Zula Vee Coon

Zula Vee Coon, 79, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. She was born November 17, 1934 in Winnfield to the union of her parents, Frank Allen and Odelle Maloy Gray. Mrs. Coon was a longtime member of Fellowship Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher for the adult ladies class and sang in the church choir. She was a bookkeeper for a drug store. Her hobbies were her grandchildren. She was the matriarch of the family. Whenever anyone needed anything, she was the “go to person”. She was loving, generous and compassionate to the needs of others. Services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Randy Ray officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah-Fellowship Community under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marlene Woodruff; two brothers, Jerry Allen and Terry Allen; and a grandson, Craig Allen Bond. Survivors include her husband, Otha Lavon Coon of Jena; one daughter, Joy Bond of Jena; grandson, Brian David Bond of Jena; and five grandchildren, Riley Bond, Cameron Bond, Samuel Bond, Laci Bond, and Kassi Bond. Pallbearers were Clyde Crooks, John Parker, Jack Zeagler, Joe Tarpley, Allen Craig, and Lester Floyd. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Fellowship Baptist Church.
