Johnny Neal, 77, of the Belah Community, passed from this life on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. He was born June 1, 1941 in Old River, LA. Services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Revs. Ron Nations, Jeff Sandifer, and Zack Wells officiating. Interment will follow in the Pritchard Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Neal; his mother, Peggy Rosier; brother, Butch Neal; and sister, Ethlyn Richey. Those left to cherish in his memory include his wife of 54 years, Christine Hudspeth Neal of Belah; son, Kenneth Neal of Trout; daughter, Connie West and husband Scott of Addis, LA; sister, Nona Farmer of Belah; two grandchildren, Cody Smith, and Calee Smith; three great grandchildren, Thatcher Smith, Edith Smith, and Grayson Dauzart.

Donald James Mason

Donald James Mason, 70, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at his residence. He was born May 16, 1948 in Newburg, Missouri. Don served his country in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971. He was a sergeant in the combat security police during the time of the Pueblo Crisis in Korea and Vietnam. He was retired from CenturyLink. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Miller Cemetery in Nebo, with the Revs. Brandon Poole and Gary Norris officiating. Interment followed with full military honors under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Mason and Wilma Louise Stogsdill Mason King and a sister, Bonnie Heath. Those left to cherish in his memory include his wife, Patsy Hudnall Mason; son, James Thomas Mason and wife Jennifer; granddaughter, Jessey Mikayla Mason; sister, Joanne Pemberton and husband David; and family friend Sarah Davis. Pallbearers were Carl Smith, Jesse Davis, Jeffrey Robison, Dustin Keene, Doug Holman, and Kevin Paul, with Dennis Warwick serving as honorary pallbearer.

Jerry Warren Lloyd, 62, of Trout, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in Shreveport following a brief illness. He was born March 14, 1956 in Jena to the union of his parents, Rev. Walter and Dixie Lloyd. Jerry was a bright spirited soul and was loved by everyone who knew him. He enjoyed hog hunting, deer hunting and duck hunting with his father. He was an avid horse rider and loved to read as well. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Brandon Poole and Mickey Hudnall officiating. Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Greg Lloyd; and a brother-in-law, Ed McClure. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss are his wife, Brenda Lloyd of Jena; one daughter, Katie Elliott and husband Aaron of Shreveport; one son, Jacob Lloyd of Bentonville, AR; one sister, Susie Lloyd of Jena; three grandchildren, Gabriel, Moses, and Elijah Elliott and a host of nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, and his mother and father-in-law. Pallbearers were Bard Lambeth, Barry Rainey, Bear Pritchard, Dennis DeVille, Rocky Ray, and Toby Peppers, with David Hudnall serving as a honorary pallbearer.

Kathryn “Kathy” Nugent Roberts

Kathryn “Kathy” Nugent Roberts, 64, of Winnfield, passed from this life on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at her home. She was born April 4, 1954 in Urania to the union of her parents, Gerald and Aline Nugent. She was the oldest of five children. Kathy was a retired registered nurse, who spent her career working for Hardtner Medical Center in Urania and for twelve years at Rapides Home Health, where she not only provided care for her patients but genuinely cared for them as well. First and foremost, she was a wife and mother who loved her family. To her family and friends, she was simply “Kathy”. Kathy grew up in Urania and was a 1972 graduate of LaSalle High School and received her degree in Nursing from LSU at Alexandria in 1982. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26, in the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla. Interment followed in the Urania Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Mike Roberts of Winnfield; her sons, Kurt Boyd of San Diego, CA, Kyle Boyd and Andrew Roberts and his wife Terri, all of Winnfield; her daughters, Andrea Roberts and Chelsea Roberts; three grandchildren, Sadie, Sarah, and Owen Roberts; her sister, Carol Kidd of Pearland, TX; brothers, Jerry Nugent of Alexandria, Paul Nugent of Monroe, and Matt Nugent of Urania.

Jessie Claudette Harper Palmer

Jessie Claudette Harper Palmer, 82, of Grayson, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe following an extended illness. She was born February 27, 1936 at Kelly to the union of her parents, Jessie C. Harper and Laura Belle Prestridge Harper. She was a member of the Rosefield Baptist Church and loved to cook for her family. She loved to work in her yard and always grew beautiful flowers. She was loved by all and will be sorely missed. Claudette was a humble, hardworking woman. She put her children before herself always. She instilled in them a strong work ethic by example and was very proud of every one of them. She was a blessing to her family and will be greatly missed. Nothing made her happier than all of her children to be together with her. She worked many years in the dietary department of Haven Nursing Center. She took lots of pride in providing good meals for the residents and employees. Graveside services were held at 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Chickasaw Cemetery, east of Olla, with Rev. Patrick Willis officiating. Interment was under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Palmer; her son, Mike Franklin; and her parents. Survivors include two sons, Clark Franklin and wife Rhonda and James Palmer and wife Melissa, all of Grayson; four daughters, Debbie Garza and husband Jessie of Monterey, Mexico, Donna Benson and husband Randy of Grayson, Cindy Nappier and husband Tarod of Grayson and Lorrie Campbell and husband Eddie of Douglasville, GA; her special granddaughter, Niki Palmer; eight grandchildren, Kade Benson, Allen Nappier, April Palmer, Adam Palmer, Jessica Garza, Erica Garza, Jessie Garza, Jr. and Debbie Garza; and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were James Palmer, Clark Franklin, Randy Benson, Jesse Garza, Adam Palmer and Allen Nappier. Honorary pallbearers include Chris McKee and Tyler McKee.

