Cheryl Ellen Poole, 78, of Natchitoches, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, in Shreveport.

She was born November 5, 1938 in Olla to the union of her parents, Arthur and Ruth Dollar.

Mrs. Poole was a member of First Baptist Church of Natchitoches, and many clubs, such as the Wild Flower Society of Natchitoches, Red Hat Society and Eastern Star of Jena. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was an accountant and she obtained her Accounting and Business degree from Louisiana Business College. She enjoyed many years as the assisstant Manager of Gulfco Finance Company and also enjoyed traveling, RVing and Square dancing.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 19, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Tommy Rushing officiating.

Interment followed in the Wilbanks Cemetery in the Summerville Community under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milton Vannah Poole; brother, Duval Dollar; and sister, Sandra Joy Vestal.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Jeffrey Lane Willis of Southlake, TX and Jack Scott of Chehalis, WA; step-children, Pam and Ralph Davis, Larry, Jeffrey, Gary and Cindy Poole; and grandson, Daniel Willis of Wichita, KS.

Pallbearers were Chance Willis, Lyle Ganey, Cale Willis, Jeffrey Black, Darrel McCartney and Keith Mayo.

Karon Irene Poole Wells, 67, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, June 15, 2017 in Jena.

She was born Sunday, December 25, 1949 in Jena, to the union of Ernest Lavere and Kate Lena Roark Poole.

Services were held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 17, at Christ Temple Pentecostal Church in Jena with with Rev. David Poole officiating.

Interment followed in the Welcome Home Cemetery, east of Grayson, under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lavelle Wells; her parents; her brothers, Alford Poole, Enoch Poole and Bennie Poole; and sisters, Nelda Mitcham and Ineta Brodnax.

Survivors include her daughter, Theresa Lemay; two grandsons, Landon Lemay and Brandon Lemay; a great-granddaughter, Harley Lemay; three brothers, Billy R. Poole, Clifford Poole and Charles “Buddy” Poole; and three sisters, Beth Coleman, Jakki Richardson and Rebecca Beckley.

Pallbearers were Ernest Coleman, Jared Richardson, Kevin Poole, Bradley Poole, Travis Hudson, and Billy Coleman.

Norma Jean Adams

Norma Jean Adams, 77, of Jena, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017, in Jena.

She was born Tuesday, April 9, 1940 in Humphreys County, Tennessee, to the union of Arnold Acey and Mildred Jewel Graves Adams.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 26, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with Revs. Heath Harris and Evelyn Thompson officiating.

Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah-Fellowship Community under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons-in-law, Billy Jack Humphries and Kenneth Scott Owens.

Survivors include daughters, Cathy Humphries of Trout, Carol White of Shreveport, Alice Meyers of Powder Springs, GA, and Marsha Williams of Munford, TN; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Helen Virginia Clauss

Helen Virginia Smith Clauss, 86, of Jena and formerly of Oakdale, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 20, 2017.

She was born Sunday, February 22, 1931 in Glenmora, to the union of Nathan and Cordie Winegart Smith.

Mrs. Clauss was a homemaker and teacher’s aide.

Services were held at 12-noon Thursday, June 22, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with Rev. Gary Norris officiating.

Interment followed in the Oakdale Cemetery in Oakdale under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles G. Clauss; and her daughter-in-law, Robin H. Clauss.

Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Dr. Charles Clauss of Jena, and Craig Clauss of Picayune, MS; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnny Hutchins, Wayne Davis, Joe Jones, and Brandon Jones.

Donald R. Cooper Sr.

Donald Raymond Cooper, Sr., 81, of the Magnolia Community in lower LaSalle Parish, passed from this life suddenly on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at his residence.

He was born August 26, 1935 in Walters to the union of his parents, Julian and Nellie Sanson Cooper.

Donald was employed by Hunt Petroleum and retired as a production superintendent. He also represented his area on the LaSalle Parish School Board for many years during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 26, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Denver McBroom and Mickey Hudnall officiating.

Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery in the Magnolia Community under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Julian Cooper.

Those left to cherish in his memory include his wife, Maxine Russell Cooper; son, Donald Raymond Cooper, Jr. and wife Renee of Sandy Lake Community; daughter, LaDawn C. Edwards and husband Eugene of Jena, brother, Eli Cooper and wife Judy of Jena; sister, Beth Lemmons and husband Donald of Deville; grandchildren, Stephanie McDowell, Kayla Cooper, and Landon Edwards; and great grandchildren, Dylan McDowell, Dawson McDowell and Daylen Husbands.

Pallbearers were Kenny Lonidier, Dave Hudspeth, Reggie Loe, Dennis Moore, Jody Toppanto, Carl Peavy, Mike Russell and Stephen Lemmons.

