Sammie Jean Cox, 73, of Tullos, passed from this life on Sunday, March 9, 2014. She was born Tuesday, September 10, 1940 in Sikes to the union of her parents, Joseph Egbert and Myra Ola Johnson Adams. Mrs. Cox was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church where she served as pianist for over 50 years. Services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, at Crossroads Baptist Church with the Revs. Bruce Weatherford and Denver McBroom officiating. Interment will follow in the Beech Creek Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Homes, Inc. of Winnfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Herbert Adams and Richard Dolan Adams; and sisters, Vaudeen Vickers, Rosalie Neal and Ola Vee Adams. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Wesley R. Cox of Tullos; two sons, Randy Cox and wife Teresa and Kenneth Cox, all of Tullos; daughter, Rita Maxwell and husband Mark of Winnfield; grandchildren, Seth Cox, Daniel Cox, Jesse Cox, Jake Cox, Josh Cox, Eric Maxwell, Kimberly Maxwell, Philip Worsham, Haley Worsham and Casey Toups; nine great grandchildren; and three brothers, Hubert Adams, Chester Adams and Hollis Adams. Pallbearers will be Eric Maxwell, Seth Cox, Phillip Worsham, Jesse Cox, Jake Cox, Josh Cox, and Chuck Maxwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Sweat, Bobby Hutto, and Chad McCartney.
