
Nancy Mai Whitley McCartney, 86, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the home of her daughter in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born on January 14, 1929 to Kenneth and Hattie Mai Williams Whitley in Nashville TN. She graduated from North High in Nashville in 1948, where she was voted “Most Dignified” and married Johnny McCartney of Urania, that same year. Mrs. McCartney was a long-time resident of Jena where she was active in the First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was a member of the Town & Country Garden Club and did volunteer work at both LaSalle General Hospital and Hardtner Medical Center. She loved her family, her church family, working crossword puzzles and LSU Football. Mrs. McCartney moved last year from Jena, to Fort Smith, to be with her family where she enjoyed her great-grandchildrens’s activities, shopping and getting her nails done. A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, at the First Baptist Church in Jena with Rev. Dominick DiCarlo officiating. Interment followed at the Pine Hill Cemetery of Olla, under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny McCartney and two sisters, Nadine McCartney of Olla and Ruth Watkins of Nashville, TN. Survivors include her Children, Pam McCartney Copeland and husband Terry of Fort Smith, AR and Larry McCartney and wife Donna of Quitman; four grandchildren, Matt Copeland of Oxford, MS, Julie Copeland Tatum and husband John of Greenwood, AR, Kristen McCartney Telford and husband Jeremy of Stillwater, OK and Karey McCartney Harrel and husband Clay of Hideaway, TX; three step-grandchildren, Ben Backus and wife Lindsay, Stephen Backus, and Caleb Backus, and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Morrison of Nashville, TN, and her brother-in-law, W. B. “Bo” McCartney, Sr. of Jena. Pallbearers were Joe McCartney, Darrel McCartney, Whitney McCartney, John Tatum, Clay Harrel and Jeremy Telford. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Williams, Clay White, Poo Walker, Murphy McMillin, Jerry Stevens, and Marty McClure.