Myra Maxine Girod

Myra Maxine Girod, 90, of Rosefield, passed from this life on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe.

Maxine, who was lovingly known as “Aunt Mac” or “Granny”, was born January 31, 1927 in Grayson to the union of her parents, William Alfred and Fannie Sones Guyon.

She was a life-long member of Rosefield Baptist Church. She enjoyed living in the Rosefield community and loved the many friends and neighbors she had there. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 26, at Rosefield Baptist Church in Rosefield with Rev. Bubba Tucker officiating.

Interment followed in the Rosefield Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Girod; son, Jeff Girod; and great-granddaughter, Elyssa Reynolds.

Survivors include a son, Quincy Girod and wife Gay of Queen City, TX; a daughter, Carleen Dumas and husband Greg of Calhoun; brother, William A. Guyon, Jr; sisters, Marjorie Watson, Joy Tarver and Alice Ogden; grandchildren, Jamie Girod and wife Heather, Charly Darmstaedter and husband Jon, Severen Girod and wife Lacey, Tara Girod Rape and husband Randy, Jake Dumas, Hannah Thomas and husband Blaze and Anna Girod; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers were Jamie Girod, Severen Girod, Jake Dumas, Jon Darmstaedter, Blaze Thomas and Randy Rape.

Nick B. Harris, 29, of Olla, passed from this life on Monday, June 19, 2017 from injuries he sustained in a traffic accident in the Fishville Community in Grant Parish.

He was born December 9, 1987 in Alexandria.

Nick was a railroad worker for Union Pacific Railroad.

Services were held at 5 p.m., Wednesday, June 21, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Johnnie Phillips and Todd Norris officiating.

Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery in Olla under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

Those left to cherish in his memory include his parents, Dennis and Suzanne Harris of Olla; sister, Summer Pruett and husband Anthony of Jena; niece and “daughter of his heart”, Kealie Brown; grandparents, Vernon B. Harris of Olla, and Jean Norris of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marie Harris and Shelby Norris.

Pallbearers were Anthony Pruett, Bryce Stott, Joe McCartney, Chris Harris, Wes Norris and Dick Zeagler.

Mrs. Katie Adams Jones, 83, of Georgetown, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017.

She was born Wednesday, June 5, 1934 in Sikes, to the union of her parents, Thomas and Mary Ila Boles Adams.

Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was former co-owner of J&K Logging company with her late husband and will be remembered for her love and caring heart for her family and friends. She always enjoyed the holidays and all our gatherings with family and friends. Everyone enjoyed her famous cooking, especially her chicken and dumplings.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 21, at Georgetown Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Griffith officiating.

Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmie Lee Jones; daughter, Jennifer Diane Jones; grandson, Steven Daniel Arledge; siblings, Jack Adams, Marshal Adams, Ferrell Adams, John Adams, Benny Adams, Fannie McCarty, Audie Mayes, Clara Johnson and Carolyn Sanders.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Joey Jones and wife Lea Ann, Helen Black and Margie Adams; grandchildren, Jason Arledge, Nikki Johnson, Shannon Sikes and Shawn Sikes; great-grandchildren, Veronica, Breanna, Aleah, Harley, Jayce, Jacob, Paige, Ariana, Hailey, Emma, Corben and Tommy; four great-great grandchildren; siblings, Pete Adams, Christine Mayes and Allie Vee Thompson.

Johnny Lincecum

John “Johnny” Issac Lincecum, 75, of Jena, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 24, 2017, in Alexandria.

He was born Friday, August 8, 1941 in Georgetown, the son of the late Dan Peach and Noda Bell Nugent Lincecum.

Among the many things that he dearly loved was his family, his church, and working outside in his garden and yard.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, at First Baptist Church of Jena with Rev. Terry Townsend officiating.

Interment followed in the Lincecum Baptist Church Cemetery of Georgetown under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Faye Quaid and Madge Olden; two brothers, Dan P. Lincecum, Jr. and Allen Lincecum.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Connie Adams Lincecum of Jena; two sons, Stacy Lincecum and wife Tina of Georgetown, and Jeffery Shelton and wife Maria of Jena; three daughters, Tammy Lincecum of Georgetown, Karen Armstrong and husband Hunter of Georgetown and Sophie Belgard and husband Avery of Jena; nine grandchildren, Lacey, Gatlin, Savannah, Tristin, Taylor, Kylie, Whit, Presley, and Sydney; five great-grandchildren, Makindlee, Analise, Laney, Hunter, and baby Brantley on the way; and one sister, Coleta Banes and husband Harold of Baton Rouge.

