandchildren, Jessica Barber and husband Joe, Candice Jewell and husband Jesse, Lauren McKee, Christopher Taylor, Timothy McKee, Kameron McKee, Holden Syverson, Charlee Poole, Rylie Poole, Tamrynn Poole and Heath Poole and a great granddaughter, Madilynn Jewell.

Mary Catherine Paul, 75, of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, August 22, 2016, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. She was born January 14, 1941 to the union of her parents, Allen Monroe, Jr. and Francis Catherine Uttz Moore. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug.29, at Pine Grove Cemetery in Rhinehart. Interment followed under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, J. O. Paul. Survivors include one brother, Frank Allen Moore of Lumberton, TX; and one sister, Margie Kay Ellis of Vidor, TX.

Sharon Sue Isonhood

Sharon Sue Mc-Guffee Isonhood, 75, of Enterprise, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at home after a strong fought battle with cancer. She was born July 4, 1941 in Enterprise to the union of her parents, Ancel and Ruby McGuffee. Sharon was a loving wife to Earl Isonhood for 54½-years. They were married on January 25, 1962. Although God did not bless Sharon with children, He used her to bless many children from California to Louisiana and she loved each and every one of them. Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 27 from the sanctuary of New Ouachita Baptist Church at Enterprise with the Revs. James King and Craig James officiating. Graveside services followed in the Rosefield Cemetery in Rosefield under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Darryl McGuffee. Survivors include her loving husband, Earl Isonhood of Enterprise; her sister, Rita McGuffee Andrews and husband Max of Jena; brother, Cary McGuffee and wife Krista of Enterprise; and many nieces, nephews and devoted friends.

Mary Edith Guin

Mary Edith Guin, 88, of Tullos, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at The Summit. She was born July 2, 1928 to the union of her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Faye Albert. Mrs. Guin was a member of Bentley United Pentecostal Church and pioneer of the Pentecostal Faith, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She retired as a housekeeper from Parkview Nursing Home, Winnfield. Services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Bentley United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Bruce Maxwell, E. R. Johnson, Craig Martin, Leland Guin and Donnell Spurgeon officiating. Interment followed in the Bay Springs Cemetery of Chopin under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Pineville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Guin; son, Clarence Wayne Guin; her parents; siblings, Arthur Albert, Henry Albert, Sam Albert, Clarence Beasley and Octavia Daniels. Survivors include her sons, Shelton Guin and wife Elizabeth, and Joel Guin; daughter, Rita Shelton and husband William; ten grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Leland Guin, Heath Guin, Gary McDaniel, Joel Edward Guin and Bobby Lynn Albert.

Amanda Cathleen Dale

Amanda Cathleen Trichel Dale, 85, of Sicily Island, passed from this life on Friday, August 26, 2016, at Plantation Oaks Nursing Center in Wisner. She was born April 24, 1931 in Jena to the union of her parents, Edwin Berchman, Sr. and Mae Andrews Trichel. Cathleen grew up in Harrisonburg, attending Harrisonburg Elementary and High School. She graduated from Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge where she completed her senior year. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Education from Louisiana State University. She returned home to begin a long and rewarding teaching career, which included teaching business education at Sicily Island High School and Ferriday High School and mathematics at Martin Junior High School in Sicily Island. Mrs. Dale was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Sicily Island where she served as pianist and taught the Senior Ladies’ Sunday School Class. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Louisiana Retired Teachers’ Association. Services were held at 1 p.m., Sunday, August 28, at Sicily Island First Baptist Church with the Revs. James Gass and Kenneth Hoots officiating. Interment followed in the Harrisonburg Cemetery under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. Cathleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Sam E. Dale, Jr.; and her brother, Berchman Trichel, Jr. Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Dale of Harrisonburg, and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Travis Bowlin, Michael Louis Heaton, Dave Allen Hudspeth, Matt Myers, Michael Tubre and Sidney Tubre. Honorary pallbearers included Donald Ashley, Barney Bowlin and Walter Myers, Jr. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Sicily Island, the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, the Gideons’ Association or the charity of your choice.

