Wayne Edward Smith, 70 of Sikes, and a native of Urania, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016. He was born Sunday, March 3, 1946 in Urania, to the union of his parents, Maxel and Ruby Jenkins Smith. Wayne was a member of Murray Street Baptist Church in Lake Charles and the Retread Motorcycle Club and was retired from Texas Eastman in Longview, TX. He served his country in the United States Army. Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 19 in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield with the Revs. Kevin Womack, John W. Maloy and Michael McBride officiating. Interment followed in the Wright Cemetery in Sikes under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bobby Smith; nephew, Bryan Smith; and great niece, Suzanne Miller. Survivors include his brother, Max D. Smith and wife Jan; sister, Delynda Womack and husband Lane; nieces and nephews, Tanya Clark and husband Tigger, Dana Smith, Ashley Carson and husband Seth, Karla Womack and Kevin Womack, in addition to several great-nieces and nephews, first cousins and friends.

Joyce Nugent King

Joyce Nugent King, 69, of Trout, passed from this life on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. She was born July 7, 1947 to the union of her parents, Leon and Lois Nugent. Joyce was employed as a respiratory therapist at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania for 39 years. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Warren Maxwell and Bob Wilson officiating. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Landon; and niece, Rendi Nugent. Survivors include her former husband, Huey King of Trout; daughters, Toni Malone and husband Shawn of Chatham, and Kim Hudnall and husband Donny of Trout; three grandchildren, Samantha Malone, Ashley Hudnall, and Dillan Hudnall; special friend, Kenneth Fatheree; brother, Donnie Nugent and wife Teresa of Whitehall; niece, Traci Gray and husband Hollis of Jena; great-niece Taylor Gray; and great-nephew Tyler Gray.

John “Buddy” Stutson

John E. “Buddy” Stutson, 84, of Whitehall, was tenderly called home by Jesus on Friday, November 18, 2016, after a lengthy illness. He was born November 8, 1932 in Jena to the union of Ray and Marie Edwards Stutson. Buddy graduated from Jena High School and worked first for Atkins Novelty, then Brown Brothers Fred Store in Jonesville and finally for the La. Dept of Wildlife and Fisheries as a wildlife agent. Buddy was an admirer of good horses and enjoyed equine activities. He was a founding member of the LaSalle Riding Club. He rode horses and raised cattle all of his life. He was known for his love of hunting, especially duck hunting. If you went hunting with Buddy, you had better come prepared to stay until the limit was achieved even if it meant walking home after dark. He was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church and served as their song leader many years ago. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 20, in the Pine Grove Baptist Church of Rhinehart with Rev. Joe Peppers officiating. Playing the piano was Lenise Sanson, and bringing the special music was Brent Sharp. Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 years, Beulah Chauffipied Davis Stutson; a stepson Ralph Davis; step daughter, Judy Davis Gill; brother, Billy Ray Stutson; step-grandson, Steve Gregory; and a great-granddaughter, Katie Keller. Survivors include a special granddaughter who was like a daughter, Sherri Smith and husband Damon of Trout; sister, Rose Marie Meyers and husband E. C.”Sonny” Meyers of Harrisonburg; a stepson, Scott Davis and wife Nancy of Collinsville, MS; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, one nephew, three neices, and a host of cousins and friends. Pallbearers were John Edward Meyers, Cody Chandler, Lynn Smith, Justin Paul, Joe Lachney, Scott Davis, David Ferguson, Kirby Rainer, and Reed Rainer. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Doughty, Robert Willet, Gary Watts, Jeff Windham, Wayne McGuffee, John Greer, Junior Prudhomme, and Carl Smith.

