Ethel Jane Buchanan, 97, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at her residence in Jena.
She was born July 22, 1920 in Eudora, Arkansas to the union of her parents, William Barnes and Ethel Anderson Gaffney Sansing.
Mrs. Buchanan was a resident of Jena for seventeen years, and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and her children and her church were her life. A southern lady, she loved to dress up and look nice. She will be remembered as a humble and nice lady.
Services were held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 26, at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Keene officiating.
Interment followed in the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Greensville, Mississippi, under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.
She was preceded in death by her husband, F.L. “Buck” Buchanan, Jr.; her parents; and son-in-law, Don Day.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, William Frank Buchanan of Jena, and John Alexander Buchanan and wife Diana of Pearl, MS; daughters, Elizabeth Buchanan Welch and husband Rodney of Ruston, and Mary Jane Buchanan Day of Jena; brothers, David Sansing of Oxford, MS, and Bob Sansing of Lebanon, TN; sister, Margaret Waits of Lafayette; sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Wilkerson of Greenville, MS; eight grandchildren, Jay, Alisha, Jeff, Adam, Andy, Anna, Matt, Mark, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jay Welch, Jeff Welch, Mark Buchanan, Billy Masters, Matt Buchanan, Adam Day, and Andy Day.
