
Rachael Virginia “Ginger” Pullig Breithaupt, 72, of Whitehall, passed from this life on Friday, December 18, 2020, at her home in Whitehall.
She was born June 1, 1948 in Ruston to the union of her parents, Richard Murphy “Jack” Pullig, M.D. and Rachael Jones Pullig.
Ginger graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, LA in 1966 and LSU in 1971 where she was a member of the first graduating class of the LSU School of Environmental Design, which became the current LSU College of Art and Design.
She studied art in Rome, Italy as part of Louisiana Tech’s summer program and later lighting design at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design summer program. Throughout her career, she served as a principal owner of several interior design firms, practicing as a registered interior designer in Louisiana and Tennessee. She was an active member of the American Society of Interior Design her entire professional career of over 45 years.
Ginger was a recipient of numerous interior design awards including the AIA Award for Excellence for Interior Design for Landers Plaza in Nashville; the AIA Rose Design Award for Excellence for buildings exhibiting excellence in both architectural and interior design; and the ASID 30-year Service Award.
Locally, her grant writing involvement in civic revitalization of downtown Jena and Harrisonburg has brought millions of grant dollars into spaces for local citizens to enjoy such as 3rd Street Plaza and the walking trail system in Jena.
She joyfully participated in worship at Nolley Memorial United Methodist Church in Jena. Her passion for her community, her friends, and her family was evident in every aspect of her life.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 27, at the Breithaupt-Mosely House property at 150 Daisy Hill Lane, Jena, with Rev. Matt Dearman officiating.
Friends may pay their respects beginning at 1 p.m. until service time. Social distancing and masking will be observed for the outdoor service and visitation.
Services will be under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Breithaupt; her stepson, Walter Evan Breithaupt; daughter-in-law, Katy Fiddick Breithaupt; and grandson, Elijah Holmes Breithaupt. Ginger is also survived by her sisters, Mary Pullig Schatz, M.D. of Nashville, TN, and Beth Pullig Hitt of Baton Rouge; her nieces and nephews in Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Minnesota, as well as her great nieces and nephews.
Honoring Ginger as pallbearers will be Lyle Hitt, Mason Hitt, Tucker Hitt, Matt Dearman, Paul Farris, and Mark Kemp.
Honorary pallbearers will be Elijah Holmes Breithaupt, Bo McCartney, Larry Chapman, Warren Record, Art Record, Robert Record, and Emerson Williams.
The family requests memorial monetary gifts be sent to Nolley Memorial United Methodist Church or the LADD (LaSalle Association for the Developmentally Delayed, Inc.) Center.