Tamara Gay Smith

Tamara Gay Stroud Brown Smith, 53, of Lexington, Oklahoma passed from this life on April 2, 2017 at Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada, OK, after a lengthy illness.

She was born March 15, 1964 in Shreveport to the union of her parents, Lonnie and Sharon Brown, former residents of Jena.

Tamara was a beautiful, talented person, gifted in so many ways. She is truly missed and loved. Her great grandmother was an original enrollee on the Chickasaw Indians Dawes Roll in Oklahoma.

Her memorial service was held at Wadley’s Funeral Home in Purcell, OK on April 8th.

Survivors include her husband, Roger D. Smith of Lexington, OK; her parents, Lonnie and Sharon Brown of Taylor, AR; daughter, Jennifer Griffin and grandson, Hayden of Norman; brothers, Randall R. Stroud Brown and Lonnie Shane Brown; a sister, Mandi M. Black; and an aunt, Mary Ann Poole of Rosefield.

John Dale Wilder

John Dale Wilder, age 84, of Richardson, Texas, went to be with the Lord on June 9, 2017.

He was born August 29, 1932, in Winnfield, to John William Wilder and Laura (Strother) Wilder.

On July 7, 1962, John married Eulalie “Lee” Vitrano, in New Orleans. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from September 1951, to September 1955, during the Korean War. John was a member of First Baptist Church in Richardson, Texas.

John was known by all who had the joy of spending time with him as a generous, servant-hearted man of the Lord. He graduated from Louisiana Tech with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education. He went on to receive a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education from Tulane University in 1966.

From 1967-1969, John worked as a computer programmer for Chrysler Corp. NASA Division. For the next twenty years, John worked for General Electric in their computer sales Petroleum Division. After retiring from a long and successful corporate career, John returned to what he enjoyed most, teaching. He invested in the lives of many youth, teaching math in an inner-city Dallas high school for seven years.

His love for teaching and his Savior led him to be a dedicated children’s leader through Bible Study Fellowship International for the next 18 years. John was also very active in his Bible Fellowship class at church, through which he volunteered as a Lunch Buddy Mentor with RISD.

John volunteered regularly at Grace Bridge Food Bank, helping serve those less fortunate. No drive was too far, math problem too hard, or need too small for John to help to the best of his ability. For this, he will be remembered and cherished.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 17, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, TX with Dr. Ellis Orozco and Dr. Darold Morgan officiating.

Interment followed in Ridgeview Memorial Park.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Grady Wilder Sr. and Leonard Wilder; and nephew, Grady Wilder Jr.

John is survived by his wife, Lee Wilder of Richardson, TX; children, Jennifer Wilder Heffley and husband Steve of Prosper, TX, and John D. Wilder II and wife Carolyn of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Alyssa and Caitlin Heffley of Prosper, TX, Sidney Wilder of Austin, TX and Sarah Wilder of Dallas, TX; nieces, Diane Shields, Pam Tucker, Pat Peppers, Sandra Johnson, Sherry Wilder, Lori Lorman, and Lisa Vitrano; nephews, David Wilder and Douglas Vitrano; and a host of other loving family and friends.

Norma Jean Bradford

Norma Jean Tolbert Bradford, 73, of Jena, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the Jena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jena.

She was born July 6, 1943 in Catahoula Parish to her parents, Roy Tolbert and Lucille Scarborough Tolbert.

Jean was a lifetime member of Sandy Lake Pentecostal Church. Jean was a woman who was strong in her faith and an overcomer of many obstacles throughout her life.

For years she worked at Davis and Brook’s Pharmacy in Jonesville, and later in life was a waitress at Robin’s Restaurant in Vidalia. She was a loving mother who enjoyed singing, doll collecting, and was a wonderful seamstress. She was loved by all who met her and will be greatly missed.

Services were held Monday, July 3, at Sandy Lake Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Joel Ford and Danny Chance officiating.

Interment followed at Heard Cemetery of Manifest under direction of Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday.

She was preceded in death by her Mother; husband, Clifford C. Bradford; and two brothers, Glenford Tolbert and Lavel Tolbert.

Survivors include her Father, Roy Tolbert of Jena; three children, Gay Smith of Jonesville, Dawn Brown and husband Clifton of Bowling Green, KY, and Tony Mason and wife Ashley of Lake Charles; two brothers, Melvin Tolbert, and J.C. Tolbert and wife Rosie, all of Jonesville; three sisters, Gloria Tucker and husband Gary of Aimwell, Debra Tolbert of Monroe, and Brenda Crager and husband Jim of Logansport; and six grandsons, Bud, Dayton, Tyler, Logan, Zach, and Conner.

