Marjorie Berlene Watson, 92, a lifelong resident of Rosefield Community, crossed over to her heavenly reward on Friday July 20, 2018, at LaSalle Nursing Home in Jena.
Mrs. Watson was born in Rosefield on August 8, 1925, to the union of William Alfred Guyon, Sr. and Fannie Sones.
Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 23, at Rosefield Baptist Church with the Revs. Mickey Hudnall and Patrick Willis officiating.
Interment followed in the Rosefield Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 60 years, Harold B. Watson; brothers, A. J. Guyon, Alton Guyon, and Harron Guyon; and sisters, Maxine Girod and Cora Lee Swafford.
Left to cherish her memory are sons, Kenneth H. Watson and wife Debbie of Pineville, and Danny W. Watson and wife Cindy of Bossier City; daughters, Laura Cassels and husband Dennis of Grayson, and Tammie McCormack and husband Billy of Alexandria; brother, William Alfred Guyon, Jr. of Pineville; sisters, Alice Ogden of Harrisonburg, and Joy Tarver of Enterprise.
Pallbearers were Quincy Girod, Chance Baum, John Ogden, Matthew McDowell, Josh McCormack, and Doug Self.

Walter Breithaupt

Walter Breithaupt, 81, of Jena, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center in Thibodaux. He was born May 9, 1937 in Jena to the union of his parents, Robert and Ethel Cooper Breithaupt. Walter was an SP 4 engineer and worked for the State of Louisiana Department of Highways. He was a farmer, avid fisherman, and he loved cooking, camping and working in his garden, and is a former member of Shady Grove United Pentecostal Church of Nebo. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 27, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Gary Norris and Joey Paul officiating. Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Robert Breithaupt and Otis “Leon” Breithaupt; and sister, Colleen Breithaupt. Those left to cherish in his memory include his daughters, Colleen Knox and husband James of Houma, and Linda Hudnall and husband Kenny of Jena; sisters, Lou Robertson of Jena and Effie Bradford of Montgomery, TX; grandson, Rodney Knox; and great granddaughter, Landyn Knox. Pallbearers were Ricky Otwell, Ben Otwell, Wesley Otwell, Bobby Davis, Rodney Knox and Steven Breithaupt.

Judy Graham, 56, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. She was born November 13, 1961 to the union of her parents, Ollie and Marguerite Carlisle Courtney. Judy was a homemaker and loved her husband and family. In her pastime, she loved to work puzzles. Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 28, at Christ Temple Pentecostal Church in Jena with the Revs. Zach Wells and David “Sonny” Carlisle officiating. Interment followed in the Graham Cemetery of Nebo under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Kathy Carroll and Pennie Courtney; and a brother, Eddie Courtney. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, William ‘Guy Buck’ Graham; a son, Royce and wife Ashley; a sister, Connie Zocher and husband Mark; a brother, Royce Courtney; and one grandchild, Shelton Blake.

Pearl Allbritton LaCour, 82, of Haughton, and a native of Tullos, passed from this life on Thursday, July 26, 2018 in Shreveport. She was born July 8, 1936 in Tullos to Jesse and Pearl Allbritton. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 29, at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel with Bro. Robert Batchelor and Jeff Sandifer officiating. Interment followed in Hill Crest Memorial Park under direction of Dignity Memorial Funeral Home of Haughton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Long LaCour; son, Duane LaCour; parents; and ten brothers and sisters. Survivors include two sons, Reggie LaCour and wife Rita, and Lowal LaCour; daughter, Pam Spayth and husband Tom; grandchildren, Ryan and Ronnie LaCour, and Seth and Colton Spayth; great-grandson, Nate LaCour; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Pallbearers were Andy Roberts, Ronny Steele, Sherman McCarty, Herman McCarty, Kenneth Phillips, and Jimmy Phillips. Memorials may be made to Overcoming Faith Church in Benton, LA.

