“Sonny” Thompson

Julian “Sonny” Thompson, Jr., 77, of the Walters Community in lower LaSalle Parish, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born March 28, 1939 to the union of his parents, Charlie Arlene and Julian “Dub” Thompson, Sr.

Sonny was an oilfield man, fisherman, and cattleman. He loved being Captain of dredge boats.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17, at Mt. Herman Baptist Church in the Walters Community with Rev. Larry Whittington officiating.

Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery in the Nebo Community under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria.

He was preceded in death by his son, Grady Justin Thompson; his parents; and one sister, Nita Dayton.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jeanette Thompson; son, Julian Thompson and wife Misty; sisters, Norma Ducote and Diane Valentine; sister-in-law, Johnnie Whatley; brothers-in-law, Gary Whatley and Jim Corley; two special girls, Anna and Little Sunny; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and extended family.

Pallbearers were Alan Dayton, Tommy Joe McClure, Riley Lenard, Donnie Valentine, Shannon Valentine, Chance Birkicht, Rowdy Ryland, and David Cooper.

Honorary pallbearers were Gary Whatley, Logan Whatley, J. C. Thompson, Chuck Chevallier, Cody Ryland, Paul McClure, Bill Edmonds, C. J. Chevallier, Lester Hailey, Lane Windham and Keven Webb.
