A. E. Blair, 94, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Friday, august 30, 2013, in Jena. He was born Sunday, July 20, 1919, in Friendship, LA to the union of his parents, Robert Blair and Ursula Readhimer Blair. Mr. Blair was a carpenter by trade and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with the Ninth Infantry Division from 1941 until 1945. He was under combat fire in North Africa, Sicily, and Normandy, and was awarded six campaign ribbons, the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 1, at the Woodland Cemetery near Jena with Cleveland Poole officiating. Interment followed under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 71 years, Althia Lutrick Blair; five brothers, Eldon Blair, Bobby Blair, Ready Blair, Winfrey Blair and Corbia Blair; and two sisters, Mary Sue Rhame and Bonnie McMurry. Survivors include two daughters, Jo Ann Poole and husband Doyle, and Kathryn Smith and husband Bob; five grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Grandsons served as pallbearers and great grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.