Evelyn Estelle Mitchell, 80, of Belah, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 in LaSalle Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was born September 12, 1937 to the union of her parents, Burley and Roberta Tarver Corley. Evelyn was a devoted church worker and a devoted Christian. She was a member of the McVay Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, and spending time with her beloved family. Mrs. Mitchell was a dispatcher for the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Department and Pineville Police Department for many years. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 27, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with Jerry Cole, Kendal Price and Randy Ray officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Matthew Corley, Verla Stringer, and Lewis Corley; and a special niece, Robin Slack. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss are her husband, Dale Mitchell of Belah; a son, Tim Mitchell and wife Theresa; her sisters, Verna Appleby and husband Bill, Linda Nolker, and Bess Slack; a brother, Harold Corley and wife Nelda; two grandchildren, Cody Mitchell and Mathew Mitchell; and two great-grandchildren, Nate Mitchell and Addi Mitchell. Interment followed in Woodland Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lialah Celeste Whittington; great grandparents, Ronnie and Shawn Tarver; grandfather, Roger Boyette; great-great uncle, Steven Kyle Jones; and great grandmother, Mary Kennedy. Those left to cherish in his memory include his parents; sisters, Leah Elizabeth Whittington, and Laylah Celeste Humphries; grandparents, Scotty and Amy Taylor of Trout, Kristy and Bo Smith of Urania, and Kevin and Jessica Humphries of Jena; great grandparents, Alice and Randy Sharp of Rhinehart, Glen Humphries of Alexandria, and Sherry and Harold Kelly of West Monroe; and great-great grandmother. Lottie Lorene “Rat” Cockerham, 85, of the Old River Community, was received into heaven on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, She was born Wednesday, April 26, 1933 to the union of Truman and Daisy Crooks Breithaupt. Mrs. Cockerham was a life-time member of Pritchard Baptist Church. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 27, in Pritchard Baptist Church in the Old River Community with the Revs. Terry Doughty, Gary Norris and Johnnie Phillips officiating. Interment followed in Hawthorne Cemetery near Trout under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 57 years, Conrad Glynn “Teet” Cockerham; her parents; a sister, Ruth McMillin; and a grandson, Beau Alan Stapleton. She is survived by her three daughters, Sharon Corley and husband Tillman, Glenda Stapleton and husband Dub, and Sandra Cooper and husband Rusty; brothers, Travis Breithaupt, L.V. “Pete” Breithaupt and Lloyd Breithaupt; sisters, Natalie Zygmuntowicz, Pat Henderson and Joyce Willis; grandchildren, Chad Stapleton (Marsha), Jessica Neal (Heath), Betsy Warwick (Bren), Seth Corley (Jessica), Luke Stapleton (Jessi), Dustin Cooper (LaRay) and Malcolm Cooper (Victoria); 17 great grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Jennie Belle White, 81, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. She was born on Monday, September 28, 1936 in Natchez, Mississippi, to the union of her parents, Carl and Daisy Harper. Jennie retired from teaching in the Catahoula Parish School System and founded the Bread Crumb. She was a resident of Jonesville and a member of Utility Baptist Church. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, at Utility Baptist Church with the Revs. Ralph Webber and Mike Russell officiating. Interment will follow at Parhams Cemetery under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, DuWayne White; granddaughter, Casey White; and sister, Winona Elias. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Clifford White of Jonesville; son, Ervin White and wife Jan of Wildsville; daughter, Mary Pentecost and husband Charles of Manifest; son, Danny White of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren, Jason Meyers and wife Janet, Cliff White, Josh White, Tina Pentecost, Luke Pentecost and wife Kandi, Kristen Johnson and husband Derek and Thomas White; 18 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Charles E. Taylor

Charles Edgar Taylor, of Jena, died Sunday, July 22, 2018, after a long and valiant battle against rheumatoid arthritis and its ravages, at the age of 74 years and 10 months. He was born on September 19, 1943 near Jonesville, to the union of Lee Edgar and Mary Tolar Taylor. Charles was a truck driver in the oil industry for 32 years, and was respected by all who knew him. He was a man of simple tastes. In healthier times he took great pleasure in gardening, woodworking, deer hunting with dogs, and fishing with his family. His children cherish the memories made as they spent many hours white perch fishing in the lakes and bayous near their home in Jonesville. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 27, at First Baptist Church in Jena with Jerry Gurie giving the opening prayer, Rev. Terry Townsend reading scripture, Rev. Johnnie Phillips sharing some thoughts, and message by Rev. Dominick DiCarlo, FBC pastor. Ron Carr led in the closing prayer. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant son. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 54 years, Patty Lou Crooks Taylor of Jena; his children, daughter, Ashley Gibson and husband Jimmy of Jena; son, Adam Taylor and wife Tish of Jena; sister, Marie Towell and husband Gail of Jonesville; nephew, Chris Towell and wife Chantel of Jonesville; four grandchildren: Justin, Jarrett and Jedd Gibson, Will Budemer; and one great grandchild: Maddie Gibson. Honorary pallbearers included his nephews, Chris Towell, Cliff Smith, David Roberts, Brandon Warwick, Rhett Messer, Rob Little, Bob Clift, Stephen Crooks, Timmy Elliott, Keith Elliott, Dennis Elliott, Paul Bell, Kenny Bell, and Jim Bell. Lifetime friends honored to serve include: Jerry Gurie, Conley Manning, Melvin Purvis, Johnny Wilson, Robin Francis, and Brandon Phan. Memorial donations may be made to the future education facility fund at First Baptist Church in Jena.

