Leona Madelene Rogers, 97, of Jena, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 20, 2014. She was born August 10, 1917 in Deanville, Texas, to the union of her parents, William F. and Emma Louise Sheide Frieda. Ms. Leona was a resident at LaSalle Nursing Home from January 25, 2000, until the time of her death. She was involved in most activities there, consisting of bingo, Bible study, and physical exercise for the residents, and kept the roll. While at the nursing home, she was a member of the “Red Hat Society” and won numerous awards including Valentine’s Day Queen. Leona was the resident council president for several years and instrumental in improving the facility for all the residents there during that time. She was an avid reader and loved storm tracking. But most important to her was being a Christian, which she had been since age 6. She died as she lived, a Christian. Graveside services were held on Sunday, December 21, 2014, in the Belah Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. Mrs. Rogers made many friends at LaSalle Nursing Home where she lived. A special friend was Sally Allen, who helped take care of her in her latter years.
