Jay Puckett, 53, of Olla, passed from this life on Monday, July 15, 2013, in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was born December 20, 1959 in Winnfield, to the union of his parents, James Willard Puckett, Sr. and Sue Bruce Puckett. Jay was a consultant for Operatic Oil Company in Johannesburg, South Africa. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 27, at the First Baptist Church in Olla with the Revs. “Bo” Prather and Johnnie Phillips officiating. Interment followed in the Georgetown Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Jeanie McBroom Puckett of Olla; two daughters, Jordan Puckett and Jessie Puckett, both of Olla; a sister, Cyndy Puckett Riser of Stonewall; and a granddaughter, Bailey Grace Puckett. Pallbearers were Robert Carroll, Lloyd Gough, Willis “Scooter” Lee, Glen Henderson, Herman McCarty, Keith Newsom, Derek Riser, and Rick Smotherman.
