Alfonzy “Al” Ellis

Alfonzy “Al” Ellis, 75, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Plantation Oaks Nursing Home in Wisner. Alfonzy was well known to sport fans throughout the area as he attended and rooted for the Block Bears and other teams. He had many friends in this area. Services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Wallace Ridge Pentecostal Church of Jonesville with the Revs. Jack Knapp, Bruce Lofton, Paul Perry and Lance Torrey officiating. Interment will follow at the Evangeline Baptist Cemetery at Wildsville under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest C. Ellis; mother, Mary “Mae” Ellis; brothers, Leon E. Ellis, Chester L. Ellis, Lendon C. Ellis, Earnest “Gene” Ellis and E.L. “Lawrence” Ellis; and sisters, Ida Lee Wiley, Helen E Fontenot and Betty Nell Champlin. Survivors include his sisters, Adell Paul and Joan Jones, both of Jonesville, and Katie Harris of Monterey; special niece, Gladys Wiley of Wildsville; and nephew, Ed ard D. Ellis of Port Barre; 44 nieces and nephews; and a host of great nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Edward D. Ellis, Buddy Dupuis, Sydney Harris, Ronnie Fontenot, Jeffrey Rachuba, Paul Wiltz, Christian Disotell and Chris Huffman. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernie Reeves, Coach Dale Brown, Coach Danny Broussard, Coach Benny Vault, Shelby Trisler, Butch Simms and the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.