David Evan Johnson

David Evan Johnson, 78, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Maurice. He was born August 17, 1940 in Jennings to his parents, Derward Dennis Johnson and Vera Mae Todd Johnson. After serving his country in the U.S. Navy, David went to Zoller Technical School and was employed by Avendale Shipyard in Lake Charles as a journeyman machinist. It was there where he met the love of his life, his wife Sue Jackson. They were married and moved to Lafayette where he attended the University of Lafayette, graduating from there with a 4-year degree in industrial engineering. He then worked at the ammunition plant in Minden. He later moved to Catahoula Parish and taught school at Sicily Island High School. He then moved to Jena and worked for Dresser Industries in Tioga, ending up teaching school at Caldwell High School and Jena High School, where he taught industrial arts and math. After retiring from teaching, David worked at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola as a security guard. David and his wife were members of Good Pine Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Heard Cemetery near Manifest with the Revs. Brandon Poole and Rod Jackson officiating. Interment followed under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Jackson Johnson and his parents. Those left to cherish in his memory include his sons, David Chris Johnson and wife Tina of Natchitoches, and John Johnson and wife Alida of Youngsville; and five grandchildren, Lisa, Sarah, Matthew, Daniel, and Caleb.

Lawrence Campbell, 71, of Harrisonburg, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Columns Nursing Home in Jonesville.
He was born Wednesday, July 16, 1947 in Natchez, MS to the union of his parents, James Robert and Emma Cupit Campbell.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 4, at Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville with Rev. Jerry Holland officiating.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert Lynn Campbell.
Survivors include one son, Brent Campbell and wife Holly of Jena; one daughter, Melinda Graham and husband Lige Graham, Jr. of Jena; his sister, Betty Campbell Dawkins and husband Imon of Vidalia; four grandsons, Dakota Graham, Cade Graham, Chaz Graham, and Garrett Campbell; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Campbell; and two great grandsons, Jacob Carlton and Gunner Graham.

Ollye Jean James, 64, of Georgetown, passed from this life on Monday, October 29, 2018, at the Jena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jena.
She was born January 15, 1954 in Winnfield.
Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Johnny Barnhill officiating.
Interment followed in the Lincecum Cemetery in Georgetown under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dixie “Bo” Lincecum; mother, Lois Lincecum; husband, John Wayne James; three brothers, Laney Lincecum, Norman Lincecum and Herschel Lincecum.
Those left to cherish in her memory include her son, John Dwayne “Bubba” James of Alexandria; daughter, DeLois “Dede” James of Jena; three grandchildren, Koby Dwayne Arrington, Felicity Elaine Campbell, and Christian John Cockerham; brother, Micheal Lincecum of Tullos; and sister, Darlene Lofton of Urania.
Pallbearers were Chris Cockerham, Dewayne Cockerham, Micheal Lincecum, Peck Nugent, Sherman Cockerham, and Mark Lincecum.

Lewis Franklin “Frank” Martin, Jr., 60, of Houston, Texas, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, in Shenandoah, Texas, surrounded by his family.
He was born September 14, 1958 in Winnfield to the union of his parents, Frank and Lenora Martin.
Frank attended school in Lake Charles, Houston, TX and Jena, where he graduated from Jena High School. He attended Louisiana Tech University and graduated with a BS in Computer Engineering.
He was a resident of Houston, TX and employed with Harris County.
Frank is survived by his wife, Tammy Godeaux Martin; his daughters, Alicia Martin of Jena, Melissa Hoover and husband Phillip of Baton Rouge, and Ashley Martin of Alexandria; his mother, Lenora Martin of Jena; his brother, Michael Martin of Pineville; and three grandchildren, Nathan and Nicole D’Angelo and Amelia Pilcher.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis F. Martin, Sr.
A private family memorial will be held in his honor.