Tessa “Boo” Watson

Tessa Lee “Boo” Watson, 35, of Jonesville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2016, at her home with a host of family and friends by her side. Among her many accomplishments, she will always be remembered for her loving care for her patients and unique ability to warm their hearts and lift their spirits. She was loved by her patients and coworkers who honored her with the prestigious Daisy Award for extraordinary service in Nursing. Tessa was no stranger to sickness and battled cancer herself for many years. She never once let it slow her down. Her “the-more-the-merrier” demeanor and “light-up-the-room” smile were an inspiration to all. Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16, at New Life Pentecostal Church of Manifest with the Revs. David Poole and Joel Ford officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Manifest under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her sister, Christy Lynn Watson; and her grandparents, Otis and Rosalie Creel. Survivors include her only child, Harlee Lynn Dosher; parents, Doyle and Karen Watson; brother, Kevin Watson and wife Chasity; niece, Leanna Dodge; nephew, Kyle Watson; grandparents, L.W. Cub and Wilma Watson; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. Pallbearers were Kris Creel, Ken Creel, Timothy Creel, Lance Vestal, Nathan Davis and Lane McCarthy.

Ann Morehead Nugent, 83, of Olla, passed from this life on Monday, November 14, 2016, at the La- Salle Nursing Home in Jena. She was born May 9, 1933 in West Monroe to the union of her parents, Chester and Ruth McDonald Morehead. Ann was a homemaker and was retired from Belden Corporation. Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Ricky Gresham and Jason Ashley officiating. Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery near Manifest under direction of Hixson Brothers,  Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by husband, Johnnie William Nugent, Sr; son, Johnnie William “J.W.” Nugent, Jr; parents; brother, Chester Ray Morehead; and sisters, Francis Bass and Billie Miller. Survivors include a grandson, Johnnie William Nugent, III of Olla; great grandchildren, Jeremy William Nugent, LeAnn Nicole Nugent, John William Nugent and Allyson Brooke Nugent; sisters, Mildred Morehead Poole of Jena, Dorothy Watts of Woodworth, and Peggy Richie of Manifest; and daughter-in-law, Vivian Nolker. Pallbearers were Welby Poole, Bobby Miller, Marvin Morehead, Derrick McDowell, Steve Norris, and Cody Raglin.

Mollie H. Taylor, 85, of Winn Parish, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. She was born March 4,1931 in Winn Parish to the union of her parents, Perry and Maggie Allbritton Kees. Her family called her “Maw.” Her friends knew her as Ms. Mollie. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved to crochet, draw, and cook. She also loved flowers. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 17, from the Zion Hill Baptist Church, west of Olla, with Rev. Jesse Henderson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. She was preceded in death by her sons, Roger Dee Taylor and Kevin “Buster” Taylor; brothers, D. J. Kees, Minus Kees, Floyd Kees and Sammy Kees; grandsons, Brian Taylor and Charles Louis Taylor. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Thomas Louis Taylor of Winn Parish; sons, Eddie Taylor of Winn Parish, Tommy Taylor of Grayson, and John Kim Taylor and wife Bit of Olla; daughters, Vicki Taylor, and Julie Taylor Woods and husband Raven, all of Winn Parish; grandchildren, Perry Taylor, Mike Taylor, Micheal Dee Taylor, Josh Taylor, Jonathan Taylor, Dana Taylor, Brett McManus, Stacey Wiggins, Natasha Wells, Chris Ford, and Laci Stalcup; and numerous great-grandchildren. Lettie Viola Windham, 88, of Jena, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at the Jena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jena.

Mrs. Windham was a homemaker and a dental assistant.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 25, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Johnnie Phillips and Terry Doughty officiating.

Interment followed in the Nebo Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Amanda Sanders Allen; husbands, Lawrence Paul and Dr. Andrew Windham; brothers, Jim Allen, Arthur Allen, Ross Allen, J.H. “Tucker” Allen, Wayne Allen, Don Allen and Glen Allen; and sisters, Nettie Smith, Audie Hailey, Ella Bradford, Lena Hudspeth and Marjorie Allen.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Compton and husband Gary of Ruston; sons, Ronald Paul and wife Norma, and Lane Windham, all of Jena; a sister, Margaret Chevallier of Camden, AR; and a brother, Jesse “Jack” Allen of Shreveport; four grandchildren, Tami Paul Banick and husband Steve, Amanda Compton Williams and husband Jimmy, Cody Paul and wife Leslie, and Brittany Compton Hall and husband Mark; eight great grandchildren, Teea Swasey, Hallie Paul, Andrew Paul, Paige, Carlee, Carson, and Rentz Williams, and Landry Hall; and three great great grandchildren, Amyah, Liam and Tvi.

