George A. Barron, Sr., 80, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, March 22, 2014 in Alexandria after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. He was born January 3, 1934 to the union of his parents, W. T. “Coon” and Alice
Wiggins Barron. George was a generous, caring man, whose career was spent in the oilfields of Central Louisiana. His greatest passion was helping others, whether with their oil wells, their cows or most anything else. A good friend to many people, he will be sorely missed by them all. He was a member of the Jena Church of Christ. Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena
with Brother John Barker officiating. Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery near Jena under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William Thomas Barron; brothers,
Reese Barron, Cecil Barron, Jack Barron, Ray Barron, Tom Barron, and Jimmy Barron; sisters, Lula Cooper, Allie Redd, Grace Lucky, Josie Lee Weir and Mae Husband. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Grace Isonhood
Barron of Jena; one son, George “Bubba” Barron, Jr. and wife Cherry of Pollock; one daughter, Karen Gray and husband Chris of Shreveport; two brothers, Charles Barron of Clayton and Travis Barron of Opelousas; one sister, Barbara Miller of Doyline; sister-in-law, Margie Barron of Belle Chasse; granddaughters, Lauren Gray and Emily Gray, grandson, Jeffrey Barron of Pollock, and numerous nieces and nephews.
