Rev. Ray Jones

Rev. Ray Jones, 89, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Friday, September 23, 2016. He was born January 27, 1927 to the union of his parents, Jessie L. and Florence L. Jones. Rev. Jones, a member of Sandy Lake Pentecostal Church, and World War II Navy veteran, was also an ordained minister/evangelist and preached in many churches in the area. A skilled carpenter he was owner of Jones Construction Co. and built many houses in the surrounding communities. A kind hard working, Christian man that truly loved his wife and family set an example for all to follow. Services were held at 11 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 25, at Sandy Lake Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Joel Ford and Bryan Taylor officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Manifest under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and two sisters, and one daughter-in-law Jean Jones. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Velma “Aunt Dobber” Jones of Jonesville; one son, Rev. Sherman Jones and wife Susie of Columbia; four daughters, Sheila Book and husband Ronnie, Barbara McCarver and husband Gordon, Julia Breithaupt and husband David and Jean Sikes and husband Doyle, all of Jonesville; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren and numerous neices and nephews. Pallbearers were Ronnie Book, Jr., Daniel Manning, Wesley McCarver, Curt Jones, Jarrette Gomez, and Steven Sikes. Honorary pallbearers were Davey Breithaupt, Will Manning, Kenneth Ford, David Breithaupt, Gordon McCarver, Doyle Sikes, Ronnie Book, Sr., Douglas Gomez and Douglas Ford.