Pallbearers were Cody Paul, Steve Banick, Jimmy Williams, Alan Graham, Joe Cole, and Mark Hall.

Honorary pallbearers were Marlon Bell and Greg Craig.

Odessa Hudson Achord, 75, of Little Creek, died at 2:20 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Grace Home in Alexandria.

She was a homemaker, a mother, a grandmother and member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Odessa and her late husband, Marshall Achord, owned and operated Marshall Achord Electrical Company from 1974 to 2002, and for many years owned and operated Little Creek Grocery

Services were held at 10 a.m., Sunday, December 4, at Ebenezer Baptist Church of Little Creek with the Revs. Todd Norris and Ron Nation officiating.

Interment followed in the Hawthorne Cemetery in Little Creek under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Achord; and parents Wiley and Alma Hudson.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Danny Boyd of Jena; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Karen Achord; and son, Todd Achord, all of Little Creek; one sister, Donna Whatley of Temple, TX; two granddaughters, Mindi Sheffield and Tiffany Doyle; two grandsons, Sam Marshall Achord and Leon Achord; and two great-grandsons, Ross Underwood and Mason Sheffield.

Pallbearers were Glen Whatley, Ricky Cockerham, Carl Smith, III, Damon Smith, Joseph Williams and Oscar Kirum.

John Wayne Bailey

John Wayne Bailey, 72, of Jena, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at his residence in Jena.

He was born April 28, 1944 in Jena to the union of his parents, Joseph Garland Bailey and Edith Bailey.

John was a drilling and work over consultant, and was self employed for over 50 years. He was also a cattleman and enjoyed his grandkids and duck hunting.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 2, at Shady Grove Pentecostal Church in Sharptown with the Revs. Beau Manasco, Curtis Thornton, Lonnie Weidner and Joey Paul officiating.

Arrangements were handled by Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his father; and infant daughter, Cindy Renee Bailey.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Patricia Davis Bailey of Jena; sons, Stanley DeWayne Bailey and wife Laura, and Darin “Dobber” Bailey and wife Christa, all of Jena; daughter, Tammy Lynn Ray and husband Joe of Alexandria; mother, Edith Bailey of Jena; brothers, Garland Bailey, and David Bailey, both of Jena; sisters, Linda Ann Phillips, Gracie Mitchell, and Judy Ray Bailey, all of Jena; grandchildren, Caitlin Elizabeth Bailey, Caroline Elizabeth Bailey, Catherine Elizabeth Bailey, Claire Elizabeth Bailey, Tia Jo Manasco and husband Beau, Torey DeLane Ray and wife Anna, Tami-Jo Marie Ray, Emily Grace McClure and husband Austin, and John Steele Bailey; great grandchildren, Bailey Ray Manasco, Parker Allan Manasco, and Hadley Marie Manasco.

John R. Bradford

John R. Bradford, 56, of Jena, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at his residence in Jena.

He was born December 21, 1959 in Jena to the union of his parents, Phillip Owen Bradford, Jr. and Ruby Ineta Jernigan Bradford.

John was a driller in the oilfield, never met a stranger and always had a smile for everyone.

Services were held at 12-noon Saturday, Dec. 3, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Harvey Blasingame officiating.

Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Bradford; step-sons, Chester “Pinky” McMillin of Jena, and Josh McMillin of Ferriday; daughter, Amie McMillin of Jena; brothers, Phillip Owen Bradford, III of Oklahoma City, OK, Henry William Bradford of Alexandria, and Mark Lyndon Bradford of Knoxville, TN; sister, Janice Bass of Jena; and four grandchildren.

Joseph E. Doughty, Jr.

Joseph E. Doughty, Jr., 59, of Vidalia, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 30, 2016.

He was born January 4, 1957 in Jena to the union of his parents, Joseph Eldon Doughty, Sr. and Edith Monk Doughty.

Joe spent his childhood years in Harrisonburg before going to college at Louisiana Tech. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in education and a Master of Science in Agriculture. While at Tech, Joe was active in the Baptist Student Union and continued to be an enthusiastic Tech football fan and Alumni.