Pallbearers were Tony Mason, Dayton Wiley, Bud Ivey, Tyler Ivey, Marion Tolbert and Clifton Brown.

Honorary pallbearers were her two brothers, Melvin Tolbert and J.C. Tolbert.

Phyllis A. Flannigan

Phyllis Asbury Flannigan, 86, of Monroe, passed away on July 1, 2017 in Monroe from complications from dementia.

She was born on June 21, 1931 in Duluth, MN.

Phyllis enjoyed sewing her entire life and watching the Gameshow Network and Dancing with the Stars, especially Derek Hough and the Saints and Drew Brees. Phyllis spent her final months at Avalon Place in Monroe.

Services will be at 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 5, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, 2308 Sterlington Road in Monroe, with Ricky Baker, Chaplain of Louisiana Hospice, officiating.

She was the mother of eight children, four of which preceded her in death- Nancy Edstrom (Ted), Allen Roehl, Lea D. Flannigan and Ricky Flannigan. She was also preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Her four daughters, LuAnn Scarborough (Kenneth), LaVonne (Dolly) Keller, Laurie Correro (Russell) and Tracey Jones, were at her bedside and will forever miss her. Phyllis was also a wonderful grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother to Kenny Scarborough (Melissa), Brittney, Brandy and Kevin, Mike Scarbrough (Teresa), Shane, Crystal and Troy, Tina Mauterer (Jason), many 3 and 4 legged children, Kellie Mauterer-Hall (Jeremy){Rory and Owen}, Kayla Oliver (Joshua) {Parker and unborn child Logan}, Alexis Ricaud, Jennifer Perez (Jr.) {Christina, g-g-Jayden, Dante and Daylin}, Joshua Roark, Katie Roark and Nathan Jones, Chris Flannigan, Erika Flannigan {James, Edmund and Beto}, Angel Batiste (Deon) {Serenity and Sebastian}. She is also survived by many friends and relatives whom she loved very much; Alfred Ryder and his family were close to her heart, but most of all her beloved cat Teddy.

Mary Ann Sagdahl, 82, of Tullos, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 1, 2017 in Jena.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, John Donald Rankin.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 63 years, Quentin Francis “Fritz” Sagdahl of Tullos; two daughters, Mary Francis Clements and husband Kellam of Imperial, MO and Kellie Ann Harris and husband Chip of Hattiesburg, MS; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a brother, Leonard Rankin and wife Ann of Tullos.

Scherry Coldiron Case, 67, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Monday, July 3, 2017, at The Columns Nursing Home in Jonesville. She was born November 5, 1949 in Jonesville to the union of her parents, Johnnie and Edna Wade Coldiron. Scherry was a member of Wallace Ridge Pentecostal Church and a former member of Lake Lilly and Grace Baptist Church. She worked for fifteen years as a Special Education Teacher’s Aide for Catahoula Parish Schools and also worked for fifteen years, at the Catahoula Parish Library for a total of 30 years. She enjoyed gardening, reading, walking, hunting, fishing, traveling and sightseeing. She received the most joy by spending time with her family while drinking a cup of coffee. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 7, at Wallace Ridge Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Frank Bass and Todd Tucker officiating. Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery of Manifest under direction of Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmy Case; one son, Justin B. Case; one brother, Randy Coldiron; and one nephew, Andy Coldiron. She is survived by her two sons, Todd Case of Aimwell, and Britt Case and wife Judy of Harrisonburg; four brothers, Johnnie Coldiron and wife Becky of Sicily Island, Russell Coldiron of Jonesville, Larry Coldiron of Jonesville, and Maxie Coldiron and wife Cheryl of Vidalia; five granddaughters, Emily, Megan, Havana, Natalie, and Navie; and five grandsons, Travis, Tyler, Randy, Evan, and Greyson; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Susan Weaver Henry, 57, of Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at her residence. She was born on September 17, 1959 in Jena. Susan was employed in home health care services. She was an excellent seamstress and avid Beatles fan. She loved gardening, crafting, and spending time with her children, granddaughter, and beloved dog, Faith. Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 5, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Johnnie Phillips officiating. Interment followed in the Chalk Hill Cemetery in the Little Creek Community under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ethel and John Taylor, and father, Hilton L. Weaver, Sr. Survivors include her daughter, Sarah Webb of Houston, TX; son, Steven Webb of Monroe; one granddaughter, Ava Magee of Huffman, TX; mother, Betty Weaver of Jena; sister, Anita Devillier of Beaumont, TX; brothers, Justin Weaver, Rocky Weaver and wife Vicki, and Hilton Weaver, Jr. and wife Becky, all of Jena; and several adored nieces and nephews. Mildred Ruth Paul LeMay went home to be with the Heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 in Jonesville. She was born Saturday, August 24, 1940 to the union of Leslie Earl, Sr. and Lois Huffman Paul. Ruth spent most of her life in LaSalle Parish with the exception of a time spent in Scotland, Greece, and Indonesia as her husband worked in the oil industry. She spent a number of years as a cook on a towboat and was involved in a number of other home-based businesses. Services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 6, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Larry Chapman officiating. Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allen LeMay; and three brothers, Johnny Murrel Paul, Earl Paul, Jr. and Aubrey Paul. She is survived by one daughter Kathy Le- May of Jonesville; one son Terry LeMay of Jena; four grandchildren, Dr. Tia M. Neal and husband Cole of Jonesville, Chad Morris and wife Mindy of Monterey, Brandon LeMay and wife Tiffany of Jena, and Landon LeMay; five great-grandchildren, Chandler Burgess, Amelia Neal, Ryder Grace Morris, Harley LeMay, Saylor Faith Morris, and soon to be born, Dakota LeMay. Pallbearers were Brandon LeMay, Landon LeMay, Chad Morris, Chandler Burgess, Cole Neal, and Marshall Chapman.

