John T. Gilmore

John Thomas Gilmore, 85, of Lake Charles, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

John served in the United States Navy for four years right after graduation from High School. He served on the U.S.S. Princeton during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge he made his home in Lake Charles, where he married his wife of 62 years, Velma Breaux Gilmore.

He retired from Citgo after 41 years of dedicated employment. John enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was a member of University Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking for church events.

Services were held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, in the chapel of Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles.

Interment followed in the Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles under direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby Gilmore and Aline Frank Gilmore; and a sister, Sybil Schmutz.

John is survived by his loving wife; sons, Charles Gilmore and wife Aimee, and John T. Gilmore, II and wife Kay, all of Moss Bluff, LA; daughter, Connie Sossamon and husband Terry of Lake Charles; ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Shelby Gene Gilmore and wife Polly of Lake Charles, Albert Hugh Gilmore and wife Maude Ann of Plano, TX.

The family would like to have memorial donations be made to the University Methodist Church of Lake Charles, LA.