He moved to Vidalia and became an active member of First Baptist Church where he met his wife. He taught Sunday school for over 25 years, served as a deacon, and was the Secretary of the Deacons. Joe enjoyed meeting every morning at Nikki’s with his coffee group. He was active in Ferriday Rotary Club for the last 8 years.

Joe sold insurance for American General and was given the award “15 Years of Outstanding Service”. Joe was passionate about his hobbies: researching genealogy, woodworking and making perpetual calendars. He was dedicated to Relay for Life and was Team Captain.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, at First Baptist Church of Vidalia with Rev. Wes Faulk officiating.

Interment followed in the Richardson Family Cemetery in Jena under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Vidalia.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Doughty; two sisters, Rissa Shearer and Debbie Hulett and husband Alan; and a host of nephews.

Pallbearers were the deacons of First Baptist Church of Vidalia.

Judge J.P. Mauffray

The Honorable John Phillip “J.P.” Mauffray, Jr., District Judge-Retired, 73, of Jena, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2016, at his home in the Walkerville Community, south of Jena.

He was born Thursday, November 18, 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the union of John Phillip, Sr. and Margurite Louise Waguespack Mauffray.

Among Judge Mauffray’s many accomplishments were: in 1960, appointed Colonel on the staff of Governor Jimmie Davis as an Aide de Camp; in 1965, received a B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering from Tulane University school of engineering; in 1973, received a Juris Doctor degree from LSU School of Law; from 1973 to 1974, served as member of the Moot Court Board; in 1977, admitted and qualified as attorney and counselor of the Supreme Court.

J.P. served as leader for Boy Scouts of America and was an Eagle Scout himself. He was past president of the Lake Charles Jaycees. He served as 28th Judicial District Judge from 1994 until 2008.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6, in the First Baptist Church in Jena with the Revs. Dominick DiCarlo and Terry Doughty, and the Honorable J. Reed Walters, District Attorney, officiating.

Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Marilyn Rose Smith Mauffray; four sons, John Phillip Mauffray, III and wife Rachel, Aaron Mauffray and wife Jenna, Johnny Watts Mauffray and wife Kim and Andy Cruse; daughter, Tammy Cruse Lincecum and husband Danny; brother, Billy Mauffray and wife Ester; sister, Joan Fetty and husband Jim; grandchildren, Marisa Madeline Mauffray, Aaron Jacob Mauffray, Isabella Angela Mauffray, Macy Skye Mauffray, and Haley Lincecum Decker and husband Dustin.

Pallbearers were Judge Chris Peters, Walter Dorroh, Jr., Steve Kendrick, Mark Talley, Don Wilson, and Joe Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers were Judge Jimmie C. Peters, Lloyd Hennigan, Lewis Freeman, Albert Thompson, Roy Smith, Wallace Smith, Tracy Humphries, Jim Fetty, and Bobby Wilson.

Margaret Eugene Falkenheiner Welch, 80, of Harhan, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, in Harhan.

She was born Thursday, April 16, 1936 in Ferriday to the union of her parents, Henry and Edith Lee Falkenheiner.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, in the chapel of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Interment followed in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Natchez, MS, under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Ferriday.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas W. Welch; daughter, Kate Welch Pellitteri; and sister, Kay Falkenheiner Burson.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Welch Jr.; granddaughter, Alexis DeVille and husband Paul; great-grandchildren, Beaux and Mia Grace DeVille; grandson, Stephen Pellitteri, Jr.; sister, Mildred F. Peterson and husband Forrest of Ruston; niece, Libby McMullen and husband Corbet and their daughter, April; nephew, Clay Peterson and wife Susie; niece, Karena Reuter and husband Darryl; and niece, Belinda Cuffe and husband Ted.

‘LC’ Mooty, II

Leslie Clyde “LC” Mooty, II, of Pineville, entered eternal rest on Friday, December 9, 2016, at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria.

