Clifton Benjamin Paul, 55, of Jena passed from this life on Friday, December 11, 2015, at his residence in Whitehall. He was born March 3, 1960 in Jena and was employed as a driller in the oilfield industry. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15, in the Taylor Chapel Cemetery near Summerville under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his father, Emanuel Benjamin Paul. Survivors include one daughter, Brittany Paul of Jena; one son, Clifton E. Paul and Lacy of Olla; his mother, Edith Pearl Cotton Paul; and three grandchildren, R. D. Gorham, Amelia Goodeux and Anna Belle Paul.

Richard Paul Vachula

Richard Paul Vachula, 81, of Trout, passed from this life on Sunday, December 13, 2015, in Jena. He was born on April 1,1934 in Whatley, MA to the union of his parents, Paul Vachula, Jr. and Stella Valeski Vachula. Mr. Vachula was an equipment operator in construction and a veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by parents, and son, Micheal Paul Vachula. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Burns Vachula of Trout; daughters, Linda Anne Vachula of Trout and Shirley Cox of Minden; and grandchildren, Whitney Whorton, Holly Watson, Megan Cox and Justin Cox. A memorial service will be announced for a later date by Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

Michael Todd Tradewell

Michael Todd Tradewell, 53, of Holden, passed from this life on Thursday, December 10, 2015, in Chuuk, Micionesia, the diving boat Odyssey. He was born November 8, 1962 in Garland, Texas. Mr. Tradewell was a truck driver, a master diver and served in the United States Army for 32 years. He was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Survivors include his parents, Willie Lamar and Beth Elaine Tradewell of Jena; brothers, Robin Lamar Tradewell, John David Ingle and Paul Allen Ingle, all of Jena; and sister, Lisa Kaye Netherland of Jena. Services will be announced at a later date by Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. Pallbearers will be Jesse Ingle, Tyler Netherland, Ryan Nix, Guy Tradewell, Thomas Tradewell and Donovan Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hutchinson, Johnny Young, all members of Veterans Honor Guard of Jena, Captain Robert Stutson, Michael Hunter and Bobby Vickers.

Edna Mae (Brown) Breithaupt, 82, of Jena, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 13, 2015 in Jena. She was born Saturday, October 28, 1933 in Wilkinson County, Mississippi to the union of Thomas Jefferson and Hattie Emma (Phipps) Brown. Mrs. Mae, as she was affectionately known by so many, was employed for many years in retail businesses in Jena. Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15, in the Jena First Baptist Church with the Revs. Dominick Di- Carlo and Todd Norris officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery, east of Jena, under the directions of Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home. Mrs. Breithaupt was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 24 years, Charlie Willis “C. W.” Breithaupt; a daughter Tonia (Breithaupt) Cockerham; two brothers, T. J. Brown and Norris Brown; and a great-great- grandson, Carson Hall. Survivors include three daughters, Sue Cappo of Praireville, Charlene Greene and husband Doug of Natchez, MS, and Charliea Breithaupt of Jena; son-in-law, Bobby Sandifer of Jena; one brother, Sonny Brown and wife Barbara of Woodville, MS; three sisters, Mary Lee Johnson of Natchez, MS, Lucille Baker of Baton Rouge, and Beverly Sutton and husband Elwood of Salado, TX; eight grandchildren, Jeff Hall and wife Roxanne, Chris Hall and wife Ashley, Stevie Hall, Lisa Keith, Tommy Greene and wife Neely, Samara (Cockerham) Smith and husband Carl, Sandi Sandifer and Jenni Sandifer; fifteen great-grandchildren, Brian Hall, Kristen Hooper, Billy Hall, Emily Hall, Ethan Hall, Taylor Hall, Riley Hall, Sawyer Hall, Carley Keith, Madison Greene, Lydia Smith, Luke Smith, Brady McGehee, Blake McGehee, Beau Riley Thompson; four great-great-grandchildren, Hayes Hall, Austin Hall, Emma Grace Hall, and Eli Hall; very dear friends, the Mitchell family and staff of the Brisket House and Cindy Boothe and Sabrina Boothe. He was born October 11, 1955 in Port Sulphur, to the union of his parents, Orval Ray Poole and Ellen Kyle Poole. Ronald Ray worked as a truck driver and was a member of Sandy Bayou Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and will be missed by many. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, December 11, 2015 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. James Ray Townsend officiating. Interment followed in Rosefield Cemetery at Rosefield under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Dylan Poole. Survivors include his parents, Orval Ray Poole and Ellen Kyle Poole of Clarks; daughters, Angel Mitchell and husband Charles of Aimwell and Tasha Sullivan and husband Tim of Trout; brothers, Benny Kyle of W.V. and Charlie Mac Kyle and wife Rhonda of Winnfield; sisters, Ellen Ann Brown of Waco, TX and Eunice Lorrie Ellerbee and husband Keith of Pistol Thicket; grandchildren, Alexis Poole and fiance’ Robert Grey, Makayla Mitchell, Alyssa Mitchell, Corey Sullivan, Quentin Harper, Kathleen Celia Harper, Aubrey Harper and Delton Sullivan and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jonathan Brooks Wilhite, 32, of Olla, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. Memorial services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12, at Olla Methodist Church in Olla with Rev. Aaron Carpenter officiating. Interment followed at Chickasaw Cemetery, east of Olla, under direction of Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory of Ball. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Rawls; paternal grandparents, Virginia Bellow, Archie Wilhite and Louis Bellow. Survivors include his loving wife of 13 months, Jonnie Wilhite; parents, Frank and Vickie Wilhite; two sons, Vanner Smith and Jonathan Wilhite; two daughters, Kyria Wilhite and Kelsey Smith; one brother, Drake Wilhite; three sisters, Katlyn Wilhite, Jeanne Wilhite and Ashley Wilhite; and many uncles, aunts, family and friends.

