Betty Lou Nelson

Betty Lou Nelson, 82, of Jena, was received into Heaven on Wednesday, June 4, 2014. She was born on Monday, February 1, 1932 in Bunkie, to the union of John Jefferson and Nettie Lee Harrell Herrin. Mrs. Nelson was a retired English teacher at Jena High School. She was also author of three books in a young adult mystery series – “Secret in the Old Trunk”, “Mystery of the Vanishing Trees”, and “Mystery of the Stone Lady”. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 6, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with Rev. Dominick DiCarlo officiating. Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery near Jena under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Audrey Reeves. Survivors include her husband of 54½-years, Dave Nelson of Jena; four daughters, Cindy Iles-Nelson of Los Angeles, CA, Susan Sandoval of Jacksonville, FL, Louise Kadkhodai of Shreveport, and Jo Ann Nelson of Monterey Hills, CA; two sisters, Johnnie May of Diamondhead, MS, and Peggy Vancil of Gilroy, CA; seven grandchildren, Danielle Nelson, Ian Nelson, Kimberly Boyd, Amy Jo Blake, Aaron Kadkhodai, Shirene Boyd, and Cameron Kadkhodai; and two great grandchildren, Brody Boyd and Beaux Kadkhodai. Pallbearers were Vince Blake, Aaron Kadkhodai, Cameron Kadkhodai, Bob Killingsworth, Leon Mitchell, and Gary Sandoval
