Acie Earl Slaughter

Acie Earl Slaughter passed from this life on Friday, July 18, 2014, at the age of 100. He was born February 4, 1914 near White Sulphur Springs in LaSalle Parish to the union of his parents, Jessie Gill and Kathryn Edmonia
LaCroix Slaughter. Mr. Slaughter worked in the log woods of LaSalle and Catahoula Parishes, raised cattle, farmed and retired from the Catahoula Parish School Board as a bus driver. He enjoyed his “hunter’s paradise” in the Harrisonburg Hills. He was a member of Meyers Bend Pentecostal Church and helped build their first church building in the 1930’s. Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 21, at Harrisonburg Cemetery with the Revs. W. R. “Bill” Cotton, John Barker and Jeffery Slaughter officiating. Interment followed under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nettie Gauthier Slaughter; two infant children; sisters, Hazel Carmichael and Vivian Meyers; and brothers, John P. Slaughter, James Slaughter, and Ayliff Otto “Dick” Slaughter. Survivors include his children, Leo Perry Slaughter and wife Gail, Everett Earl Slaughter and wife Mary, and Kathryn Wood and husband Kenneth; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his special nephew, E. C. “Sonny” Meyers, and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Justin Sanson, Vince Gallent, John Meyers, Jack Jackson, John Barker and Otis Nugent. Honorary pallbearers were Zack Meyers and J. L. Baker.