Dudley L. Foster, 87, of Georgetown, passed from this life on Friday, November 2, 2018, at his residence.
He was born on Wednesday, August 19, 1931 to the union of his parents, Edward Dan and Bertha Pace Foster.
Mr. Foster was a member of Beulah Baptist Church and retired in 1995 from International Paper (Pineville Kraft) with 26 years. He served in the U. S. Army from August 1948 to June 1952 rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class. He is a Korean Conflict veteran. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 4, at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery near Georgetown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Harold E. Foster.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years (married May 29, 1970), Beth Bruce Foster of Georgetown; five daughters, Donna Jeffcoat, Cindy Roberts, Pamela Bruce (Mike), Kim Sweat (Johnny) and Amy Terral (Scott); brother, Max R. Foster; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bailey Terral, Ethan Terral, Scott Terral, Mike Bruce, Johnny Sweat, and Keith Griffith.

Oscar Fred Hooter, Jr., 65, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed from this life on Thursday, November 8, 2018 while at work offshore on Enterprise Rig 264. He was born October 18, 1953 in Jena to the union of Oscar Fred Hooter, Sr. and Anna Ruth Baldridge Hooter. He was raised in the Summerville community. Hooter was a man of super human strength and a humble heart of gold. To know him was to love him. He taught everyone how to work hard, be humble, and be kind to one another. He was unselfish in every thing he did. In the end, he went out with his boots on doing what he loved best. He enjoyed a career in the oilfield for more than 43 years. If you could put a monetary value on a man’s life based on the amount of people he influenced in a positive way, then Hooter would have been the richest man ever known. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Shady Grove United Pentecostal Church of Nebo with Revs. Curtis Thornton and Jesse Henderson officiating, with Joe Hooter and Jim Zeagler speaking. Interment will follow at the Summerville Baptist Church Cemetery at Summerville under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his father; two sisters, Chasta Hooter and Debra Hooter; and a great niece, Everly McDowell. Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Belen Hooter of Corpus Christi, TX; his mother, Anna Hooter of Summerville; five brothers, Ed Hooter (Kim) of Summerville, Andy Hooter (LaTonya) of Pollock, Clifford Hooter (Jackie) of Jena, Joe Hooter (Donniel) of Monroe, and Matt Hooter (Marie) of Arkansas; two sisters, Lora Bradford (Johnny) of Jena and Martha Bouillion (Joe) of Alexandria; 17 nieces and nephews, Chad Hooter, Mandy Knudsen, Melissa Cooper, Jake Hooter, Jessie McDowell, Michael Hooter, Kyle Hooter, Ben Bouillion, John Bouillion, Anna Lee Willis, Magan McNeill, Samuel Bradford, Grace Hooter, Lauryn Hooter, Abigail Mondragon, Mikayla Mondragon, and Adan Mondragon; and 12 great nieces and nephews. He was born June 1, 1966 in Jena to the union of his parents, Samuel Ausmus and Gloria Jean Price Gulde. Leon was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and the Eden Fellowship Fire Department. He was a pumper for Sanchez Oil. He was also a contract welder for Gulde Welding. Services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 8, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Carl Gulde and Gary Norris officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Chessie Price, and Starling and Lola Gulde. Ellis Daniel Walker Campbell, Sr., 77, of Trout, departed this life on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. He was born August 24, 1941 in Trout to the late Link Campbell and Dorothy Walker. Ellis was a hard worker and was employed by Trout Lumber Mill, Denton Lumber Company, Tullos Lumber Company, Louisiana-Pacific, Justiss Oil Co., Belden Wire and Cable, and Mr. and Mrs. James Justiss, Jr. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend to many. Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at Trout Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Rev. Jamerson Jackson, officiating. Interment followed in the Webster Cemetery of Good Pine under direction of Gayden Funeral Home of Jena. He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife, Celestine Campbell; three sons, Perry Beard (Angela), Ellis Campbell, Jr. (Colita), and Nicholas Campbell, Sr. (Elaine); two daughters, Jennifer Campbell Saul and Diane Beard; four brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-laws, 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Dustin Allen Bailey, 35, of Tullos, passed from this life on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at Our Lady of the Lakes Medical Center in Baton Rouge.

He was born August 26, 1983 to the union of Gary Bailey and Doreatha Woodruff Woodard. Dustin loved bream fishing and he was a huge sports fan. He also loved to storm watch. Memorial services will be held at a later time. He was preceded in death by his brother, Trent Lisenby.

He is survived by his father, Gary Bailey and wife Brenda; mother, Doreatha Woodard and husband Leroy; brothers, Matthew Bailey, Corey Bailey, Patrick Bailey, and Dusty Miller; nephews, Korbyn Bailey and Landin Bailey; niece, Peyton Willett; and grandmother, Linda Weaver.

Donald R. Redfearn, 66, of Ball and formerly of Georgetown, passed from this life on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

He was born July 16, 1952 and grew up in Georgetown.

