Soledad “Lisa” Escobar Knighten, 65, of Olla, passed from this life on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. She was born September 16, 1947 in Samar, Philippines, to the union of Ramon and Segunda Bardaje Escobar. Lisa had a green thumb and enjoyed being outdoors and gardening. She was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church in Olla, and attended services at St. John’s Catholic Church in Columbia. She was also a member of the Gold Star Mothers. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 24, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla with Father James Nellikunnel officiating. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd G. Knighten, Jr., who died in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm; and her brother, Jesus Escobar. Survivors include two sons, Floyd G. Knighten, III, and wife Jessica of Monroe, and Narciso Escobar; brother, Aurelio Escobar; two sisters, Lilia Escobar and Lydia Escobar, all of San Miguel Bulacon, Philippines; and her grandson, Aidan Caraway of Monroe. Pallbearers were Charles K. Walters, Charles R. Walters, Ray Lynn Coolman, Eddie Coolman, Christopher Moses, and Glynn Hardy, with Jesse Greer serving as an honorary pallbearer.
