Georgia Hailey Jones

Georgia Lee Hailey Jones, 88, of Jena, entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 8, 2020, at the LaSalle Nursing Home of Jena.

She was born July 22, 1931 in Jena to the union of her parents, Ike Earl Hailey and Bennie Mae Johnson Hailey.

Georgia was a lifelong member of Shady Grove Pentecostal Church. At times as a young child she, her siblings, and parents walked to church with her grandparents Isaac Wesley Hailey and Nancy Belle Bradford Hailey, who were among some of the first families to establish Shady Grove Pentecostal Church. She became a Christian at the age of 12. As teenagers she and her sister Ikie were members of the first female quartet at the church. She was said to have a beautiful alto voice.

Georgia graduated from Jena High School in 1949. She then attended the Alexandria Business College completing the Executive Course and received her diploma in 1950. She was employed by the LaSalle Parish Clerk of Courts office, filling in for a brief time for her sister Ikie.

She married Richard Jones, who served in the U.S. Armed Forces, on June 16, 1951 and began to travel with her husband. During his time in the service she earned extra money by sewing badges and insignias onto uniforms for soldiers. She loved gardening, quilting, embroidering, and ceramics. While her husband was in the service they were stationed in Arizona, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and overseas in Germany. While in Germany they were also able to tour Austria and see many beautiful and interesting sites there.

She was a charter member of the Catahoula Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a friend. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a prayer warrior, always thinking of others and lifting them up in prayers. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, March 11, at Shady Grove United Pentecostal Church of Nebo with Rev. Curtis Thornton officiating.

Interment will follow in the Hailey Cemetery, south of Jena, under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Jones; her son, David Lamar Jones, Sr.; her parents; sisters, Cora Belle Hailey and Beth May; nephews, Jeff Walker and Charles Aaron Hailey.
