J. ‘Red’ McFarlen, Sr

James Monroe “Red” McFarlen, Sr., 89, of Jena, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. He was born October 31, 1931 in Wallace Ridge to the union of his parents, James Sanders “Jay” McFarlen and Eliza Hardie Gurie McFarlen. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 18, in the Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart with the Revs. Roger Cole and Jimmy Keene officiating.

Interment followed under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Clark McFarlen; infant daughter, Peggy Sue McFarlen; parents; and his seven siblings.

Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Janice “Louise” McFarlen Jones (Kirby) of Jena; one son, James M. “Jr.” McFarlen (Freda) of Jena; one sister, Rosie Jackson of Tulsa, OK; five grandchildren, Dwayne Jones of Los Angeles, CA; Shane Jones Bolton of Provencal, Jake McFarlen (Victoria) of Jena, Jeb McFarlen (Ashley) of Covington, and Brett Grantham (Ashley) of Bossier City; 11 great grandchildren, Skylar, Meagan, and Waylon Bolton, Chase Natalie and Delilah McFarlen, Lola, Olivia, and Jensen McFarlen, Ava and Audrey Grantham.

Pallbearers were James “Jr.” McFarlen, Jake McFarlen, Jeb McFarlen, Brett Grantham, Kirby Jones, and Dewayne Jones.
