On October 7, 2017, our son, father, papaw, brother, nephew, uncle and friend, Micheal Lamar Poole, was released from his earthly body and relieved of his fight with cancer. Mike was quick to laugh and had a smile for everyone. He was known during his years at Jena High as a great football player and a legendary baseball player. His love for baseball extended into his adult life and he spent many years coaching and volunteering at the Ward 10 Baseball Complex in Tioga, La. He loved music and was a great dancer. He swept many a partner off her feet, literally. Other than his family, Micheal’s enjoyment throughout his life was his cows, horses and his dogs. He loved his camp on Old River and spent most of his time there. He was either fishing or hunting, talking about fishing or hunting, or planning a fishing trip or hunting trip. His family feels that Mike would have had it no other way than to leave this life on opening day of season. Mike was born in Jena, Louisiana on August 15, 1951 to the union of Lamar A. and Iris June Evans Poole; he was 66 years old. He was a 1969 graduate of Jena High School and attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches and LSUS in Shreveport. He worked in construction and the oilfield. His job carried him to the Gulf of Alaska and off the coast of California. Per Mike’s request, his body was sent for cremation. There was a memorial service to honor his life at Kinner and Steven’s Funeral Home on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Johnnie Phillips, officiating. Eulogy was presented by Jason Evans. Visitation with family and friends was observed at the funeral home immediately after the service. Disposition of his ashes will be at the river he loved so much. Those in heaven waiting to welcome Michael home are his father and his uncle, Larry Evans. Although he and Pam Cassels Poole of Tioga, his wife of 29 years, were divorced, they remained very close and she continues to be an important part of his family. He is also survived by his mother, June Evans Poole of Jena; two sons, Dexter and his wife Darla of the Belah Community, and Evan and his wife Ashley of Pineville; two daughters, Sherri and her husband Trey Drewitt of Jena and Stacy and her husband Jimmy Huson, of Bentley; one sister, Sherry and her husband Anthony Ortiz of Jena; a special uncle who was more like a brother to him, Dexter Evans and his wife Donna; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He also left behind many friends. Those especially close to Mike and who helped look after him in his final days are Leona Paul, Dennis Bradford, Grayson Walpole, Lamar Coon, and Quinin Coleman. The family request any memorial be made to the cancer charity of your choice or your local little league baseball program.