Mr. Mooty served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Disabled American Veteran Association. He worked offshore, worked as a tree-surgeon and was an avid gardener who supplied fresh vegetables to his family and friends and loved his family.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 11 at Montgomery Church of Christ in Montgomery, with Brothers J. B. Brown and Mitchell Norman officiating.

Interment followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Wheeling under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home of Ball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Jeannie Lou Mooty; and a sister, Betty Lou Mooty.

Survivors include his son, Norman Mooty of Pineville; four daughters, Jeannie Jones and husband Rusty of Montgomery, Melanie Robinson and husband Clark of Dodson, Nancy Mitchell and husband Kevin of Montgomery, and Tonya Taylor and husband Jason of Pineville; one brother, William Harmon Mooty and wife Esther of Shreveport; one sister, Mary Ann Poole and husband Dean of Rosefield; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous friends.

Aldis B. Smith, 80, of Jena, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 10, 2016, in the La- Salle Nursing Home of Jena.

She was born Thursday, October 1, 1936 at Jonesville to the family of John Milton and Stella Doughty Boyd.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of East Jena Baptist Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, at East Jena Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Norris and Johnnie Phillips officiating.

Interment followed in Smith Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.

A daughter, Monty Lanier; a brother, five sisters and her parents preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Freddie Rand Smith of Jena; daughter, Mary Jo Poole and husband Terry of Thibodaux; son, Billy Smith and wife Loretta of Jena; two brothers, Billy D. Boyd and wife Orvalyn, and Carlos M. Boyd and wife Joann, all of Jena; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Terry Poole, Wade Poole, Will Smith, Dustin Arabie, Peyton Walker, and David Breithaupt.

James Lester Barron, 66, of Nebo, entered eternal rest on Friday, December 16, 2016, at his residence with his wife by his side.

He was born April 30, 1950 in Jena, to the union of his parents, George Lee and Vera Yule Barron.

James loved the Lord and is a Vietnam Veteran where he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He loved woodworking and making walking sticks.

James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, J. D. Barron, Phillip Earl Barron and Bonnie Lee Barron; one sister, Georgia Barron; and grandson, Bentley James.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda M. Barron of Nebo; three daughters, Anna Book and husband Barrett of Harrisonburg, Connie Nicole Parker and husband Joe of Pace, FL, and Robin Maglott and husband Dustin of Longview, TX; four sons, Bubba Hathorn of Longview, TX, Jimmy Lee Barron and wife Kimberly of Elizabeth, Billy Ray Hathorn and wife Harley of Olla, and Willie H. Long of Summerville; grandkids, Ruby, Michael, Lillian Lee, Jake, Abby, Jaida, Dakota, Kendra, Brayden and Hunter; great grandkid, Lucian; sister, Nancy L. Donald Ray “Donny” Wiley, Jr., 63, of Jonesville, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016, at Grace Home in Alexandria.

Donny loved the beach, his nieces and nephews, and games on Facebook.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 18, at First United Methodist Church in Jonesville with the Revs. Marion Trisler, Jr. and Darryl Tate officiating.

Interment followed at Pease Cemetery of Larto under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Don and Ruthine Wiley; paternal grandparents, Bob and Myrtle Wiley; maternal grandparents, Walter and Delia Book; and brother-in-law, Mike Wilson.

Survivors include his sisters, Lucy Wilson, Tammy Cooper and husband David and Trudy Smith and husband Kenny; nephews, Clint Wilson and wife Alicia; nieces, Stacy Turnage and husband Charles, Tracy Cooper and Kayla Womack and husband James; great nieces and nephews, Bailey Turnage, Tate Turnage, Kaiser, Kohen and Karsyn Wilson, Madison, Molly and Macy Wiley, Camden and Paisley Womack.

Pallbearers were Jeff Wiley, Buddy Trisler, Jimmie Book, Jr., Bubba Miller, Bobby Gus Miller and Buddy McClure.

Honorary pallbearers were Clint Wilson, Kaiser Wilson, Kohen Wilson, Tate Turnage, Camden Womack and Craig Edwards.

Rachel Inez Lincecum

Rachel Inez Lincecum, 72, of Georgetown, passed from this life on Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Grace Home in Alexandria.