Daisy Belle Davis Gaspard, 84, of Olla, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at the Christus St. Frances Medical Center in Alexandria following an extended illness. She was born on November 25, 1931 at Waverly, Louisiana to the union of her parents, Maud George Davis and Dovie Stevens Davis. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 at the Chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla with the Revs. Russell Rhodes and Willie Beaubouef officiating. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery of Olla under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James M. Gaspard; and her granddaughter, Bristen Glynn Gaspard. Survivors include her children, Melanie Andrews and husband Richard of Olla, Dennis James Gaspard of Olla, and Lamar Gaspard and wife Songia of Calhoun; five grandchildren, Ricky Andrews and wife Natalie, Daylan Andrews and wife Mahaley, Kevin Andrews and wife Brittany, Derry Gaspard and Victoria Rhea Gaspard; and three great-grandchildren, Easton Andrews, Carson Andrews and Annabelle Andrews. Rawlins B. “Pete” Breland, 55, of Jena, passed from this life from injuries sustained in a traffic accident near Nebo on Thursday, December 17, 2015. He was born August 3, 1960 in Jena to the union of his parents, Willie Rawlins and Helen Havis Breland. Pete was a drilling consultant in the oilfield and served his country in the Army National Guard. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 20, at Magnolia Baptist Church of Nebo with the Revs. Mark Breland and Byron Norris officiating. Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery of Nebo under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Nelson Sanders; and sister, Shirley Jo. Survivors include his wife, Eileen Kirkham Breland of Jena; son, Chris Breland and wife Tasha of Trout; daughter, Nikki Meche and husband Kevin of Trout; brother, C. J. Sanders of Poplarvile, MS; and grandchildren, Madison Breland, Kaylee Herbert, Andrew Breland, Rylie Breland, Camri Breland, Perton Meche, Olivia Meche, and Harmonie Meche. Mary Catherine Carr, 80, of Kelly, passed from this life on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at the Jena Nursing and Rehab Center in Jena following an extended illness. She was born January 28, 1935 to the union of her parents, James Harrison Arnold and Juanita Ezell Arnold. Mrs. Carr was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witness in Olla and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and nothing in life made her happier than to give to others. Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 21 in the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia. Interment followed in the Fellowship Church Cemetery, west of Columbia, under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ervin Lee Carr; grandson, Jeff Langley; and three brothers, Buck Arnold, Pop Arnold and Jimmy Ballard. Survivors include her son, Dan Carr and wife Tammy of Kelly; three daughters, Jane Flores and husband Gary of Hebert, Peggy Rhodes and husband Jack of Bayminette, AL, and Alice Braddock and husband Mark of  rayson; her brothers, Odelle Ballard of Brookhaven, MS, James Harrison Arnold, Jr. of Newellton, and William Curtis Arnold of Gretna; her sisters, Bobbie McClain of Newellton, Betty Bird of El Dorado, AR, Shirley Garner of Tallulah, Sadie Britt of Brookhaven, MS, and Linda and Dottie; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was born December 19, 1924 in Centralia, Illinois to the late Earnest and Ruth (Clayton) Trumbo. Services were held Monday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. at New Union Church north of Tullos with Rev. Lee Thomas officiating. Interment followed in the New Union Church Cemetery under direction of Conner-Hankins Funeral Home of Mountain Home, AR. Survivors include three children, Fred Myron Cockerham (Halina) of Oakland, AR, Robin Bruce Cockerham (Gayla) of Hamburg, AR, and Rosemary Boyter of Mountain Home; six grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn Smith, Ruth Corbin and Dorothy Jones and lifelong friends, Bobby and Bertie Barbee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Herman Cockerham; two brothers, Clyde and Leslie “Shorty” Cockerham and three sisters, Bea, Pauline and Mary. Tommy Eugene Francis, 81, of Jena, passed from this life on Friday, December 18, 2015. He was born July 1, 1934 in Trout to the union of his parents, W. E. “Shorty” and Janie Jones Francis. Mr. Francis was a member of Olivet Baptist Church of Sulphur, served in the National Guard, played football while attending Jena High School and Louisiana College. He was a retiree of CITGO Refinery and his favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and watching old westerns. Services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Tarver and Evelyn Thompson officiating. Interment followed in Belah Cemetery of the Belah-Fellowship Community under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Betty Chevallier Francis. Survivors include two daughters, Edwina Sharp Comer and husband Brian of Jena and Lydia Dougherty and husband Tim of Carlyss; two sons, Lesley King and wife Shelly of Jena, and Jerome Francis and wife Tracy of Carlyss; one sister, Ellyene Coile of Nebo; 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Shelby Sharp, Jr., Seth Sharp, Andrew Sharp, Chandler Comer, Alex King and Brian Comer. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Jones, Joey McCann, David Monk, and Jim McCann.

