
Oliver Gene “O.G.” Bell, 86, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, January 9, 2014, following an extended illness. He was born August 28, 1927 in Homer to the union of his parents, Walter and Laura Bell. O.G. was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a sergeant during World War II. He was retired from Hunt Petroleum and enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 12, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Mac Walker, Ronnie Tarver and Jimmy Keene officiating. Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery east of Jena under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ada Bradford, Jimmie Lee Tullos, Loyce Futtrell, Sadie Poole and Vinnie Sheppard; and brothers, Bill Bell, Willard Bell, Rayford Bell, and Raymond Bell. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Doris Bignar Bell of Jena; two sons, Irvin Gene Bell and wife Lori, and Marlon Glen Bell, all of Jena; granddaughter, Mallori Bell; grandson,
Peyton Bell; one brother, Beverly Bell and wife Jeanette of Jena; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers were Ricky Shirley, Will Shirley, Alfred Maceirras, Shaun Deville, Danny Lincecum, and Lane Windham.
Honorary pallbearers were Glenn Taylor, Cleveland Poole, Billy Davis, Red Hailey, J. W. Thomas, Jessie Davis, Winnie Terral, Melvin Purvis, Donald Cooper, and Hunt employees