Wilfred “Freddy” Book, 74, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Friday, August 26, 2016, at his home. He was born January 17, 1942. Freddy loved fishing, hotrods and playing the guitar. Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Good Road Pentecostal Church of Jonesville with the Revs. Bryan Taylor and Marion Trisler, Jr. officiating. Arrangements were under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Jo Book; sons, Kenny M. Book, Robert Y. Book, Carl J. Book and Mark J. Book; sister, Bonnie Phifer; brothers, Terry Book, Marty Book, Frank Book and Jimmy Book. Survivors include his daughter, Evelyn Ballance; ten grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters, Linda Whitley of Castroville, TX, Judy Reynolds, Mary Embry and Nancy Sanford; brother, Jeff Book; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved pets, Cujo and Leroy. Marie Wooten, 86, of Georgetown, passed from this life on Friday, September 2, 2016, at her residence. Mrs. Wooten was a registered nurse and served at the LaSalle Parish Health Unit for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and will be deeply missed. Services were held at 11 a.m, Monday, Sept. 5, at Georgetown Baptist Church in Georgetown with Pastor Carl Griffith officiating. Interment followed in the Georgetown Cemetery in Georgetown under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Alyne Sharp, and brother, James E. Sharp. Survivors include her son, John Wooten of Georgetown; daughter, Teresa Wooten of Georgetown; brothers, Harvey W. Sharp of Houston, TX, and Robert D. Sharp of Giddings, TX; sister, Virginia Pryer of Houston TX; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Georgie Joe Rutledge, 90, of Rhinehart, passed from this life Saturday, September 3, 2016 at LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. He was born April 30, 1926, to the union of his parents, Tobe and Mabelle Rutledge. Joe was a Christian man who was devoted faithfully to God. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Sunday, September 4, at Pine Grove Cemetery in Rhinehart, with Rev. Mark Johnson officiating. He was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta Rutledge, and his parents. Survivors include one son, David Rutledge and wife Kathy of Rhinehart; one daughter, Pauline Sharp and husband Johnny of Rhinehart; four grandchildren, Crystal Thacker and husband Shadrick, and Kirt Rutledge and wife Julie, all of Manifest, Jennifer Hyde and husband Christopher of Winnfield, and Caitlin Taylor and husband Gage of Rhinehart; six great grandchildren, Heather Thacker, Austin Thacker, Aaron Rutledge, Tyler Sizemore, Taylor Parks and Natalie McKim. Jerry D. Pendarvis

Jerry Dewayne Pendarvis, 73, of Tullos, passed from this life on Monday, August 29, 2016. He was born Sunday, October 18, 1942 in Winnfield, to the union of his parents, Ira Dane and Eloise Adair Roberts Pendarvis. Jerry was a graduate of Fairpark High School in Shreveport and served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He was retired from Placid Refining Company after 30 years, later worked for Kilpatrick Life Insurance Company for ten years, and was the former business owner of J & J Curb Market of Tullos. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, where he loved his church family. Jerry loved quartet singing and was the tenor singer with The Sounds of Calvary for many years. He will be remembered as having never met a stranger as well as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Beulah Baptist Church with the Revs. Lamar Carpenter and Norris Curry officiating. Interment followed in the Beulah Cemetery of Georgetown under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, June Pendarvis of Tullos; daughters, Lori Walton and husband Jim Bob of Winnfield, and Tanya Warren and husband Larry of Olla; son, Joey Pendarvis and wife Nina of Winnfield; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Clem Pendarvis and wife Glenda of Tullos; brother-in-law, Archie Hand and wife Joyce of Fortson, GA; nephew, Brock Pendarvis and wife Heather of Winnfield; many loving cousins; and a beloved pet, Mojo, his poodle. Pallbearers were Justin Pendarvis, Jamey Pendarvis, Josh Pendarvis, Brock Pendarvis, Luke Walton, Spencer McAfee, Devin Sauce, and Zach Tarver. Honorary pallbearers were R. D. Gracie Pitmon Roberts

