
Elmer Leon Etheredge, 80, of Olla, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. He was born December 7, 1934 in Caldwell Parish to the union of Elmer and Estelle Collins Etheredge. Leon was a member of Pinehill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the 1951 LaSalle High School state baseball championship team, as well as a member of the football team. He graduated from LHS in 1953. Leon made his lifelong career working for Zapata Offshore in the oilfield. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31, from the sanctuary of Pinehill Baptist Church with Rev. Edward Smith officiating and Bro. Warren Maxwell delivering the eulogy. Interment followed in Pinehill Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, E. L. Etheredge.
Survivors include his wife, two weeks short of 60 years, Jerry McCartney Etheredge of Olla; two sons, Leon Etheredge, Jr. and Rickey Etheredge, both of Olla; daughter, Cheryl Ruddell of Olla; and two grandchildren, Nathan Ruddell and fiancé Rudi Aycock, and Hannah Ruddell, all of Olla. Pallbearers were Glen Henderson, Justin Hines, Ethan Wells, Josh Sims, Mike Gilliam, and Mike Dunn. Honorary pallbearers were the Urania Knotheads
