James Robert Stewart, 71, of Urania, passed from this life on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the Hardtner Medical Center in Urania following a brief illness. He was born March 9, 1943 at Ferriday to the union of his parents, Mr. Opal Marie Stewart and Mrs. Era Urnia Richardson. Mr. Stewart proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and was a highly decorated soldier, including receiving the Medal of Honor. His love for his country was evidenced in all he gave during his military career. He served both in the United States Army and the National Guard. James worked as a crane operator and for many years, he owned and operated Stewart’s Television and Electronics, located in Georgetown. Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, March 30, in the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Mason Reo Sanders. Survivors include his wife, Dot Martin Stewart of Urania; his sons, Todd Stewart of Houma, and Steven Wall of Clarks; his daughters, Crystal Sanders of Georgetown and Sandra Matthews and husband Terry of Greenwood; his brothers, Marvin Stewart and wife Suzette of Burleson, TX, and M. C. Richardson of Urania; his sisters, Arvenell Holland and husband Luther of Venus, TX, Marie Gouch and husband Larry of Streetman, TX, and Carolyn Lupton
and husband Robert of Willow Park, TX; his beloved grandchildren, Michael Lyons, Dusty Lyons, Amber Lyons, J. T. Lofton, Luki Lofton, Morgan Sanders, Piper Stewart, Lillie Stewart, and Starla Stewart; and his great grandchildren, Angela Lyons and Nathan Love.
