Isaac “Ike” E. Robertson

Isaac “Ike” Edward Robertson, 93, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Monday, February 24, 2014 in Jonesville. He was born March 13, 1920 in Sharptown in LaSalle Parish, to the union of Elijah Sparks Robertson and Janie Collins Robertson. Mr. “Ike” was a graduate of Block High School, NSU and earned his Masters degree from LSU. He was a part of our “Greatest Generation” as a World War II bomber pilot of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. Mr. “Ike” piloted 30 missions over Europe as Captain of the 379th Bomb Group during WWII. Those flights earned him the Air Force Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, awarded to recognize single acts of merit of heroism or for meritorious service. Mr. “Ike” returned from service and married his bride of 65 years, Georgia Bradford Robertson, who preceded him in death. He was known as a much-loved teacher at Block High School where he taught Agriculture, Chemistry and Physics. He served as a deacon at Evangeline Baptist Church and was a member of the Gideon International. His pride and joy was his family. Services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Evangeline Baptist Church of Wildsville with Rev. Joey Paul officiating. Interment followed in the Evangeline Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, Christopher Taylor; a great granddaughter, Christian Jeanfreau; five brothers, Robert Robertson, John Robertson, Benjimen Robertson, Rufus Robertson, and Hardy “Bud” Robertson; and three sisters, Lula R. Whitard, Caroline R. Thompson and Rowena “Doll” R. Breithaupt. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra R. Taylor and husband Mike of Pineville, Susanne R. Routon and husband Ron of Wildsville, and Paula R. Aitken and husband Tommy of Monroe; a sister, Josephine R. Breithaupt of Jena; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Taylor Jeanfreau and husband Andre, Sean Taylor and wife Becky, Shana Shirley Veade and husband Derek, Landon Shirley, Jacob Aitken and wife Meredith, Megan Aitken Dunkelberger and husband Kyle, and Aaron Aitken; and nine great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Sean Taylor, Landon Shirley, Jacob Aitken, Aaron Aitken, Andre Jeanfreau, Derek Veade, and Kyle Dunkelberger.
