John Walter “J. W.” (Dub) Crooks, 78, of Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, August 16, 2015, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was born December 20, 1936 in Jena to the union of his parents, Dewey George and Lena Clark Crooks. Dub worked for Justiss Oil Company, Penrod offshore, engineer with LA. Midland Railroad, K.F. Cementing and retired from Fruit of the Loom (Belden). He loved to duck hunt and work in his garden and was a Mason. Services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 19, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Terry Doughty and Jimmy Keene officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodland Cemetery of Jena under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Doris Doughty, Irma Lee Callender and Mary Graham; brothers, “LE” “Pomp” Crooks, Julian Crooks and Lawrence Crooks. Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Crooks Terral of Jena, Jennifer Crooks and Melissa Below, both of Dallas, TX; son, David L. Crooks of Jena; sisters, Brenda Deville of Nebo, Glenda Johnson of Krotz Springs, Leola Breithaupt of Ingleside, TX; grandchildren, Michael Crooks, Daniel Crooks, Thomas Crooks, Logan Crooks, Brad Terral, Karen Bryant, and Jonathan Below; great grandchildren, James Michael Crooks, Carson Crooks, Addison Crooks, Marshal Terral, Miller Terral, Bella Bryant and D.J. Bryant. Pallbearers will be Daniel Crooks, Brad Terral, Thomas Crooks, Eddie Glen Johnson, Jeremy Roark and Gary Lloyd Deville. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Crooks, Jonathan Below, James Ray Doughty and Hunter Nolan.
