Narine Peterson Brooks, 86, a native of LaSalle Parish, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Buckner’s Westminter Place in Longview, Texas. Narine was born February 4, 1928 to the union of her parents, Henry and Parrie Huddleston Peterson, and grew up in LaSalle Parish where her father worked in the oil fields. She graduated from Urania High School and attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. She married James Dargan Brooks in 1946 when he returned from serving in World War II. The couple had four children, all boys, and lived in Jena, where Dargan served as high school principal. In 1968, the family moved to Waco, Texas, for Dargan to earn his doctorate degree at Baylor Univeristy. Following three years in Waco, they moved to Marshall to serve at East Texas Baptist University. Narine received her Bachelor of Arts degree from ETBU and a Masters in Library Science from East Texas State University. She was employed on staff with the ETBU Library for over 25 years. She lived her life walking by faith, not by sight, trusting in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. This was her highest calling. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marshall since 1970, serving many of those years as church librarian. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, March 8, at Colonial Gardens Cemetery near Marshall, Texas. Interment followed under direction of Meadowbrook Funeral Home of Marshall, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 46 years, and a sister, Pat Smith of Jena. Survivors include four sons, Jim Brooks and wife Shelley of Waco, TX, Jeff Brooks and wife Teresa of Carthage, TX, Joey Brooks and wife Paula of Forney, TX, and Jon Brooks and wife Donna of Marshall, TX; seven grandsons, Marcus Brooks and wife Jenna, and Wesley Brooks and wife Paige, all of Waco, TX, Gabe Brooks of Tyler, TX, Adrian Brooks of Denton, TX, Jacob Brooks of Forney, TX, Dustin Brooks and wife Bianca of Waco, TX, and Matthew Brooks of San Antonio, TX; seven great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and a brother, Sonny Peterson and wife Lena of Austin, TX.