She was born August 19, 1944 in Jena to the union of her parents, Ray Harrison and Bessie Magdeline Sanders Hudson.

Mrs. Lincecum was a homemaker. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 16, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Lamar Carpenter officiating.

Interment followed in the Lincecum Cemetery of Georgetown under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Lincecum; her parents; and a great grandson, Braxton Fussell.

Survivors include her sons, Charles “Chuck” Fussell of Woodworth, Keith Fussell of Georgetown, Chris Fussell of Tyler, TX, Kraig Fussell of Pineville, DeWayne Lincecum of Tullos and Darryl Lincecum of Shreveport; daughter, Rose Lincecum of Destin, FL; 21 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Jim Arbogast, Jr.

James “Jim” William Arbogast, Jr., 74, of Tullos, passed away peacefully at his home on December 23, 2016.
 
He was born on September 12, 1942 in Centerville, Iowa, to his parents James William Arbogast, Sr. and Mable Irene Arbogast.
 
Jim spent most of his life in Tullos, after moving with his parents at the age of 12. He was known to many as Big Jim. Some may say it was because he was a mountain of a man at 6’6”, but if you ever met him you would know it was because of his larger than life personality and huge heart.
 
Jim never let a day go by without smiling and making sure he made others smile too. Jim, known to his family as Poppy, was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to all who was instantly loved by everyone who ever met him.
 
Jim spent 30 years off-shore in the service of Placid Oil Company, the last 16 years as a Deputy Sheriff with the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s office and spent many a day working for his father-in-law and himself in and around Tullos oil patch on his days off and free time.
 
Jim served in the U.S. Army before being honorably discharged due to early death of his father. Jim was a faithful member of the Charles F. Buck Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rites Temple of
 
Monroe and Shriner with the Barak Shrine Temple in Monroe.
 
He spent 20 years on the Tullos Town Council, was a member of the Kiwanis Club, and a life-long member of the Tullos First Baptist Church.
 
Poppy enjoyed spending time with his family, watching westerns, putting the beat down on members of his fantasy football league (especially his sons) and just loving life.
 
Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27, at the First Baptist Church in Tullos with the Revs. Dominick DiCarlo and Scott Smith officiating.
 
Graveside services followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Pineville and he was laid to rest under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.
 
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sharon Williams Arbogast, of Tullos; son James William “Jimmy” Arbogast, III and wife Chandra Zeagler Arbogast of Summerville; their daughter, Hilary Arbogast of Kansas City, MO; their son, Colton James Arbogast of West Monroe; and son, James “Joey” Harold Arbogast and wife Jennifer Strickland Arbogast, and their daughter, Allison “Allie” Arbogast of Lafayette.
 
Pallbearers were Sheriff Scott Franklin, Buck Borland, Johnny Ruddell, Colton Arbogast, John David Rankin, and Bubba Ziegler.
 
Honorary pallbearers were Buddy Williams, District Attorney J. Reed Walters, District Judge Chris Peters, Bobby Wilson, Gary Taylor, Chris Morrow, and Reece Tyler.

Audrey Inez Bignar Keene went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 25, 2016 in Jena.

She was born June 22, 1925 in Nebo to the union of her parents, William Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Hudnall Bignar.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, in the East Jena Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnnie Phillips and Gary Norris officiating.

Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee “Bud” Keene; her parents; a daughter, Ellen Janet Keene Oswalt and her husband H. L. Oswalt; a son-in-law, Paul “Tony” Long; her granddaughter, Jeanie Lynn Long; three sisters, Georgia Bignar Cannon, Laverne Bignar Cannon, and Jimmie Bignar Doughty; three brothers, Leon Bignar, Leland Bignar, and John “Tote” Bignar.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Louise Keene Long of Jena and Pamela Kay Keene Kane and husband Steven of Shreveport; one son, William Roy Keene of Little Elm, TX; one brother, Jolia Wayne Bignar and wife Pat of Jonesboro; and five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Steve Oswalt, David Smith, Nate Smith, Caleb Welch, Ethan Welch, and Gabriel Oswalt, with Brad Oswalt serving as an honorary pallbearer.
