Robert Lee “Bud” Coleman, 74, of Baton Rouge, and formerly of Jena passed from this life on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at his residence. He was born Friday, August 20, 1943, in Seattle, Washington, to the union of Henry Coleman and Fannie Melton Coleman. Bud, as he was called, was a U.S. Naval Veteran, serving as a First Lieutenant from 1965-68. He completed the FBI Academy in 1968 and served as a special FBI agent for the next two years. He held degrees from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, where he received a math education degree in 1965 and an administration and supervision degree in 1972. He later received his plus-30 degree at NLU. After serving as math teacher at Jena High School from 1969-71, he was named assistant principal and served for the next two years before becoming principal in 1974. Bud served as assistant superintendent from 1979 until 1986, when he became Superintendent of LaSalle Parish Schools. It was under his leadership that the new kindergarten wing at Jena Elementary School was constructed and the old Trout-Good Pine Kindergarten School was closed with students moving into the new facility. In the mid-1990’s, Bud was named as Superintendent of the Washington Parish School System, where he served until he retired. Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with Judy Laird and Pastor Mike Mann officiating. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery in Olla under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly Gregory Coleman and his parents. Surviving include a son, Robert Ken Coleman and wife Cherry of Baton Rouge; daughters, Robin Suzanne Caldwell and husband Shane of Orlando, FL and Leah Nichole Lentz and husband Jon of Natchitoches; brothers, James Coleman and wife Margaret of Olla and John Coleman and wife Brenda of New Mexico
