Billye Bankston Graham, 78, of Nebo, passed from this life on Saturday, April 22, in Nebo.

She was born September 29, 1938 in Harrisonburg to the union of her parents, Owen and Clara Bankston.

Billye was a longtime active member of Nebo Baptist Church, and graduate of Harrisonburg High School. She was a homemaker, artist, floral designer, and animal lover.

She worked at many florist shops and designed and decorated a float for a Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 25, at Nebo Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew Murrell officiating.

Interment followed in Graham Cemetery in the Nebo Community under direction of Griffin Funeral Home of West Monroe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lila Mae Gaultreaux; and a granddaughter, Krystle Berry.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, James Graham of Nebo; two sons, Alan Graham and wife Mickey and David Graham and wife Irma; daughter, Kathy Graham Brown; nine grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jacob Graham, Jeremy Graham, Shauna Thompson, Savanna Brown, Brodie Berry, and Chevy Berry.

Ruth Marie Graham

Ruth Marie Graham, 87, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed from this life on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

She was born May 29, 1929 in Pittsburg, PA, to the union of her parents, Henry William and Nina Gongaware Wilson.

Mrs. Graham was a domestic housekeeper.

Funeral visitation was held Wednesday, April 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harold Graham; her parents; son, Timothy Homer; brother, Ray Wilson; and sisters, Clara, Loine, Sandy, Judy, and Florence.

Survivors include her son, Mark Allen Graham of Midway; daughter, Robin Weir of Midway; brothers, George Wilson and Paul Wilson, both of Ellwood, PA; sisters, Helen Wiley of Ellwood, PA, Nina Wiley of Castlewood, PA, and Mary Ann Minter of Shenago, PA; three grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Joseph Picard

Joseph “Joe” Picard, 79, of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Jena Nursing and Rehab facility in Jena.

He was born February 1, 1938 to the union of his parents, Olive and Louis Picard in Franklin, Louisiana, and was baptized at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Franklin. He became a member of Midway Baptist Church, Jena in 2008.

Joe suffered polio as a child and a stroke at the age of 18. Even with these drawbacks, he began working for the St. Mary Parish School Board in 1977 as a custodian at Centerville. Joe moved with friends from Franklin to Olla, in 1989, following oil field and other odd jobs until his health deteriorated and he was no longer able to take care of himself.

Joe entered the LaSalle Nursing home in late 1999 and moved to Jena Nursing and Rehab (JNRH) in 2009. He never met a stranger and JNRH was his home and the residents were his family.

Joe was predeceased by all nine members of his family including his parents, brothers, Louis, Harry, Henry and William, and sisters, Louise, Marion and Esther; and by his dear friend, Sybil Methvin.

He leaves special friends Elzie Smith, Sallie Smith Thornhill and Sheldon Boothe, Gloria Ainsworth and Will and Linda Butler, all of Jena; special niece, Mary LaJaunie and cousin, Adam Picard, Sr., of Franklin to mourn his passing.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, at JNRH with Midway Baptist Church Pastor Daniel Breithaupt officiating.

For memorials, please remember Joe with a smile and a laugh and a “Hello, how Y’all Doin’” to everyone you meet, or buy yourself an LSU hat, or put an LSU flag on your wheelchair and fly down the hallway enjoying the breeze, and always, always respond to your favorite people with “Yeah Buddy” and a thumb bump!

Arrangements were entrusted to Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory of Ball.

Harvey Joe Price, 62, of the Belah Community, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Riverside Hospital in Alexandria.

He was born Novmeber 30, 1954 in Jena to the union of his parents, Earl and Chessie Taylor Price.

Harvey Joe was a lifelong resident of the Belah Community and worked all this life as an oilfield contractor. He represented District 7 on the LaSalle Parish Police Jury for four years, from 1992 to 1995.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 22, in the Fellowship Baptist Church of the Belah Community with the Dr. Bill Robertson and Rev. Packy Thompson officiating.

Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joey Dale Price; a son, Tommy Joe Price; his parents; a brother, PFC Michael Price; and a sister, Connie Price.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda McMillin Price of Belah; step-son, George Pritchard of Jonesville; step-daughter, Memory Deville and husband Danny of Trout; sister, Gloria Jean Gulde and husband Samuel of Belah; nieces, Jackie Bohannon, and Janet Thompson; nephews, Jason Price and wife Bethany and Leon Gulde; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Reggie Loe, Dave Hudspeth, Donny Robertson, Eddie Gene Brooks, Allen Craig, Ronnie Mulvihill, Gary Wilson and Danny Price.

Honorary pallbearers were Brent Farley, Bo Bignar, Marty McClure, Benny Cockerham, Leslie Ray Humphries, Joe Mark Tarpley and Dennis Molan.

Memorials may be made to the Belah Cemetery Fund, or to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.

Tamara Gay Stroud Brown Smith, 53, of Lexington, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Chickasaw Nation Hospital in Ada, OK following a lengthy illness.

She was born March 15, 1964 in Shreveport.

Tamara was a beautiful person, very talented, creative, and gifted in so many ways. She is truly missed and loved.

A memorial service was held April 8 at Wadley Funeral Home in Purcell, OK.

Survivors include her husband, Roger Dale Smith of Lexington, OK; one daughter, Jennifer Griffin; her parents, Lonnie and Sharon Brown; two brothers, Randall R. Stroud Brown and Lonnie Shane Brown; one sister, Mandi M. Black; and a grandson, Hayden.

Lee ‘Red’ Tingle

Lee Floyd “Red” Tingle, 90, of Trout, passed from this life on Friday, April 21, 2017 at his residence.

He was born March 15, 1927 in Jena to the union of his parents, Homer Andrew and Eva Foley Tingle.

Red worked for Welch Motor Company in downtown Jena as an auto mechanic for many years and retired as a shop mechanic for Justiss Oil Company of Jena.

He was a Navy veteran, having served in Okinawa, Japan during Operation Ice Berge during World War II.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, April 23, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Billy Tingle and Evelyn Thompson officiating.

Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in Belah under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha; parents; brother, C. W. Tingle; and granddaughter, Jeanie Marie Tingle.

Survivors include his sons, Tony Tingle and wife Paulette of Trout, and Rick Tingle and wife Teresa of Meeker CO; nine grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Chris Taylor, Jordan Pritchard, Lonnie Edwards, Craig Toler, Charles Heath and Charlie Heath.

“Snookie” Webb

Claudette Thornton “Snookie” Webb, 78, of Jena, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in Kountze, Texas.

She was born September 6, 1938 in San Augustine, TX to Howard E. and Princella Evon Frazier Thornton.

Claudette had been staying with her mother in Kountze. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 22, at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee, TX, with interment following in Fellowship Cemetery in Warren, TX.

She was preceded in death by her father; husband, Billy Webb; and two sons, Allen Wayne Browning and Howard Lee Browning.

Survivors include her mother, Evon Bridges of Kountze; three sons, Thomas Michael Browning and wife Brenda of Crystal River, FL, Casey Webb and wife Jamie of Shreveport, and Michael Webb and wife Stephanie of Pineville; daughter, Thressa Vaughn of Gonzalez; brother, Kenneth Thornton of North Zulch; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 17 great great grandchildren.

Mary Belle Carroll

Mary Belle Tousley Carroll, 102, of Olla, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia Heights.

She was born March 22, 1915 in Olla to the union of her parents, Samuel Edwin Tousley and Teresa Prestridge Tousley.

Mary Carroll was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olla and owned and operated Carroll Building Supply in Olla from 1956 to 1986. She was a 1931 graduate of Olla Standard High School.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 28, from the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Olla with Rev. Greg Dunn officiating.

Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of sixty years, James Lee Carroll, Sr.; her sister, Alice Tedllie, and two brothers, Dan E. Tousley and Edwin Tousley.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, James Lee Carroll, Jr. and wife Ilene of Olla and Samuel William Carroll and wife Cathy of Bossier City; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Andrew Jackson Dunn, Jr., 63, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

He was born February 27, 1954 in Pineville to the union of his parents, Andrew Jackson Dunn, Sr. and Mary Cordia Hooker Dunn.

Andrew was employed by Walmart as a warehouse laborer.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 1, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. David Hutchinson and Daren Smith officiating.

Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah Community under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joseph Lewis; and brother, Joseph Lynn Dunn.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Porter Dunn; sons, Johnny Porter of Jena and Heath Robertson of West Monroe; daughter, Robin Robertson of Eros; brothers, Robert Dunn of Holly Ridge, Pete Dunn of Butler, MO and Earl Dunn of Joaquin, TX; sisters, Irma Smith of Jena, Willie Mae Lowe of Walker, Virignia Baum of Jena, Mary Lou Ennis of Jena and Katie Tullos of Winnfield; grandchildren, Krystall Lewis, Eli Porter, Nascha Lewis and Sierre Stevens; great granddaughter, Skylynn Rayne Mason.

Pallbearers were Angelo Benandi, Eli Porter, Taylor Murphy, Leonard “Buddy” Smith, Guy Methvin and John Wilkinson.

Carla Jean Fogleman, 52, of Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, April 23, 2017, at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena.

She was born January 21, 1965 in Jena to the union of her parents, Terry King, Sr. and Billie King.

Carla was a crafter, and refurbished furniture and anything that she could paint. Carla was a poet, and loved gardening, loved the outdoors and fishing and loved animals.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 26, at Sanctuary Family Worship Center in Jena with Rev. Heath Harris officiating.

Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her father, Terry King Sr.; and daughter, Chelsie Fogleman.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel Fogleman of Jena; daughters, Kayla Martin and husband Dustin of Archibald; Whitney Wilson and husband Derek of Jena; mother, Billie King of Jena; brothers, Terry D. King and wife Kimberly of Ruston, and Carl A. King and wife Sybil of Bossier City; grandchildren, Natalie, Owen, Weston, Cole, Ainsley, Chloe, and Jolie.

Pallbearers were Dustin Martin, Derek Wilson, Carl King, Joe Fogleman, Brandall McClure, Terry King Jr. and Marshall Chapman.

Kennith McGuffee

Kennith Mason McGuffee, 65, of Urania, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born March 28, 1952 in Monroe to the union of his parents, Oma Cary McGuffee and Earlean Thompson McGuffee.

Kennith served his country in the United States Navy in Vietnam having fulfilled six tours of service, some of which was on the USS Enterprise.

Prior to his illness he was Senior Surveyor with Lloyds Register Energy-Drilling. Kennith was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family and fellowship with the members of his church.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 28, from the sanctuary of Pinehill Baptist Church of Urania with Rev. Ed Smith and Bro. Cory Fowler officiating.

Interment with full military honors followed at the Rosefield Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his beloved wife, Frances McGuffee of Urania; two daughters, Kristi McGuffee Larson and husband Del of Stevens Point, WI and Heather McGuffee Daunis and husband, Geoffrey of Gonzales; two brothers, Jimmy McGuffee and wife Glenda of Enterprise and Keith McGuffee and wife Marilyn of Jena; sister, Dahnell Bell and husband Greg of Alexandria; and his grandchildren, Christopher Nealy, Colby Mason Nealy, Tyler Dalton Nealy, Caitlyn Nicole McGuffee, Lily-Ann Hope McGuffee, Hagan James Nealy, Jonah Fletcher Nealy, Zachary Evans Daunis, Laynie Mae Daunis, Leo Larson; one great-grandson, Conor Mason Nealy; and a host of nieces and nephews including a very special niece Misty McGuffee King.

Pallbearers were deacons of the Pinehill Baptist Church.

Mary Annar Stockman, 83, of Harrisonburg, passed from this life on Sunday, April 30, 2017 in Jena.

