
Blake “PawPaw” Sims, 77, of Olla, passed from this life on Sunday, February 23, 2014, at University Health Hospital in Shreveport. He was born September 16, 1936 in Olla to the union of his parents, Major and Hallie Sims.
Blake retired after 38 years as a teacher and coach at Olla-Standard Elementary School. He was a Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Olla where he served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved watching his grandchildren play ball and also loved to take them hunting and fishing. In his retirement, Blake loved raising cows and baling hay. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Olla with the Revs. Johnnie Phillips and Milton Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. Blake was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ann Sims of Olla; one son, Joel Sims and wife Jackie of Olla; one daughter, Kristy Curry and husband Kelly of Tuscaloosa, AL; his mother, Hallie Sims of Olla; one sister, Sue Winberry of Olla; five grandchildren, Josh Sims, Macie Rogers, Hunter Sims, Kendall Curry and Kelsey Curry; and one great grandson, Brady Rogers. Pallbearers will be Keith Ray Ruddell, Mike Dunn, Collin Stringer, Nathan Ruddell, Jacob Roark, and Bob Allbritton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church in Olla. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