Gracie Pitmon Roberts, who was blessed to have lived on this earth for 100 years, passed peacefully into the arms of her loving Savior on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at her residence in Olla. She was born March 9, 1916 in LaSalle Parish to the union of her parents, Willie Leo Pitmon and Hattie Duke Pitmon. Gracie was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She was a homemaker that raised her daughter and grandsons in a loving and Christian manner. Her hobbies included quilting and crocheting. She was the last living member of Christ Church in Olla and when it closed, became a member of Christ Church in Columbia. The quote chosen for her headstone, “A Darling on Earth, an Angel in Heaven,” truly speaks of how precious Gracie was thought of by her loved ones. A celebration of life service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, September 5, from the sanctuary of Christ Church of Columbia with Bro. Don DeLukie delivering the eulogy and Bro. Daniel Sitters officiating. Interment followed at Rosefield Cemetery in Rosefield, under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Amos Roberts; two sisters, Virginia Womack and Avis Sykes; and two brothers, Obie Leo Pitmon and Elton Lee Pitman. Survivors include her daughter, Mary F. Sanders of Olla; two sisters, Eunice Hudson of Mer Rouge and Waymel Smith of Sugarland, TX; two grandsons, Don W. Hutchings and wife Johanna and John Norman Hutchings and wife Judy; six great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous friends. Pallbearers were John Hutchings, Don Hutchings, Ryan McDonald, Dandy Dove, Steven Wall and Don DeLukie. Honorary pallbearers were Norman Glenn Hutchings and Jonthan Hutchings.

Interment followed at Chalk Hill Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Houston Phillip Ganey, one brother, Ted Randall, and sisters Billie Moseley and Emogene Coutee. Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Paul and husband Jeff of Monterey; her son, Tony Ganey and wife Pam of Monterey; granddaughters Misi Albert and husband Jon of Downingtown, PA, Sheree Cramer and husband Shawn of Ruston, and Jessica Ryan and husband Morgan of Natchez, MS; grandsons, Bill New of Monterey and Kevan Paul of Tulsa, OK; seven great-grandchildren, Lauren New, Bailey New, Madison New, Andrew Albert, Drew Cramer, Kate Cramer, and Molly Ryan. Pallbearers were Gary Moseley, Ronnie Moseley, Conley Wallace, Steve Wallace, Kevan Paul, and Bill New. Interment followed in the Urania Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Wilmore Bordelon and James Brooks; sons, James Marvin Bordelon and Lester Joseph Bordelon; daughter, Mary Charlene Bordelon; and three brothers, Sam Bo Jones, Jerry Jones and Harry Jones. She was born July 25, 1929 in Mound, LA to the union of her parents, Tom and Lavelle Boone Davis. Jennie was a member of Olla United Methodist Church and she enjoyed gardening, fishing, and bowling. Services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 5, at the Olla United Methodist Church with Rev. Curtis Carroll officiating. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery in Olla under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Boyett; her parents; brothers, Johnny Davis and Jimmy Brown; and great-granddaughter, Aubree Boyett. Jimmie G. White, 72, of Jena, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Jena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jena. Services were held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Jena Church of God with Rev. Kent Hatfield officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah-Fellowship Community under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Coleman White and Inez Dotson White; one brother, Willie Allen White; and great nephew, Jayden Temple. Survivors include his two brothers, John R. White, Sr. and wife Kathy and Roy Lee White; five nieces; three nephews; five great nieces; three great nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Pallbearers were John R. White, Jr., Jeffery White, Josh Temple, Chris Bassett, Justin Bassett and Cory Dotson. Honorary pallbearers were James White, Joseph Constance, Charles Stevens and Danny Jones.

Helen Yvonne Peyton

Helen Yvonne Herrington Peyton of Lafayette passed away on September 3, 2016, nine days shy of her 81st birthday. She was born on September 12, 1935, in a little lumber town, Urania, to her loving parents, Jewel Gregory Herrington and Robert George Herrington. Helen attended Urania High School where she graduated as Salutatorian. She loved music and played the French Horn in the high school band. She also won a scholarship to LSU by winning a singing competition in Baton Rouge as part of a women’s trio. At 18 years old, she married 20-year old John Ray Peyton, Sr. in Woodville, MS, to whom she was married for 58 years. For the next several years she followed him to the drilling rigs in West Texas as he worked his way up in the oilfield and they eventually settled in Lafayette. She was a devoted mother, raising three children and was also the grandmother of ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Jewel was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Lafayette since 1964. She taught children in Sunday school for over 30 years. She lived a Christian life and was kind to everyone. She will be remembered as a devoted mother and wife, and the Lord’s faithful servant. Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 6, at First Baptist Church of Lafayette with Dr. Steve Horn officiating. Interment followed in Greenlawn Cemetery under direction of Delhomme Funeral Home – Bertrand. She was preceded in death by her husband, and parents. Survivors include her three children, John Ray Peyton, Jr. of Lafayette, Christie Jumonville of Covington, and Julie Peyton Sanders and husband Robert Scott Sanders of Austin, TX; ten grandchildren, Kellie Rogers and husband Doug, Ami Peyton-Kleiner and husband Stephen Insler, Neil Angelle, Katelin Jumonville, Hallie Jumonville, Patrick Jumonville, Austin Tedesco, Mackinsey Sanders, Sydney Sanders, and Carson Sanders, as well as five great-granddaughters. William “Bill” Ryan