She was born Sunday, April 15, 1934 in Harrisonburg.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Harrisonburg and pastored various churches with her husband.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 2, at New Hope Apostolic Church in Leland with the Revs. Justin Nowlin and Allen Hatten officiating.

Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery near Manifest under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville.

She is preceded in death by her father, John Ernest Ogden; mother, Mary Annar Williams; and husband, Rev. Doyle Stockman.

Survivors include two daughters, Margie McNaughton and husband Curtis of Olla, and Jeannie Nowlin and husband Donnie of Harrisonburg; son, Kenneth Stockman and wife Sheila of Rowlette, TX; sister, Leathie Nell Taylor of Jonesville; seven grandchildren, Anthony McNaughton, Amy McNaughton, Justin Nowlin, Brandon Nowlin, Jeremy Nowlin, Colby Stockman, and Chaste Stockman; and 11 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jeremy Nowlin, Kade Nowlin, Randy Stockman, Brandon Nowlin, Colby Stockman, and Anthony McNaughton.

Honorary pallbearer was Greg Daigrepont.

Interment followed in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Jena under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her mother Betty Ann Doughty Thiels; son, Justin Craig Boyd; and brother, Charles Nathan Thiels.

Those left to cherish in her memory include her sons, Marcus Kyle Boyd and wife Josilyn of Pollock, and Caden McCann of Trout; daughter, Lindsey Kleinpeter and husband Scott of Sulphur; father, Charles Aubrey Thiels and wife Linda; brother, Scott Thiels and wife Pepper of Pineville; sister, Connie McCann and husband Joey of Trout; grandchildren, Zayne, Riley, Ryanne, Braelyn; and neices and nephews.

Doris Ann Cowart, a native of Jena, passed from this life on Friday, May 5, 2017, at the Landmark Nursing and Rehab in West Monroe, at the age of 87 years, 6 months, and 7 days.

She was born October 28, 1929 in Jena to the family of Joseph Clyde and Lela Jeanette Sandiferd Pentecost.

Mrs. Cowart worked in the nursing field as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 7, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.

Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah Community under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Willard Cowart; and her parents.

Those left to cherish her memories is a daughter, Carmen Stellman and husband Steve of Farmerville; a grandson, Russell Kendrick and wife Karen of West Monroe; a granddaughter, Kale Hawker of Arcadia; and two great grandchildren, Michael and Andrew Kendrick.

Wesley Ruben Cox, 82, of Tullos, passed from this life on Monday, May 1, 2017 at his residence.

He was born December 5, 1934 to the union of his parents, John Wesley Cox and Mary Jane McGuffey Cox.

Mr. Cox was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church where he was a deacon, music director and Sunday School teacher. He was a master mason and a member of Charles F. Buck Lodge No. 260 F&AM in Urania.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 4, at Cross Roads Baptist Church with the Revs. Bruce Weatherford and Denver McBroom officiating.

Interment followed in the Beech Creek Cemetery, west of Tullos, under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sammie Adams Cox; sister, Dartha Cox Vines; and a brother, Herman Cox.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Randy Cox and wife Teresa of Tullos, Rita Maxwell and husband Mark of Winnfield, and Kenneth Cox of Tullos; grandchildren, Seth Cox, Daniel Cox, Jesse Cox, Jake Cox, Josh Cox, Eric Maxwell, Kimberly Maxwell, Phillip Worsham, Haley Worsham and Casey Toups; 12 great grandchildren; and a sister, Letha Cox Sanders of Tullos.

Grandsons served as pallbearers with Bobby Hutto and Don Corley serving as honorary pallbearers.

The family request that memorial donations be made to the Beech Creek Cemetery Fund and/or the Cross Roads Cemetery Fund, 128 Ted Price Lane, Winnfield, Louisiana 71483.

Melba Jean Francis, 79, of Jena, passed from this life on Friday, May 5, 2017, at her home in Jena.

She was born February 18, 1938 in Zenoria to the union of her parents, Ernest and Clara White Terrell.