No matter what name you knew him by – Donald, JD, Bernie, Daddy, or Papaw – you always knew he had a joke to give or a sarcastic comment to make. If you wasn’t laughing with him, you were certainly laughing at him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Rose Maxwell and step-father, Wilmer Armstrong; his father, Herbert Lloyd Redfearn; two sisters, Ann Parker and Sydney Cruse; and two brothers, Lloyd “Boy” Redfearn and Clark Redfearn.

Survivors include two sons, Derek Redfearn and Lance Redfearn (Silence); daughter, Carley Lindsey (Sam); brothers, Timmy Armstrong and Hunter Armstrong (Karen); sister, Jane Armstrong; grandchildren, Peyton Evans, Beau Lindsey, Layla Redfearn, Jayden, Shianne and Markie Redfearn, and Hannah and Peyton Lindsey.

Cremation with a private service planned.

Pamela “Pam” Kelley, 56, of Jena, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria.

She was born August 15, 1962 in Many.

Pam was an amazing mother and, even more, an amazing grandmother. Her world revolved around her family. Her passion was nursing in which allowed her to touch an endless amount of lives. Sugar coating was not her way of doing things; “it is what it is” was what she lived by. She was in the nursing field since 1996, her most recent place of employment was at St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Brother J. D. Frazier officiating.

Interment followed in the Nebo Cemetery un- 29, 1993.

Alan attended Anacoco Junior High School and was a member of the track team where he attained a gold medal in long-jump. Alan went on to graduate from Leesville High School in Leesville, as part of the Class of 2011.

He attended Louisiana State University for three years and later transferred to Northwestern State University to attain his bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Management. After he graduated, he used his degree in order to pursue his career in managing diversified businesses under Glenn Williams and Associates Incorporated.

Alan enjoyed life, he loved to flip, ride jet skis, skate with his brother, and exercise.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with the Revs. Durhl Davis and Gary Norris officiating.

Interment will follow in Belah Cemetery in the Belah Community under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and grandmother, Jesse Clifford and Jolene Cooper Thompson; and grandfather, Claude Warren Price; and maternal Uncle Tommy Warren Price.

He is survived by his parents, Oscar Alan and Teresa Price Thompson; his brother, Jesse Thompson; and maternal grandmother Jewell Taylor Price.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Trey Dowden, Jamal Harrell, Kace Hollingsworth, Robert Kerr, Dustin Nash, Dennis Stein, and Jay Slaydon.

Honorary pallbearers are Belal Alammar, Brian Brown, Danny Price, Johnny Rollins, Brandon Seaman, Jesse Thompson, and Glenn Williams.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Carter; mother, Mary Evelyn Hailey; brother, Jeffrey Carter; and sister, Jackie Huffman.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons, Thomas Kelley and wife Megan of Deville, and Duane M. Kelley Jr.; daughter, Tiffany Hammock and husband Delmarkus of Jena; brother Harvey Carter of Caney Lake; sister, Karen Johnston of Jena; four grandchildren, Korie Lyn Hammock, John Harper Kelley, Levi Carter Hammock and Thomas Dayton Kelley.

Pallbearers were Joey Constance, Justin Parker, Anthony Huffman, Case Johnston, Ryan Basco, and Charlie Joy.

Honorary pallbearers were Thomas Dayton Kelley, Levi Carter Hammock, and John Harper Kelley.

During this holiday season where blessings abound, remember the good things and focus on them. So the next time something bad happens look at all of the good things you have to be thankful for and you may realize that we are all better off than we think.

Lynn Ralph Loftus, 53, of Olla, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at his residence in Olla following a sudden illness.

He was born on July 12, 1965 at New Brunswick, New Jersey to the union of his parents, Andrew Vousden Loftus, III and Zelda Ray Chamberlin Loftus.

Lynn was a master painter and nothing in life came close to the love that he had for his Lord Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of nineteen years, Marilyn Miles Loftus of Olla; his mother, Zelda C. Loftus of Keatchie, LA; his brother, John Spano and wife Kari of Post Falls, ID; three sisters, Sandra Loftus Hickok and husband Michael of Snyder, TX, Veronick Shuman and husband Scott of Manhatten MT, and Pamela Politte and husband Brian of Poplar Bluff, MO; his special friends and brothers in the Lord, Alan Koloc of Shreveport and Eric Keesler of Grayson; and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.

In accordance with Mr. Loftus wishes, his body will be used for medical science research.

Oscar Alan Thompson, II, 25, of Selma, Texas, entered eternal rest on Friday, November 16, 2018 at University Hospital in the arms of his loving family. Known as Alan to his loved ones, he was a member of Anacoco First Baptist Church and a Northwestern State University Alumni Member. He was born in Alexandria, LA on January 29, 1993.