James Robert “Jim” Owens

James Robert “Jim Bob” Owens, 66, of Ruston, and a native of Jena, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 19, 2015, in Ruston. He born on January 27, 1949 in Jena, Louisiana. Jim grew up in Central Louisiana where he was a devoted Eagle Scout, a Jena Giant football player, and an avid cowboy and rodeo clown. After graduating from Jena High School, he left college to return home to help his father in the family automobile business. It was there that he met Loretta Eileen Shadow. After a stint attending Sunday School together, the two fell in love and were married on February 17, 1973. A few years later, Jim and Loretta moved to Ruston and he took a job with the Ruston Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Once their roots were set in North Louisiana, Jim raised Arabian Horses at Shadow Glen Farm and became extremely active in many civic organizations. Here, he remained active in the Boy Scouts of America serving as the Scout Master of Troop 45, was a member and President of the Kiwanis Club, Trinity United Methodist Men, and Louisiana Methodist Cursillo. After the closing of the Bottling Plant, he was a Purina Feed Dealer and served with the Wild Horse Ministries around the country. After his retirement from the feed business, Jim got involved in the local Christian Motorcyclist Association Chapter; an organization that was very dear to his heart and his faith. He went on to serve as the Louisiana State Coordinator for over eight years. Over the years he served on numerous CMA mission trips throughout the nation, as well as Central and South America. Jim was passionate about life and was devoted to his Lord, his church, his family, and his friends. Three times he was diagnosed with cancer-and three times, he beat and survived these diseases. He lived a wonderful life and his children and grandchildren were the blessings he cherished most. Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 22, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston with Rev. Leslie Stephens officiating assisted by Kerry Gibson. Interment followed at Greenwood cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. He was preceded in death by his grandson, James Wyatt Martin; and his father, Herbert Stanley Owens. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Loretta Owens of Ruston; his mother: Juanita Berry Owens of Monroe; his sister, Sara Nan Owens Shamblin and husband John of Monroe; his brother, John Stanley Owens and wife Nancy of Arlington, TX.; his four children: James Roath Owens and wife Megan, Megan Owens Martin and husband Geoff, Robert Berry Owens and fiancé, Valerie, all of Ruston, and Jonathan Raymond Owens and wife Kacie of Baton Rouge; eight grandchildren also survive their ‘Pops’, Allyson and Tucker Martin, Jacob, Michael, and Sean Owens, Mary Margaret and Beau Michael Owens and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Jerry Begale, Add Golf, Jordan Holmes, Michael Ramsey, Brad Roberson and Don Mc-Gehee. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. William Green, Mark Graham and J. B. Chrisman. Mary Selena Aycock Roberts

Mary Selena Aycock Roberts, 93, of Shreveport and formerly of Olla, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 16, 2015. She was born October 3, 1922 in Holloway, LA to Benjamin and Ellen Crooks Aycock. Selena lived in the Olla/Tullos area until Feb. 2008 when she moved to Shreveport and made her residence at the Guest House Nursing Home where she was loved and will be missed by many. Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Roberts were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 at Pinehill Baptist Church of Olla, with the Revs. Denver McBroom and George Farrington. Burial followed in the Pinehill Church Cemetery under direction of Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Funeral Home of Shreveport. Selena was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fredric Alonzo “Lonnie” Roberts, Sr.; one grandson, Jerry Roberts; one great-grandson, Robert Alonzo Frank; five brothers, and four sisters. Survivors include two sons, F. A. “Sonny” Roberts Jr. and wife Bobbie of Clarks and Carl Wendell Roberts and wife Mary of Stonewall; one sister, Lillie McDougald of Olla; two sisters-in-law, Arzelia Aycock of Olla, and Irene Aycock of Monroe; seven grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren in addition to numerous nieces and nephews as well as a multitude of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons, Hardy Roberts, Graham Roberts, Tim Weglowski, Brandon Weglowski, Nick Peterman, and Colson Thornton. The family suggests that memorials be made to the charity of your choice.

