Theresa Johnson

Theresa Johnson, 90, entered her eternal home on Friday, March 11, 2016. She was born May 11, 1925, to the union of the late Saul Banks and Mag Banks. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Hallgrove Baptist Church in Monterey under the leadership of the late Rev. Ernest White. She joined the L&A Baptist Church, where she was crowned a Mother of the church and served faithfully until her health failed her. Mrs. Johnson worked as a sharecropper at a young age until the Lord blessed her with a bountiful of children. She later worked as a housekeeper. Her love and total dedication to her family has been an inspiration to her family and to the community. A homecoming celebration was held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 19, 2016, at L&A Baptist Church in Good Pine with Rev. Jimmy R. Young officiating. Interment followed in Webster Cemetery of Good Pine under direction of Gayden Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; her lifelong companion, Milton Green, Sr.; her daughters, Ruth Johnson, Estelle Johnson, and Ruby Johnson Webb; her step-sons, Ervin Green and Arthur Green; and her step-daughters, Laura Humphries, Martha Windham, and Cherry Matthews. Survivors include her sons, Saul Johnson (Helen) of Jonesville, and Billy Ray Johnson (Rhonda) of Jena; her daughters, Ella Powell (Edward), of Orange Park, FL, Emma Jackson (Carl) of Vidalia, Katherine Lewis, Betty Johnson, Stella Beard (Jerry-deceased), Delores Brinson, and Wanda Lee, all of Jena; her step-son, Milton Green (Macey) of Orange, TX; step-daughters, Anna Stevenson of Shreveport, Eassie Shankel of Orange, TX, Rosemary Johnson (Thomas), and Maple Rice, all of Shreveport, and Clara Jackson of Houston, TX; 30 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Jarvis Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Willie Lewis, Rolondo Johnson, Levelle Brinson, Jerry Beard, Jr., Byron Lee, and Henry Jenkins, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Billy R. Johnson, Milton Green, Jr., Saul Johnson, Carl Jackson, Willie Ray Thomas, Ricky Parker, Edward Powell, Sr. and Thomas Johnson, Sr.
