Glen Dale McKeithen, 80, of Urania, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 in Urania, the place of his birth. He was born January 25, 1937 to the union of A. Glen McKeithen and Nellie Cook McKeithen. As a young boy, Glen was always outside, and this continued into his adulthood. He was an avid outdoorsman.. He loved to fish, hunt, bird watch, and he knew the name of every tree and bush in LaSalle Parish, and beyond! He was always ready to give a “lesson”, if you were willing to listen. One of his favorite days of the year was the day the Painted Bunting appeared on his bird feeder. He would announce their coming to all of his friends and family by telephone. Glen served in the United States Navy and was world traveled by the time he was nineteen years old. After he left the Navy, he worked for The Urania Lumber Company, in the Tullos oilfield, and finished his working career with Placid Oil Company as a Production Foreman. He had and maintained a camp on Rosen Creek that he built with his own hands, and sheer determination, which was one of his strongest qualities. He loved his family fiercely and none of us doubted his devotion! Services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, at Beech Creek Baptist Church in Winn Parish with the Revs. Jack McKeithen and Keith Roberson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Geraldine Gray, and another sister Bobbie Denny; and son-in-law, Jerry Roberts. Glen is survived by his wife of fifty three years, Fern Allbritton McKeithen of Urania; their three children, Rebecca McKeithen Kuykendall (Ren), Deanie McKeithen Collier (Cary), and Caleb Glen McKeithen; nine grandchildren, Magen Wesson Roberson (Keith), Zachary Wesson, Aaron Wesson, (Abigail), Greyson Kuykendall, Griffin Kuykendall, Georgia Keykendall, Graham Roberts (Kelsey), Karianna Roberts Weatherly (Trae), and Katie Gaines; also sixteen great grandchildren; and several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Pallbearers were Zac Wesson, Greyson Kuykendall, Griffin Kuykendall, Graham Roberts, Aaron Wesson, Keith Roberson, Trae Weatherly, and Ken Allbritton. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Womack, Don Corely, Larry Lee, William Moody, Doug Comeaux, Bubba Sherill, and Kent Roark.