Robert Keith Stringer

Robert Keith Stringer, 60, of Natchitoches, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, July 17, 2018. He was born February 7, 1958 in Natchitoches to the union of his parents, Cecil and June Barker Stringer. Robert was a graduate of Natchitoches Academy. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time outdoors, particularly in Kisatchie National Forest. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandson, Kane. Robert was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 21, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. Interment followed in the Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches. He is survived by his son, Kyle Stringer and wife Nicole of Natchitoches; parents, Cecil and June Stringer of Natchitoches and formerly of Jena; grandson, Robert Kane Stringer; sisters, Karen Harkins and husband Steve of Natchitoches, Mary Wright and husband Jock of Wilton, CT, and Suzie Sheppard and husband David of Enterprise, AL; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Alice “Linda” Clingan, 85, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Friday, August 3, 2018 in Jonesville. She was born Friday, November 4, 1932 in Utility to the union of her parents, Houston O. Boyd, Sr. and Martha Oneal Boyd. Linda was a resident of Jonesville, a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and retired from the Catahoula Parish School System as a lunchroom worker at Block High School. She was an avid gardener, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who loved to cook for her family and friends. Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 6, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in the Sandy Lake Community with the Revs. Mickey Hudnall, Dustin Robertson, and David Richmond officiating. Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery at Rhinehart under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Curtis Doughty; grandson, Israel Boothe; four brothers, Lloyd Boyd, H. O. Boyd, Jr., A. D. Boyd, and Joe Boyd; and two sisters, Doris Hennigan and Olivia Boyd Wiley. William Rand “Billy” Smith, 53, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, August 2, 2018, at the Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans following a brief illness. He was born January 4, 1965. Billy was a member of Searcy Baptist Church and was employed in the telecommunication field as a telephone technician. He liked guns and was an avid sportsman. Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 6, at Searcy Baptist Church with the Revs. Reid Terry, Steve Jones, and Johnnie Phillips officiating. Interment followed in the Smith Family Cemetery of Jena under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his mother, Aldis Boyd Smith; and a sister Monty Lanier. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Loretta Smith of Jena; daughter, Emmalee Smith of Jena; son, Will Smith of Thibodaux; sister, Mary Jo Poole of Thibodaux; and his father, Freddie Rand “Sonny” Smith. Rita N. Guin Shelton, 64, of Tullos, passed from this life on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. Rita loved to cook, loved animals and her family. Services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 2, at Tullos United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Bruce Maxwell, E. R. Johnson and Shelton Guin officiating. Interment followed in the Georgetown Cemetery in Georgetown under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by father, Clarence Guin; mother, Mary Edith Guin; and brother, Clarence Wayne Guin. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Richard William Shelton; children, Marida Shelton McDaniel, Stephanie Shelton, Andy Palmer, and John David Palmer; two brothers, Shelton Ray Guin and Joel Maurice Guin; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was born September 10, 1928 in Selma to the union of her parents, James and Callie Hennigan Graves. Mrs. Lincecum was a homemaker and a member of the Lincecum Baptist Church. Services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 9, at Lincecum Baptist Church of Pollock with Rev. Jim Wingeart officiating. Interment followed in the Lincecum Cemetery of Pollock under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gordon “Bill” Lincecum; sisters, Doris, Ivy, Leota, Opha, Katie and Jimmy. Those left to cherish in her memory include her daughter, Sandra Wilson of Georgetown; sisters, Bobbie and Ruth; brothers, Charlie, J. B., and John T.; grandsons, Charles and Allen; and a host of nieces and nephews, especially Mary Jane and Buddy Wilson, whom she thought of as her kids and loved so very much. Serving as pallbearers were the men of Lincecum Baptist Church.

Flora Belle McCarthy, 85, of the Sandy Lake Community of Catahoula Parish passed from this life on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in Sandy Lake. She was born November 13, 1932 to the union of her parents, Rev. A.  B. Masters, Sr. and Susie Morris Masters. Mrs. McCarthy was a homemaker and a very loving mother, grandmother and friend to all. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 9, at End of The Trail Cemetery in Sandy Lake with Rev. Joel Ford officiating. Interment followed under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie McCarthy; son, Michael Edward McCarthy; her parents; brothers, Johnny Masters, William L. Masters and James S. Masters. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Delores McEntyre and Charlotte McMillian, both of Sandy Lake; son, Mark McCarthy of Sandy Lake; brothers, A. B. Masters, Jr. and Otis Masters, both of Columbia; as well as 27 grandkids, six great grandkids and one great great grandkid. Pallbearers were Cody Johnson, Chris Shivers, Chad McCarthy, Billy Masters, Merthyr Mount and Colby Mount. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Coleman, James McCarthy and Billy Joe McMillian.

