Allen “Al” Eugene Ganey

Allen “Al” Eugene Ganey, 71, departed this life to be with Our Father and Savior  on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born March 2, 1943 in Zenoria to the union of his parents, Gordon G.
Ganey and Bernice Stoneman Ganey. Al retired after 20 years of service in the U.S. Army as a 1st Sergeant, had served overseas and was wounded as a member of the Special Forces and received a Purple Heart in
Vietnam. He entered into the military as a young man of 17 and retired as a disabled veteran at the age of 38. He followed his military service by obtaining Bachelor of Arts degrees from Regis University in Computer
Science and Human Resources Management and had careers in insurance, postal service, and later in life, as a school bus driver. Al did not know a stranger, had a great sense of humor and was quick to make many friends along his path in this life and leaves a legacy of extended family and friends, who all have funny memories and stories of mischief from his youth and adult life in the military and throughout life. He was an avid fisherman
and was known to travel extensively with his buddies to find a good fishing hole. A memorial service in his honor was held Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Korean American United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs, CO.
He was laid to rest beside his father at Chalk Hill Cemetery in the Little Creek Community at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 1, with arrangements by Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert J. Ganey; and grandparents, Claiborne “Clabe” Lee Ganey and Lou Anna “Mama Lula” Stringer Ganey. Survivors include his wife, Keun Jae Ganey of Colorado Springs; his brother, Larry Ganey of Houston, TX; two sisters, Mary Andrews of Abilene, TX and Mildred Prudhomme of Olla; his lifelong best friend, cousin and rabble rouser, C. David McDowell; a son, John K. “JK” Ganey by his wife Keun Jae of Colorado Springs; five  children from a previous marriage, Tina Cumming, Linda Coleman, James  Ganey, Cathy Ganey, and Brenda Delgado, and former wife, Mi Suk Decker of Lexington, NC; ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren,
and their extended family of beloved dogs and cats. Memorials may be made in his honor to the Disabled American Veterans at www. dav.org.