William “Bill” J. Ryan, 82, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at his home. He was born January 5, 1934. His passion was family, friends and playing ball. He especially loved playing basketball and volleyball with his sons and grandson. He also loved to dance a jig on the dance floor with anyone that was ready to dance all night. He was loved by all that met him. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, at Sandy Lake Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Joel Ford and Rusty Hathcock, and Dr. Philip Caples officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery near Jena under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Ryan; and siblings, Milo Ryan, Nellie Linder, Vonda Ford, Leo Ryan, Violet Gerbish, and Roger Ryan. Survivors include his brother, Jim Ryan; sisters, Lorraine Parker and Helen Jones; children, Chris Ryan and wife Pam and Chad Ryan and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Carter Ryan, Landry Ryan, Casey and Abbey Ryan and Chasity Spinks; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was born Wednesday, October 20, 1943 in Jacksonville, Florida to the union of her parents, Herbert Lloyd Redfearn and Alice Rose Maxwell Armstrong. Mrs. Parker was a loving mother, wife, and grandmother, devoting her full-time attention to her family. Memorial services will be announced at a later date under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sydney Cruse; and brother, R. Clark Redfearn. Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Raymond Parker of Georgetown; children, Greg Waxley and wife Mary of Lafayette, Tracy Waxley Zimmerman and husband Rex of Calvin, Jennifer Waxley O’Neal of Maurepas, Kyle Waxley and wife Cathy of Pineville, Ty Parker and wife Malinda of Dodson, Raymond Nathaniel “Nat” Parker, II and wife Tara of Georgetown, Kotye Parker O’Neal and husband Joey of Kelly; 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; siblings, Hebert Loyd Redfearn, II, Donald Redfearn, Timmy Armstrong, Hunter Armstrong and Jane VanMol.

Jesse Walter Greer, 62, of Olla, passed from this life on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born May 23, 1954 at Jena to the union of his parents, Jesse Durham Greer and Allene Shaw Greer. Memorial services were held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla with Rev. Ronnie Tarver officiating. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his significant other, Lisa Knighten. Survivors include his children, Jesse Trinity Greer and wife Carol of Cornersville, IL and Melisa Greer Chapman and husband Casey of Trout; his special friend, Nelly Hennebe McKinzy of Columbia; his brother, Edmond Earl Greer of Denver, CO; his sister, Mary Moon of Texas; and two grandchildren, Cody Lane Greer and Blade Lynn McMillin.

Elvena “Perper” Book, 90, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Friday, September 9, 2016, at The Columns Nursing Home in Jonesville. She loved fishing, gardening, church and singing. She was also a very great momma. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, at Good Road Pentecostal Church of Jonesville with the Revs. Chad Franklin, Bryan Taylor, and Joel Ford officiating. Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery of Manifest under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her husband, T.J. Book; mother, Dora ”Girlie” Paul; father, Milton “Manny” Paul; brother, Ethelbert Paul; sister, Lois Adams; grandsons, Scottie Book, Logan Book and Jewel Book. Survivors include her daughter, Melinda E. Netherland and husband Ben; sons, Melton Jasper Book and wife Charlotte, Melvin Coy Book and wife Rhonda and Melton “Tuffy” Jasper Book, Jr.; host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Thiry Winborne and Patsy Carlton; and brother, Pervon Paul and wife Sheila. Pallbearers were Tyler Netherland, Grady Richey, Jacob Whatley, Melton “Tuffy” Book, Sydney Book and Luke Book.