Everett Stanfield, 83, of Trout, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. He was born August 26, 1934. Mr. Stanfield served in the United States Army during his young life and also worked as an E.M.T. during his working career. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren and family. Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 11, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with Rev. Clyde Gremilion officiating. Interment with full military honors followed in the Belah Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanette Lorine Schatzle Stanfield; son, Terry Stanfield; brothers, Charlie Stanfield and Herbert Stanfield; four sisters, Ionie Bell, Inez Stanfield, Irene Stanfield, and Pauline Morris; and son-in-law, James Atkins. Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory are his daughters, Rhonda Floyd and husband Lester of Trout, Lorri Atkins of Summerville, Tina Ducote and husband David of Pineville, and Kathy Stanfield; and one son, David Stanfield and wife Robyn of Ville Platte.

Betty Jane Walters

Betty Jane Walters, 87, of Olla, passed from this life on August 11, 2018, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. She was born on Sunday, October 26, 1930, to the union of her parents, Edgar H. Kirkham and Minnie L. Ratcliff Kirkham. As a direct descendent of a charter member, she was a lifetime and faithful member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She was also a first grade teacher in the LaSalle Parish School System. In her efforts to be the best teacher she could be, she acquired a Bachelor’s, Master’s Degree, and +30 hours in Education, and retired with over 30 years of service teaching children to read and write. She was a dedicated wife, and a supportive, attentive, and loving mother to her four children. Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church near Olla with the Revs. Gary Norris and Joel Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Harris Chapel Cemetery near Olla under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Enola K. Sanders. She is survived by her husband of over 70 years, Charles J. She was born in Jena on March 1, 1938 to the union of her parents, Hubert and Alice Mitchell.

Mrs. Campbell owned and operated JJ’s Restaurant near Jena for over 20 years.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 18, from the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Brothers Rod Smith and Jerry Cole officiating.

Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah Community under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Wayne Mitchell and Max Mitchell; aunt and best friend, Jesse Marie Coleman.

Those left to cherish in her memory include son, Doug Campbell and wife Tracy of Jena; daughter, Rhea Tannehill and husband Nick of Jena; brother, Dale Mitchell of Belah; sister, Diane Jones of Searcy; sister-in-law, Virginia Mitchell of Jena; grandchildren, Alexis Orgeron and husband Tylon, Sydney Campbell and Nicholas Tannehill, Jr.

Pallbearers were Brandon Jones, Chad Jones, Gerald Mitchell, Ben Rabel, Thomas Rabel, and Stephen Mitchell.

Honorary pallbearer was her grandson, Nicholas Tannehill, Jr.

William Brett Cooper

William Brett Cooper, 50, of Jena, passed from this life suddenly on Thursday August 16, 2018, in the Belah Community.

Brett, as he was affectionately known to all, was a mechanic in the automotive industry. He was an avid motorcycle rider and loved his bikes.

He was a “gentle giant” and had a great love for his family. He was an individual known by everyone in town. He will certainly be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Trinity Baptist Church near Jena with the Revs. Mike Russell and Johnnie Phillips officiating.

Interment will follow in the Summerville Baptist Church Cemetery in the Summerville Community under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Freddie and Gracie Ainsworth, and Henry and Polly Cooper.

Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss are his son, Ty Cooper of Jena; his father, Skeet Cooper of Jena; mother, Brenda Gail Johnston; step-mother, Roselea Cooper of Jena; special friend, Brenda Evans Warwick of Belah; one brother, Todd Cooper and wife Tabatha of Jena.

Nelda Nugent

Nelda Elaine Nugent, 81, of Urania, passed from her life on this earth, Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. She was a resident at LaSalle Nursing Home.

She was born October 7, 1936 in Urania to the union of Henry and Mildred Lee.

Mrs. Nugent retired from the LaSalle Parish School System after serving as custodian at Olla Elementary School in Olla.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 20, at the Urania First Baptist Church with pastor Rev. Bo Prather officiating.

Interment followed in the Urania Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bobby Ray Nugent; and her son, Bobby Glynn Nugent.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Sage and husband Charlie of Buckner, MO; two granddaughters, Morgan Roark of Urania, and Mindy Svoboda and husband Jheren of Anchorage, AK; five great-grandchildren, Dannen, Kailee, Aubree, Jude, and Paxson; one sister, Kay Kilburn of Dumas, AR; two brothers, Larry Lee of Urania, and Jimmy Lee and wife Beverly of McKinney, TX.

Pallbearers were Jeff Wyles, Billy Ray Tatum, Karl Doughty, Denny Boyett, Mike Barber, and Damin Dozier.

Dannen Roark served as an honorary pallbearer.
