Aida Morphis, of Jena, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, in the LaSalle Nursing Home of Jena, at age of 87 years, 8 months, and 28 days. She was born December 23, 1928 in Galveston, Texas, to the family of Venancio and Mercedas Torrabla Gonzalez. Mrs. Aida was a member of the Justiss Memorial United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary-treasurer for 35 years. She was employed parttime at Justiss Oil Company in the 1950’s, and worked for 42½-years as a steno-bookkeeper for Jena Auto Company in Jena. Mrs. Aida served with the LaSalle General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary since 2001, and also sang with a group called Women of Faith in 2003. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 23, at Justiss Memorial United Methodist Church in Trout with the Revs. Reid Terry and Amanda Carpenter officiating. Interment followed in the Hawthorne Cemetery in Little Creek under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Jack Morphis; and a grandson, Charlie Bill Stapleton. Survivors include one daughter, Linda Morphis Stapleton of Belah; a sister, Angie Cortez of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren, Jack Stapleton, Curt Stapleton, and Susie Pritchard; and nine great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Gary Jack Stapleton, Mac Stapleton, Will Stapleton, Curt Stapleton, Dub Stapleton and Charlie Pritchard. Honorary pallbearers were James F. Justiss, Jr., W. B. McCartney, Sr. and Reggie Loe.
