
Leroy Cahoon, 92, of Jena, passed from this life on Friday, September 30, 2016, at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. He was born September 4, 1924, in Lake City, Arkansas to the union of his parents, George Washington and Ida Mae Waldon Cahoon. Mr. Cahoon was a self-employed farmer and served his country in the United States Navy. Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 3, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Byron Norris officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc., of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verona Meeks Cahoon; daughter, Kaye Henry; and grandson, Dennis Anthony “Tony” Edwards. Survivors include his sons, Elton Cahoon and wife Deborah of Jena, and Delton Cahoon and wife Brenda of Black Oak, Arkansas; daughter, Pat Cahoon of Jena; brother, Charles Cahoon of Marian, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Brian Dupuis, Leann Cahoon Smith and husband Danny, Michelle Cahoon, Kerry Lynn Edwards Barrett and husband John Allen, Sherrie Cahoon Ingram, Scott Cahoon, Mac Henry and wife Meagan, and Rebekah Cahoon Renz and husband Timmy; 23 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Brian Dupuis, Tony Dupuis, Mac Henry, Bradley Barrett, Joel Smith, and Daren Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Scott Cahoon, Timmy Renz, Danny Smith, and George Nobles.