Robert Allen Clark

Robert Allen Clark, 70, went to his heavenly home on Friday, July 7, 2017. He was born May 11, 1947 in Winnfield, the son of Charles E. Clark, Sr. and Erma Drucilla Allbritton Clark. Robert spent his younger years in Winnfield, graduating from Winnfield High School in 1965. After graduating from high school, he started a job in Lafayette, where he met his wife of 50 years, Beverly Hayes Clark. They went on to share a life of traveling, spending time with his children and grandchildren, and pursuing business ventures in Lincoln Parish and LaSalle Parish. Services were held at 3 p.m., Monday, July 10, at Calvary Baptist Church, west of Tullos, with Rev. Dick DeBusk officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Mildred Tullos Rooney; his brothers, Charles Clark, Jr., Melvin Clark, Bill Clark, Jimmy Clark, and Jerry “Poochie” Clark. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beverly Hayes Clark; his daughters, Christine Clark O’Quain and Carolyn Clark Jarmon and husband Jimmy, all of Choudrant; his grandchildren, Charles Younse, Holly Younse, Blake Ambrose, and Amy Ambrose, all of Choudrant; his great grand-children Allison, Shelby, Alice, and twins on the way; and his sisters, Glenda Pendarvis and Louise Sweat. Willie Oscar “W.O.” Holmes

Willie Oscar “W.O.” Holmes, 83 of Tullos, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017. He was born Monday, May 14, 1934, in Winnfield, to the union of his parents, Walter Clayton and Ola Mae Bruce Holmes. “W.O.” was retired from Huey P. Long Vocational School and served in the US Army from 1956-58. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 11, at Calvary Baptist Church, west of Tullos, with Rev. Dick DeBusk officiating. Interment followed in the Beech Creek Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond Holmes and Jimmy Holmes; grandson, Clayton Thomas Holmes; and great granddaughter, Maci Alexander Holmes. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Nina Tidwell Holmes; children, Tommy Holmes (Tammy), Jimmy Holmes (Joan) and Rebecca Bruce (Carl); grandchildren, Jason Holmes (Kim), Jarrod Holmes (Danielle), Caleb Bruce, Cole Bruce (Sarah), Chrystal Holmes and Misty Holmes; great grandchildren, Carter Drake Holmes, Justin Pendarvis, Christian Bonnette and Karmen Holmes; great-great grandchild, Haylen Pendarvis; brother, Jerry W. Holmes (Lawanda); and brother-in-law, Coston Tidwell (Rose Marie). Pallbearers were Jason Holmes, Jerrod Holmes, Caleb Bruce, Cole Bruce, James Wilson, AJ Wilson, Austin Torres and Jody Kendrick. Honorary pallbearers were Carl Bruce, Bruce Cockerham and Jim Hudson.

Mary Ann Sagdahl

Mary Ann Sagdahl, 82, of Tullos, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 1, 2017 in Jena. She was born Friday September 28, 1934 in Tullos, to the union of William and Julia Steen Rankin. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 12, at the First Baptist Church of Tullos. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, John Donald Rankin. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 63 years, Quentin Francis “Fritz” Sagdahl of Tullos; two daughters, Mary Francis Clements and husband Kellam of Imperial, MO and Kellie Ann Harris and husband Chip of Hattiesburg, MS; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a brother, Leonard Rankin and wife Ann of Tullos.
