Otto “Paw-Paw” Slay

Michael Otto “Paw-Paw” Slay, 68, of Sicily Island, and formerly of Jena, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. He was born September 26, 1947 in Jena, to the union of his parents, Otto and Eunice Hudnall Slay. Mr. Slay was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam conflict. He served on the Destroyer USS Tattnal as a Fire Control Tech. He worked as a rig engineer for Ensco Drilling for 30 years and retired four years ago. He was a member of East Jena Baptist Church. Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Tommy Sanson and Oliver Dean officiating. Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery in Jena with full military honors, under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Hazel King. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sharon Slay of Sicily Island; one son, Michael L. Slay and wife Tammy of Fairfield, TX; sister, Marilyn Rose Lutrick of Jena; and grandson, Lance Slay of Sicily Island. Pallbearers were Ricky Ferrington, Buddy Love, Jeff King, Michael Shapply, Rick Villemarette, Lanelle Masters, Matt Wilkinson and Beau Melton.
