Donald Newton “Don” Day, 64, of Jena, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at his residence. He was born December 12, 1950 in Greenville, Mississippi, to the union of his parents, Hansel Louis and Alice Montell Smith Day. Don loved being a Christian and was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Jena, where he served as a Deacon. He retired from El Paso Corp after 28 years of service as an instrument and electrical
technician. Following his retirement, he began Day Real Estate in 1998 and MAK Investments. Family was his life, and he loved LSU football. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 20, at Temple Baptist Church in
Jena with Rev. Jimmy Keene officiating. Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Terry Day. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Day of Jena; daughter, Anna Masters and husband Billy of Jena; two sons, Adam Day and wife Andrea of Vicksburg, MS, and  Andy Day and wife Carey of Monroe; sister, Denise Day Moody and husband John of Jena; brother, Dennis Day and wife Kathy of Jena; sisterin- law, Patricia Day; grandchildren, Austen Day, Kane Day, Marlee Day, Trent Masters, Tucker Masters, Maci Masters, Katie Lee, and Josie Masters; great grandchildren, Sophia Lee and A. J. Lee; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Joe Phillips, Clifton Jackson, Steve Andrews, Gary Wilbanks, Carlos Crooks, Buddy Hughart, Gawan Burgess, and Walter Craig. Honorary pallbearers were Dale Evans, Duck Hopkins, Donnie Kendrick, Keith Andrews, members of his Sunday School Class, and his grandsons.
