Michael J. Cotten, 68, of Ridgecrest, passed from this life on Monday, April 8, 2013, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was born November 22, 1944, in Jena. Michael was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church. He had worked as a superintendent at Occidental Petroleum Corporation in Sulphur. Michael was a private but caring person, and a loving father. He loved his family deeply and was very proud of his son and all his accomplishments. He was a perfectionist and a hard worker. Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 11, at Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church with Sister Gay Bradford officiating. Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery near Jena under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Ferriday. He was preceded in death by his father, William Cotten; and his mother, Launa Ainsworth Scruggs. Survivors include his son, Michael Randy Cotten and wife Teresa of Newnan, GA; four sisters, Ernie Martin and husband Nub, and Dorothy Swaggart, all of Ridgecrest; Jean Duncan and Barbara Starr and husband Clif, all of Vidalia; and a brother, David Scruggs and wife Wendy of Ridgecrest. Pallbearers were Clayton Dean, David Ray Scruggs, Jody Starr, Patrick Scruggs, Shawn Parker, and Spencer Dean. Honorary pallbearers were Clif Starr, Jackie Martin, Matt Parker, Jess Moffett, Brad Moffett, and Benny Loyd.