John Martin Sandiferd

John Martin Sandiferd, 89, of Jennings and a native of Jena, passed away December 14, 2015 at 3 p.m. in the Golden Age Nursing Home in Welsh, LA. He was born June 16, 1926 in Jena, where he graduated from high school then served in the U.S. Army in Europe for two years during World War II. Mr. Sandiferd later made his home in Elton, LA where he worked as a switcher in the oilfield. He retired in 1988. He loved spending time with friends and playing music with them. He played the guitar and harmonica. He especially loved playing his harmonicas for the church services at the nursing home during his last years. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Elton. Services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 17, 2015 in the Miguez Funeral Home chapel in Jennings with Rev. Pat Thomas officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings. Survivors include two sons, John Keith Sandiferd and wife Vickie of Jennings, and Randy Martin Sandiferd of Topsy, LA, along with four granddaughters and four great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Elsie Clark Sandiferd; his grandson, John Colter Sandiferd; his parents, Roy and Leonia Sandiferd; and his sister, Bertha McDaniel. Doris T. Jack, 87, of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, December 14, 2014, in a Texas Rehabilitation Center. She was born May 5, 1928 in Jena to Dennis (Diddle) and Bertha Richardson Thomas. Doris attended school in LaSalle Parish and after completing high school, she attended and graduated from Grambling State University. After marrying Will Jack, she worked in Ville Platte at James Stevens High School. Following her work there for many years, she returned to LaSalle Parish and continued to work until retirement at Jena Elementary School. Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 19 at New Evergreen Baptist Church of Jena with Rev. Stanley Mathis officiating. Interment followed in the Webster Cemetery in Good Pine. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Andrew and A. D.; and sister, Ernestine Johnson. Survivors include Johnnie M. Johnson and Dewan Jack of Alexandria; Ywanti Jack of Ft. Worth, TX, Darwin Jack (Ann) of Jena, Donnell Farris of Dallas, TX; six foster children, 29 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren; a niece, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. Brenda Tullos, 68, passed from this life on Thursday, December 24, 2015, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 28, at First United Pentecostal Church of Harrisonburg, with Pastor Danny Aarons officiating. Interment followed in the Harrisonburg Cemetery under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. C. and Faye Aarons; daughter, Priscilla Drane; grandson, Dewayne Tullos; brother, Craig Aarons; and nephew, “Scooter” Aarons. Survivors include her children, Gerald Tullos and wife Evelyn of Summerville; George McClure of Jonesville, and Judson Lee Drane and wife Diana of Pleasant Prairie, WI; siblings, Joseph L. “Bo” Aarons and wife Charlotte of Harrisonburg, Danny Aarons and wife Marsha of Lake Charles, Lily Book of Jena, and Joyce Henderson of Harrisonburg; seven grandchildren, Daniel Tullos, Austin Drane, Jazmin Drane, Ethan Drane, Christian Drane, Nina McClure and Emily Rose McClure; two great grandchildren, Kaylea Tullos and Gabriele McClure; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Michael Hearndon, Bradley Jerome Book, Daniel Tullos, Caleb Patten, Joshua Patten, Harold Sones, and Rodney Sones.

Dora Ann Evans, 58, of Harrisonburg, passed from this life on Friday, December 25, 2015, in Harrisonburg. She was born on Friday, August 23, 1957 in Jonesville. Services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 28, at the chapel of Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville with Rev. Gary Wagoner officiating. Interment followed at Heard Cemetery of Manifest under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lemuel Miller. Survivors include two daughters, Brandy Corley and husband Kirby of Olla, and Ashley Marceaux and husband Iry of Jonesville; mother, Billie Morehead Miller of Harrisonburg; former husband, Art Evans of Parhams; brother, Bobby Miller of Harrisonburg; grandson, Robert Carl Corley; two granddaughters, Brianna Corley and Madelyn Marceaux; step-grandson, Austin Marceaux; and step-granddaughter, Leila Marceaux. Pallbearers were Iry Marceaux, Kirby Corley, Austin Marceaux, Randy Morehead, Marvin Morehead, and Robert Corley.
