
John Monsey Smith, Jr., also known as “Uncle John” and “Tuxedo John”, 81, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, August 6, 2015. He was born Monday, April 30, 1934 in Escambia County, Alabama, to the union of John Monsey Smith, Sr. and Era Mae Ellis Smith. A graveside service was held at 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 7, at Woodland Cemetery, east of Jena, with the Revs. Donald E. “Don” Privett, David Hutchinson and Everette “Shorty” Mayo officiating. Interment followed under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents, and step-father, Rev. Jasper Dee Childress. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Louyette Mildred Nobles Smith; his son, Johnny
Ray Smith of Jena; and a special daughter-in-law, Debra Bryant. Pallbearers were Danny Brown, Jr., Ethan Brown, Seth Davis, John Nobles, Darren Smith, and Johnny Wilkinson.
