Melvin Ashley, 68, of Olla, and formerly of Berwick, passed from this life on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe. He was born November 6, 1944 in Centerville, to the union of his parents, Steven Persilver Ashley and Ella Sauce Ashley. Melvin was employed as a boat Captain and attended Oasis Full Gospel Church. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25, in the Shady Grove Cemetery of Sikes with Pastor Betsy Honeycutt officiating. Interment followed under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia/Olla. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Geraldine Crochet Ashley of Olla; one son, Darren Ashley and wife Tammy of Morgan City; one daughter, Melissa Ashley Eubanks and husband Larry of Olla; a sister, Regina Hamilton and husband Kenneth of Bayou Louis; four grandchildren, Joshua Ashley and wife Katie, Daniel Eubanks, Emily Eubanks Emfinger and husband Casey, and Kaylin Ashley Richard and husband Lucas; two great grandchildren, Blaze Ashley and Gunner Luke Emfinger; and two special friends, Justin Cavallier and Sidney Concieno. Pallbearers were Darren Ashley, Larry Eubanks, Daniel Eubanks, Joshua Ashley, Lucas Richard, and Casey Emfinger.