Mrs. Melba worked as a Nurse from 1976 until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of Temple Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling, camping, word games, playing cards with the rook ladies and Council on Aging.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 7, at Temple Baptist Church in Jena with the Revs. Jimmy Keene and Reid Terry officiating.

Interment followed in Nolley Memorial Cemetery in Jena under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Justin Russell and Charles Francis; brothers, Buster, Jimmy, Bobby (Pee Wee) and an infant brother; sisters, Marie Bruney, Bernice Stoneman and an infant sister.

Those left to cherish her memory include daughters, Darlene Vickers and huband Danny of Jena, Bobbie Campbell and husband John of Trout, Renee Sanders and Pam Holsted, both of Jena; brothers, Nick Terrell of Aimwell and Hershaell Terrell of Oklahoma; sisters, Joyce Clark of Shreveport and Judy Thomas and husband Kempe of Jackson, MS; 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Mr. King served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of Lincecum Baptist Church of Georgetown and the Georgetown Lodge #298 F & AM.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, at Beulah Baptist Church near Georgetown with Rev. Lamar Carpenter officiating.

Interment followed in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery near Georgetown under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cary King and Lillian Chromchak; first wife, Joy King; and sisters, Carolyn Wood and Henrietta Tannehill.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Melva “Pesty” King; sons, Edwin King, Richard C. King and wife Susan; daughter, Cari K. ‘Buddy’ Plumlee

Granvill Henry “Buddy” Plumlee, 79, passed from this life on Friday, May 5, 2017, at the LaSalle General Hospital following a lengthy illness with multiple illnesses.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017, which would have been his 80th birthday.

Buddy was born in Clarendon, Arkansas on May 27, 1937 to William and Oma Plumlee. He attended school in Stuttgart and went on to become a construction manager in the highway and heavy construction field.

He met Mary Lou while assigned to a highway construction project in Mary Lou’s hometown of Tullos. Buddy and Mary Lou were married on July 14, 1957.

Buddy retired in 2008 after a distinguished 53-year career where he took part in projects spanning all over Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi. He enjoyed his retirement by spending time with his family, gardening, farming, and continuing his study of all things weather related.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, William (PeeWee) S. Plumlee, Al Plumlee, Patricia Mayo, Shirley Bruce, and Ronnie Plumlee.

Left to cherish Buddy’s memory are his loving wife and partner of 60 years, Mary Lou Goodwin Plumlee; his son, Curtis Plumlee and wife Kathryn; his son, John Plumlee and wife Susan; his grandchildren, Rebecca Plumlee Phillips and husband Chase, Caroline Plumlee Trainer and husband Sean, MaryHannah Plumlee, Jonathan Plumlee and Sarah Plumlee; his great grandchildren, Phoenix Patrick Trainer (big boy); his siblings, Connie Johnson, Robert “Bob” Plumlee, Kenneth Plumlee and wife Carol, and many nieces and nephews.

Bobbie Jean Smith

Bobbie Jean Poole Smith, 72, of Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at the Jena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jena.

She was born January 25, 1945 in Monroe to the union of her parents, Frank NcCoy Poole and Katie Mae Richmond Poole. She grew up in Columbia.

In the early 1970’s Bobbie moved to Jena where she owned and operated the Strand Theatre in downtown Jena, which is now in the process of being restored. Bobbie was a homemaker who loved interior decorating and arts and crafts. She was a caring housewife and mother.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Craig Franklin officiating.

Interment will follow in the Jena Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Gracie Halley and Ella Moore; and a brother, Grady Poole.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 32-years, Paul Smith of Jena; her step son, Stephen Smith of Jena; her daughter, Tammy Griffith and husband Billy of Jena, and her step-daughters, Theresa Balz and Sharon Wascom; her sister, Bettie Oser; her beloved grandchildren, Megan Powe, Ryne Griffith, Michael Smith, Stephanie Smith, Dalton Wascom and Kalene Ainsworth; and her great-grandson: Hudson William Griffith.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Noland, Kenny Oser, Scott Franklin, Dennis Wascom, Dalton Wascom and Joseph Peppers.
